I live in the mountains, about an hours drive from the closest city.
No one lives near me, except my neighbor, and he lives about a two minute drive away.
He's the only person that lives near me.
But no one knows my name, except for my neighbor.
They know me as Mrs. Thompson, the elderly lady that lives in the mountains.
None of them have any idea that I'm actually only 19 years old.
They all think that I'm at least in my sixties.
But what they don't know is that I'm actually a shapeshifter.
I can turn into anything that I want to turn into.
The only thing that I can't do, is turn into a male.
I'm female, so turning into a male was never an option for me.
The reason that I turned myself into an old lady was so that no one would suspect a thing.
Years ago, some men were looking all over for me, so that they could use me to commit crimes and do all kinds of bad things.
So I just turned myself into an old lady, so no one would suspect a thing.
So when my neighbor came over one day to introduce himself, I had already turned myself into the old lady.
So he doesn't know the real me, and neither does any one else that has seen me since then.
But I do have another form that I use sometimes, when I want to go to college with my neighbor Mark.
The Shapeshifter Next Door
My other form is my true form.
I'm a teenage girl with blonde hair and blue eyes.
But when I'm with Mark, I change my hair color to brown and my eye color to green.
So he thinks that the old lady that lives in the mountains is his friend Emma, and that the teenage girl that goes to college with him is Mia.
He has no idea that they are the same person.
But I've been able to keep it up for a while now, so I don't think that he will ever find out.
I was walking down the mountain one day, when I slipped on some ice and fell.
I tried to get up, but I couldn't.
I had a concussion, a broken ankle, and a bruised rib.
I was lying there for a while, when I heard someone coming up the mountain.
I looked up, and it was Mark.
He came over to me and picked me up, carrying me back down the mountain. "Mia? Are you okay?"
The Shapeshifter Next Door
Mark asked as he carried me into the house.
I tried to open my eyes, but they wouldn't stay open.
The concussion was making it hard for me to focus on anything.
"I'm fine," I said weakly.
Mark set me down on the couch, then sat down next to me.
"Let me take a look at you," he said as he lifted my shirt up and examined my rib area.
It was bruised badly, but it wasn't broken or anything.
Then he moved down to my ankle and examined it.
It was swollen badly, and I could tell that it was broken just by looking at it.
Mark sighed as he sat back in his chair.
"I can't find Emma," he said as he looked at me confused.
I knew what he meant; he couldn't find my old lady form.
But I didn't want him to know that we were the same person, so I didn't say anything about it. "You need to go to the hospital," Mark said as he stood up from his chair and walked over to the phone.
"No," I said quickly as I grabbed his arm and pulled myself up into a sitting position.
He looked at me like I was crazy; maybe I was a little bit at that moment because of all of the pain that I was in.
"I just need some rest. That's all," I said as I lay back down on the couch and closed my eyes tightly so that they would stop spinning around in circles.
The Shapeshifter Next Door
Mark dialed the phone and waited for someone to answer.
He looked over at me, his eyes scanning my face.
"Emma's not here," I said in my old lady voice.
I was leaning against the doorframe, trying to keep myself up.
I was still in my teenage form, but I was trying to keep my old lady form up so Mark wouldn't get suspicious.
Mark furrowed his brow as he walked over to me.
"You don't look well, Mrs. Thompson," he said as he reached out to steady me.
I smiled weakly and waved him off.
"Just a little tired," I said softly.
Mark hesitated, glancing between the phone and me.
"Why do you sound like Emma?" he asked, suspicion creeping into his voice.
I took a deep breath, knowing the moment I'd feared had finally arrived.
