Allen
He is a human working as a writer for a magazine. He is ambitious, persistent, and perceptive. Allen struggles financially but manages to rent an apartment in the city. His curiosity about Ella grows after their initial encounter, where he discovers her hidden side. Despite the challenges of a relationship with a siren, he becomes deeply drawn to Ella. His ambition leads him to his job, where he works tirelessly to make a name for himself in the journalism field.
I am a siren.
I can’t stop thinking about him.
I was drawn to the sound of his voice first.
It’s been three days since I met him, and I still can’t get out of my mind the way he looked at me.
Like he wanted something from me, but didn’t know what.
I want him to want me.
I want him to take me.
But that can never happen.
I can’t let him know what I am.
My time on land is limited, and I know this already, but I don’t want to leave yet.
I don’t want to go back to the sea until I see him again.
The sound of the doorknob turning makes me panic.
I hear his voice murmuring something as he knocks on the door.
"Ella? Are you in here?"
My legs!
They’re gone!
No!
Not now!
Please!
I search for myself on the floor frantically, feeling around with my hands as if I could grab my legs and pull them out of me just by touching where they should be.
But they’re gone, and I’m stuck like this, half siren, half nothing, until I can get into the water.
"Oh shit!"
I hear a muffled curse from the other side of the door before it opens just a crack.
"Ella? Did you fall—oh my god!"
My heart pounds as his shocked face appears in the doorway.
I drag myself across the wet tiles, my tail scraping against the floor with a sound that makes me wince.
The bathroom light catches on my scales, throwing rainbow reflections onto the walls.
Allen stands frozen, his hand still on the doorknob, mouth hanging open.
He’s too stunned to scream.
I use my arms to pull myself forward, muscles straining against the slick surface.
The bathtub is only three feet away, but it feels like miles.
Water drips from my hair, leaving a trail behind me.
"Ella, what... what are you?" Allen stammers, eyes wide with disbelief.
"I'm a siren," I confess, my voice trembling but resolute, "and I need your help to get back to the water."
He hesitates, glancing between me and the bathtub, then nods slowly, determination replacing his shock.
His footsteps echo on the tile as he approaches me, his gaze fixed on my shimmering tail.
I grip the edge of the tub, my fingers straining against the porcelain as I try to pull myself up.
The scales along my sides catch the light, casting rainbow reflections onto his face.
He crouches down beside me, his hand reaching out to grab my waist.
I tense at his touch, but he doesn't flinch away.
Instead, he lifts me with a strength that surprises me, and I slide into the water with a splash.
My tail curls beneath the surface, and I sigh in relief as it stretches out fully.
Allen sits on the floor next to the tub, his eyes still wide with wonder.
"So... you're a siren," he says slowly, as if trying to process what he's just seen.
I nod, tucking a strand of wet hair behind my ear.
"From where?"
"The sea," I answer simply.
"How long have you been here?"
"Three days."
He frowns slightly.
"You can't stay on land for long?"
"No," I admit, "I can only survive for a few more hours before I have to go back."
