Coming from a difficult past where he was raised by his single mother working hard to provide for him, Mason excels at magic despite having limited access to resources. His charismatic nature helps him make quick friends among his peers.
Six young souls have been chosen to become the future sorcerers of the Night Spirit Six Seals.
Among them, I am one of the chosen few.
Right now, I'm sitting at my desk in class, not paying attention to the teacher's lecture.
Instead, I'm thinking about the strange dream I had last night.
In that dream, I saw six different colored seals hovering in front of me.
Then I heard a voice saying, "Kaitlyn, you are chosen to become a sorcerer of the Night Spirit Six Seals."
After waking up from that dream, I went to look at myself in the mirror.
Indeed, I saw six different colored marks on my forehead.
I couldn't believe what was happening!
Not long after that, I received a letter from an organization called "The Night Spirit Six Seals."
It turns out that this organization is responsible for selecting young individuals to become sorcerers.
They have sent me a book containing magic spells and exercises to practice at home.
I am so excited to learn magic!
However, life isn't going smoothly for me right now.
My parents just got divorced and I had to move in with my dad and his new wife and son.
Adjusting to this new family dynamic is quite challenging for me.
I hope I can fit in soon and find some friends who understand me.
After class ends, I sneak into the empty art room.
I clutch the spellbook to my chest and make my way to a corner where no one can see me.
The tall windows let in plenty of sunlight, casting a warm glow over the room.
I settle down cross-legged on the floor behind a row of easels.
My hands tremble slightly as I open the leather-bound book to the first chapter: "Basic Light Manipulation."
The instructions seem simple enough - hold out your palm and visualize a small orb of light forming above it.
I extend my right hand and close my eyes, concentrating hard.
A tingling sensation spreads from my marked forehead down to my fingertips.
"Hey, Kaitlyn," a voice whispers from behind an easel, startling me.
I whip around to see Jake, my stepbrother, peering at me with wide eyes.
"Did you know that when you concentrate like that, your mark glows?"
He stares at my glowing marks, his eyes wide with wonder.
I frantically try to dim the light emanating from my hands.
"What are you doing here?" he asks, stepping closer and blocking the only exit from the art room.
My fingers tremble as I shut the spellbook and slide it behind a nearby canvas.
Jake's gaze follows the movement.
"What's happening to you?" he asks, reaching out a hand toward my forehead.
I duck away, knocking over an easel in the process.
Paint tubes clatter across the floor.
Before I can make a run for it, Jake grabs my wrist, his grip tighter than I expect.
"Let me see it again," he demands, tugging me closer.
I twist my arm free, but he quickly corners me against the supply cabinet.
Trapped, I frantically recall the words of a memory-altering spell from my book.
Jake advances, his fingers inches from my forehead.
I struggle to remember the exact words.
My marks pulse with warmth as I concentrate.
"Tell me what's going on," Jake demands, his voice low and urgent.
"Those lights... they're not normal."
My hands tremble as I try to recall the incantation.
The ancient language feels clumsy on my tongue.
I whisper the first syllables, feeling the familiar tingle of magic coursing through me.
Jake's eyes begin to glaze over, his grip on my wrist loosening slightly.
I continue the incantation, watching his expression shift from suspicion to confusion.
As I finish the spell, Jake stumbles backward with glazed eyes.
I steady my breathing and watch him blink a few times, confusion etched on his face.
"What am I doing here?" he mutters to himself before turning and wandering out of the room.
My legs feel shaky as I lean against the supply cabinet.
I've just cast my first real spell.
The weight of my body against the cabinet causes a metallic click behind me.
I turn around to investigate and notice a thin crack appearing in the wooden panel of the supply cabinet.
When I press it, a small compartment slides open with a creak.
Inside lies a leather-bound book, its cover adorned with intricate symbols that shimmer in the sunlight.
