Lena forms a bond with Aiden as she tries to guide him through his transformation. Her interactions with Aiden reveal her empathy and dedication to helping him find his path.
I was created to be the savior of humanity, but I have the nature of a monster.
Is it possible to change one’s nature?
Or is it just an illusion that we can be something else?
I am Aiden Blackwood.
The first specimen to be genetically engineered in a lab.
Created through a top-secret government project to save humanity from extinction.
They made me to be their savior… but I am a monster.
Something inside me wants to break free and destroy everything in its path.
It’s a war that I have to wage every single day.
And something tells me that I am running out of time…
"Aiden, can you hear me?"
I nodded and kept my eyes closed as I tried to focus on the voice of the woman.
"Yes, I can hear you. Who are you? Where am I?"
There was silence for a few moments before she spoke again.
"My name is Lena Hart. You are in a laboratory. We did some tests on you and found out some things that we think you should know."
"What kind of tests?"
I asked her, my mind racing with possibilities.
A few days ago, I woke up in a cell without any memory of who I was or why I was there.
I had tried to find a way out of it, but there was none.
Then, a man in a white lab coat came and took me out of the cell.
I was put on a medical bed and they ran tests on me.
I could hear the footsteps of the woman approaching me from my left side.
The smell of antiseptic filled my nostrils as I waited for her to speak.
She placed a hand on my arm and I flinched away, my muscles tensing as I prepared to strike back.
But then I realized that she was just trying to touch me, not attack me.
I took a deep breath and relaxed, letting her touch my arm.
Her breathing quickened slightly, and I wondered if she had been afraid of me.
I heard her step back, putting some distance between us.
I opened my eyes slowly, taking in the bright fluorescent lights above me.
The room was painted white, with metal tables and cabinets lining the walls.
There were other people in the room, dressed in white lab coats, watching me with interest.
I looked at the woman who had spoken to me earlier, her dark brown hair pulled back into a ponytail and her eyes fixed on me. She held a tablet in her hands, her knuckles white from gripping it so tightly.
"Aiden, we found out that you are not like other humans," she said softly, her voice trembling slightly as she spoke to me.
"What do you mean?"
I asked her, trying to keep my voice calm.
She swallowed hard before continuing.
"You were created in a lab. You are the first specimen of a new species. The scientists who created you want to know if you will be able to live outside of this lab. If you can live among other humans."
"What do they mean by that?"
I asked her, feeling confused by what she was saying.
"They want to see if you can live outside of this lab. If you can interact with other humans without hurting them," she explained softly.
"What makes them think I might hurt someone?"
I asked her, feeling frustrated by what she was saying. "Because of your genes," she said softly, looking down at the tablet in her hands.
"Your genes make you different from other humans. You have more strength and agility than them. You heal faster than them too. But you also have anger issues. You get angry easily and it takes time for you to calm down."
"I don't know what you're talking about," I said stubbornly, not wanting to accept what she was telling me.
But deep down, I knew that she was right.
I could feel the anger inside me, waiting to be unleashed.
I could feel it simmering below the surface, waiting to explode.
But I had been working on controlling it.
I had been practicing calming myself down when I felt the anger rising inside me.
I didn't want to hurt anyone.
I just wanted to be able to live a normal life.
The woman in front of me looked sad as she spoke to me.
"I'm sorry, Aiden. I wish we could have told you sooner. But we needed to make sure that you were ready to hear the truth."
I nodded, feeling a lump form in my throat.
I didn't know what to say.
I was still trying to process everything she had told me.
The fluorescent lights above flickered, causing the room to brighten and dim rapidly.
The sound of them humming filled my ears, making my head ache slightly.
I rubbed my temples gently, trying to ease the pain.
The woman in front of me looked worried as she watched me rub my temples.
"Aiden, are you okay? Do you need anything?"
I shook my head no, not wanting her to worry about me.
I was fine.
Just a little headache from the lights above me. The lights in the room were very bright and they made my eyes hurt slightly.
The fluorescent lights above flickered again, causing the room to brighten and dim rapidly.

I shook my head no, not wanting her to worry about me.

The lights in the room were very bright and they made my eyes hurt slightly.
It was hard for me to get used to them because I wasn't used to being awake during the day like this.
The lights in the room were so bright that they made my eyes hurt slightly.
It was hard for me to get used to them because I wasn't used to being awake during the day like this. I looked around the room, trying to distract myself from the pain in my head caused by the lights above me.
