I was a rookie cop.
My name was Ethan, and I had just transferred to this city from another one.
I was standing outside the police department, taking deep breaths to try and calm my nerves.
I was feeling anxious and apprehensive about what the future held.
I tried to focus on the present moment, taking slow, deliberate breaths as I stared up at the building in front of me.
It was tall and imposing, with large windows and a large parking lot.
I could see several police cars driving in and out of the lot, and people walking in and out of the building.
It looked busy, but I was determined to do my part to help out.
I took one final deep breath, then walked towards the front door of the building.
I pushed through the door and found myself in a large lobby.
There was a large desk in front of me, with a police officer sitting behind it.
"Can I help you?" she asked, looking up at me.
"Yes," I replied, my voice slightly shaking.
"I'm here to transfer to the police department."
She looked at me curiously, then nodded.
"Okay. Let me just check a few things. Can you please show me your identification?"
I pulled out my wallet and handed it over.
She flipped it open, then glanced through it quickly.
"Okay, everything looks good. I'll just need you to fill out a few forms."
She handed me a pen and a clipboard.
