When I was fourteen, I found out I made a deal with the devil.
It was my birthday, and my mom gave me a weird look.
I asked her what was wrong with her, but she said it was nothing.
Later that day, I turned off the TV and heard my parents whispering in the living room.
They thought I didn't know they were talking about me, but I actually did.
I crept closer to the living room and heard them mention the word "devil."
My eyes widened in shock as I realized what they were talking about.
They explained to each other how at my birth, they made a deal with the devil for me to be strong.
It made sense because I was able to lift heavy objects since I was little.
I also ran faster than everyone else and could even stop a car with my bare hands.
It was all because of the deal they made with the devil.
But they also mentioned another child who made a similar deal, and at that moment, it hit me that there was someone out there like me.
The next day, I saw a commercial on TV about a new game show called "Reverse."
The host explained that it was a show where two contestants would swap lives for a month.
The Reverse Game
I sit at my desk, filling out the online application form for "Reverse" with trembling fingers.
Each question seems designed to expose my supernatural strength - sports activities, physical achievements, special talents.
I list them all, hoping they'll catch the producer's attention.
My parents hover behind me, unusually encouraging despite their usual protectiveness.
Mom points at specific questions, suggesting answers that highlight my abilities.
When I hit submit, my phone buzzes immediately with a text.
It's an invitation to audition tomorrow at the downtown studio.
The message ends with a curious detail - I'll be paired with another pre-selected contestant.
"Do you think it's the other kid?" I ask, glancing up at my parents.
Dad nods slowly, his voice barely above a whisper, "There's a good chance it is."
The Reverse Game
Mom adds, her eyes filled with a mix of hope and fear, "This could be your only chance to find out who they are and what this all really means."
I walk into the dimly lit studio lobby, following a production assistant who keeps glancing at her clipboard.
The walls are covered with oversized posters of past reality show winners, their faces stretched into manufactured smiles.
At the end of a long hallway, she opens a door to a small waiting room with uncomfortable plastic chairs.
That's when I see her - Olivia Chen, the teen model whose face is plastered across every fashion magazine in town.
She's sitting alone, wearing a designer outfit that probably costs more than my entire wardrobe.
The Reverse Game
Our eyes meet, and I notice a flicker of recognition in hers.
My footsteps echo across the waiting room's tiled floor as I walk toward her.
She straightens in her leather chair, smoothing her silk dress.
The fluorescent lights above highlight her perfect features - the ones I'll soon have to imitate.
"I'm Ethan," I say, extending my hand.
My palm feels sweaty, but I maintain eye contact.
The Reverse Game
She hesitates for a moment, glancing at my outstretched hand before taking it.
Her grip is delicate, yet I sense an underlying strength in her fingers.
The contact sends a strange tingling sensation up my arm, like static electricity.
A production assistant hurries in, clipboard raised, interrupting our handshake.