The walls were painted white and there were metal tables and cabinets lining them.
There were other people in the room, dressed in white lab coats, watching me with interest as I sat on the medical bed in front of them.
The fluorescent lights above me continued to aggravate my headache as they started flickering more intensely.
I gripped the edge of the medical bed, my knuckles turning white as I tried to keep myself from getting angry.
The scientists in the room started whispering to each other, their voices becoming more agitated as they watched me.
Lena took a step closer to me, placing a hand on my shoulder.
I could feel her touch through the thin material of my shirt and it caused a shiver to run down my spine.
Suddenly, the lights surged blindingly bright before plunging the lab into total darkness.
The room erupted into chaos as people shouted out in surprise and stumbled around in the darkness.
My enhanced vision kicked in quickly, allowing me to see the lab clearly despite the lack of light.
I rose from the medical bed, my muscles coiled with tension.
The scientists in the room were stumbling around blindly, bumping into each other and into the medical equipment.
Their panicked breathing and racing heartbeats echoed in my ears.
Dr. Reed's voice rang out above the chaos, shouting orders to his team as he fumbled for the flashlight on his phone.
I spotted Lena reaching out for me in the darkness, her hand passing through the empty air where I had been sitting a moment before.
My bare feet touched the cold floor of the lab as I wove between the confused humans, expertly avoiding their outstretched arms and scattered equipment.
The emergency exit sign glowed red in front of me, drawing me toward the double doors that led out of the lab.
I sprinted down the empty hallway, my bare feet slapping against the cold linoleum floor.
The emergency lights flickered above me, casting an eerie red glow over the white walls.
It made it appear as though the walls were covered in blood.
I could hear Dr. Reed shouting orders behind me, his voice echoing off of the sterile walls of the facility.
The sound of boots rushing from multiple directions echoed behind me, punctuated by the radio chatter of security teams converging on my location.
The security gate at the end of the hallway started to lower, its metal bars descending mechanically with a loud clang.
I accelerated, pushing my engineered muscles to their limit as I raced toward the rapidly closing gate.
I dove under the gate just as it slammed shut, leaving chaos behind me.
I crouched in the dark alley, my ears perked up as I listened for any sign of pursuit.
The distant sound of sirens echoed through the air, growing fainter with every passing moment.
The pavement beneath my bare feet stung from the rough texture and the force of my landing.
My thin medical gown did little to shield me from the chill of the night air.
The darkness seemed to swallow me whole, making me invisible as I waited.
After a few moments of silence, a shadow detached itself from the darkness near the entrance of the alleyway.
It stood tall, its features obscured by a hood that cast a dark shadow over its face.
The streetlights nearby barely illuminated it, leaving me to rely on my acute senses to discern its outline.
The figure spoke in a low whisper that carried on the wind to reach my sensitive ears. "You made it out."
I tensed at its words, ready to run again if necessary.
Something about its stance struck me as non-threatening, though.
It didn't move closer or make any sudden movements that might trigger a fight-or-flight response in me.
Instead, it stood calmly at the end of the alley, its gaze fixed on me as if waiting for my next move.
I narrowed my eyes at it, studying its outline intently as I tried to discern more details about this mysterious figure.
As I focused harder, I noticed that it held something in its hands—a bundle of cloth that looked like clothing and what appeared to be a pair of shoes.
I kept my distance, my muscles coiled in preparation to run if necessary.
The bundle it held looked to be dark in color, perhaps a pair of jeans and a hoodie.
The shoes looked sturdy, possibly boots of some kind, though I couldn't make out more than that at this distance.
My bare feet stung from the rough pavement and the cold night air made my thin medical gown feel like nothing more than a flimsy piece of tissue.
The figure didn't move, its arm extended toward me with the bundle of clothing.
It remained perfectly still, watching me with an unblinking gaze as it waited for me to make the next move.
I crept forward cautiously, scanning the alleyway for any signs of an ambush or trap.
The distant wail of sirens drew closer, pushing me to act quickly.
"Take these," the figure said, its voice calm and steady, "they'll help you blend in."
I hesitated for a moment before asking, "Why are you helping me?"
The figure tilted its head slightly, a hint of a smile in its voice as it replied, "Because you're not the only one who wants to see Dr. Reed's plans fail."
I snatched the bundle of clothes from its outstretched hand and ducked behind a nearby dumpster to change quickly.
