I am Raszire, the Shadow Walker.
I can manipulate shadows to do my bidding, and I can use them to walk through them, allowing me to travel great distances in a matter of seconds.
I can create portals and step through them, emerging from the shadows at my destination.
I can also use shadows to create weapons, defend myself, or even bind my enemies.
Shadows are my allies, and with them, I am almost invincible.
Almost.
My past is shrouded in mystery, even to myself.
I do not know how I came to possess this power.
All I know is that I have been a Shadow Walker for as long as I can remember.
I have kept it hidden, even from my wife, who died years ago.
After her death, I became reclusive, keeping to myself and hiding my true nature from the rest of the world.
But there is one person who knows me for what I truly am: my wife’s sister.
She possesses powers of her own, though she does not know the extent of them.
Even I do not fully understand them.
All I know is that she can communicate with me over vast distances, and even sense when I am in danger.
And there is something more... something that I dare not acknowledge.
The Shadow Walker's Unwanted Bride
In my private training chamber, I test my latest creation - a curved blade formed from pure darkness.
It feels different from my usual shadow constructs, more substantial yet somehow lighter.
I shift my stance, moving through familiar combat forms as the blade whispers through the air.
Each swing reveals new properties: the edge reshapes itself slightly with my thoughts, adjusting to my grip.
Sweat beads on my forehead as I maintain the blade's cohesion.
The Shadow Walker's Unwanted Bride
A sudden flash of awareness - Nadira's presence - breaks my concentration.
The weapon wavers, threatening to dissolve.
I close my eyes, drawing slow breaths to center myself.
The shadow blade trembles in my grip, its edges blurring like smoke.
Opening my eyes, I focus on a training dummy across the chamber, its wooden frame scarred from previous sessions.
Step by step, I move through the basic forms, each motion deliberate and measured.
The blade gradually stabilizes, its edge sharpening with my concentration.
The Shadow Walker's Unwanted Bride
When I execute a diagonal slash, the shadow weapon cuts cleanly through the dummy's shoulder, leaving a precise dark line in the wood.
"Raszire, you must listen," Nadira's voice echoes in my mind, urgent and insistent.
"What is it, Nadira?" I reply, steadying the blade as best I can.
"I've seen a vision of your past—there's someone who knows the truth about your powers."
I freeze mid-stance as a dark silhouette materializes from the chamber's deepest corner.
My shadow blade trembles, responding to my startled state.
The figure steps forward, tall and imposing, wrapped in darkness that seems to shift like living shadows.
Their movements are fluid, almost like ink flowing through water.
They gesture at my wavering weapon, and I feel a subtle pull in the shadows, as if they're trying to show me how to better shape them.
The Shadow Walker's Unwanted Bride
Despite Nadira's lingering presence in my thoughts, I find myself lowering my guard, drawn to this stranger's masterful control over the same powers I've struggled with for so long.
"Who are you?" I demand, trying to mask the uncertainty in my voice.
"I am the one who can unlock the secrets of your past," the figure replies, their voice a deep, resonant whisper.
Nadira's voice cuts through my mind again, sharper this time, "Raszire, be careful—this could change everything."