The rough fabric of the jeans scraped against my skin as I pulled them on, followed by a dark shirt and heavy boots that felt sturdy beneath my feet.
The hooded figure didn't move, watching me from the end of the alley as I changed.
Its presence was unnerving, but I didn't have time to dwell on it.
The sirens grew louder, echoing off of the brick walls of the surrounding buildings as they drew closer.
The hooded figure melted into the shadows, disappearing from view as it vanished into the darkness.
I crouched lower behind the dumpster, holding my breath as a beam of light swept across the alleyway.
The sirens passed by, leaving only silence and the promise of rebellion in their wake.
I pulled the hood over my head and stepped out onto the crowded sidewalk, my new boots clicking against the concrete.
People brushed past me, their faces a blur as they hurried to and from work.
The neon signs overhead cast a colorful glow across the street, illuminating the bustling scene.
Cars honked in the distance, adding to the cacophony of sounds that filled the air.
The city was alive, and I was just another face in the crowd.
I scanned the faces around me, searching for any sign of Dr. Reed's location.
But there was nothing, just a sea of unfamiliar faces passing by.
I continued down the street, my senses on high alert as I scanned every storefront and building for any sign of where Dr. Reed might be hiding.
The neon signs overhead seemed to flicker and dance in my vision, casting a colorful glow across everything around me.
The city was a place of endless possibility, where anything could happen at any moment. I walked for what felt like hours, my boots carrying me through unfamiliar streets as I searched for any sign of Dr. Reed.
The city seemed to stretch on forever, its towering skyscrapers reaching up towards the sky like giants.
Every step I took led me deeper into its heart, further away from the safety of the alleyway where I had first emerged.
But I couldn't turn back now, not when I had come so far.
I had to keep moving forward, no matter how daunting it seemed.
As I walked, my senses grew more acute.
I could hear every conversation around me, every footstep echoing off of the buildings.
The city was alive with sound, and I was just one small part of it.
The neon signs overhead seemed to pulse with energy, casting a colorful glow across everything around me. The streetlights cast long shadows across the ground, stretching out like dark fingers towards the horizon.
I walked through them cautiously, avoiding any place that might hide danger.
My senses were on high alert as I navigated this unfamiliar world, but I refused to let fear take hold.
I had come too far to turn back now.
Suddenly, a digital billboard caught my eye.
It stood tall over the street, its bright screen flashing images at a rapid pace.
But it was one image in particular that made my heart stop - Dr. Reed's face staring back at me from the screen.
"Press conference," it read below his image.
"Tomorrow Corp headquarters."
I turned away from the billboard, determination burning in my chest as I vanished into the crowd.
I weaved through the crowded sidewalk, my head down as I avoided eye contact with the people rushing past.
The neon signs overhead cast a colorful glow across everything around me, but I didn't stop to look.
The Tomorrow Corp building loomed in the distance, its glass facade reflecting the setting sun.
I could see the crowd of reporters gathered outside, their cameras and microphones at the ready.
Dr. Reed's voice echoed from within, speaking about some new scientific breakthrough that would change the world forever.
I slowed my pace as I approached the entrance, my heart pounding in my chest.
The sidewalk was crowded with people rushing to and from work, but I kept my eyes fixed on the building ahead.
Suddenly, a deafening boom shattered the evening calm.
The ground beneath my feet seemed to shake as a massive explosion tore through the street.
Chunks of concrete and debris rained down from above, sending people screaming and scattering in all directions. A cloud of black smoke billowed into the air, blocking out most of the light from the setting sun.
I ducked for cover behind a nearby dumpster, shielding my head from the falling debris.
The blast had been massive, sending shockwaves through every cell in my body.
But even as I cowered for safety, I couldn't shake the feeling that this was no accident.
I peeked around the dumpster's edge, surveying the chaos that had erupted around me.
The street was now a scene of complete pandemonium, with people running wildly in all directions.
Sirens wailed in the distance, drawing closer by the second.
But then, through the smoke and chaos, I saw him - a hooded figure ducking into an alleyway just a few blocks down from where I stood.
They were holding something in their hand that looked like a detonator. My instincts screamed at me to follow them, to uncover their true identity and motives behind this attack.
Without hesitation, I sprinted off after them, leaving the chaos of the explosion behind.
The city streets blurred around me as I ran, my heart pounding in my chest with anticipation.
Who was this mysterious figure?
And what drove them to commit such destruction?
