I was born in New York, America, before the apocalypse.
I am 16 years old, turning 17 soon.
I have dark skin and black braided cornrows hair.
I am muscular and tall.
When I was 14 years old, I got infected with the disease.
After a week of suffering, either you die or get superpowers.
Luckily, I got superpowers.
My powers are super strength, heat vision, super speed, durability, flight, fast regenerative healing factor, super hearing, and enhanced vocal cords.
I can also withstand extreme temperatures and sustain disastrous attacks.
No weapon has been identified that can injure me.
My father's power is mind control.
He can move objects or influence physical systems with the power of his mind without any physical contact or other external forces.
My mother's power is flying.
My older sister Munira can shape shift into any animal she wants to.
My older brother Mahad's power is weather modification.
He can change the weather to whatever he likes.
He can make it rain or sunny depending on his mood.
The police are trying to take away our freedom and treat us like prisoners just because most people in this country have superpowers now.
If we talk back or resist or fight them, they will punish us because they think we are dangerous and might use our powers against them.
They are scared of us because they don't have powers like us.
In the hallways of my Manhattan high school, you could feel the tension in the air.
The superpowered and non-powered students were always at odds with each other.
In the school cafeteria, I sat alone at a table eating my lunch.
I could hear Troy, James, Tyler, and Max talking about the party they went to last night.
They were talking about the girls they hooked up with and how drunk they got.
They were also talking about the people they bullied at the party.
I clenched my fists under the table.
I wanted to use my heat vision on them, but I remembered what my parents told me about controlling my powers.
I stood up slowly and walked over to their table.
They didn't notice me approaching until I was right in front of them.
They looked up at me with smirks on their faces.
"What do you want, Mohamed?" one of them asked.
"I just wanted to remind you that there are consequences for your actions," I said, leaning in close to them.
They looked at each other nervously before looking back at me.
"What are you going to do about it?" one of them asked.
"Are you threatening us?" one of them asked, trying to sound brave.
I leaned in even closer, my voice low and menacing.
"I'm not threatening you. I'm just stating a fact. You see, I could k#l all of you right now if I wanted to. And there's nothing you could do to stop me."
They shifted uncomfortably in their seats, realizing that I was serious.
"You see, no human can stop me from killing you. I can burn you with my heat vision before you even have a chance to react. And if you try to run away, I can fly after you and catch you in no time."
Their faces paled as they realized the truth in my words.
"And it's not just the four of you that I could kill. I could destroy this entire city in under two hours if I wanted to."
I stared down at Troy, Tyler, James, and Max.
"If you four ever bully or make fun of any other student in this school, you'll w#h you were d#d when I'm done with you," I said, my voice cold and deliberate.
Their faces turned pale, their eyes wide with fear.
I turned away from them and walked back to my table.
I could see them exchanging nervous glances out of the corner of my eye.
They sat there frozen in place for a few moments before getting up and leaving the cafeteria.
As they walked away, I couldn't help but smile to myself.
They knew that I was serious about what I had said, and they knew that I had the power to back up my words.
As I sat back down, Munira slid into the seat across from me, her eyes narrowed.
"You know you can't keep doing that, right?" she said, her voice a mix of concern and frustration.
I shrugged, trying to play it cool. "They needed a reminder," I replied, but even I could hear the uncertainty in my voice.
Munira's hand brushed mine as she leaned closer, her voice soft but firm.
"You know I worry about you, right?"
Her eyes searched mine, and I looked away, unable to hold her gaze.
We were sitting in the school courtyard, surrounded by the remnants of a world we barely recognized anymore.
The once-manicured lawn was now overgrown, and the sound of distant sirens filled the air.
Munira continued, her words cutting through the tension.
"You're not just putting yourself in danger. You're putting all of us at risk. If you keep acting out like this, it could bring attention to our family. And that's not something we can afford right now."
I clenched my fists under the table, feeling the familiar heat of my powers simmering just beneath the surface.
I knew she was right, but it was hard to control myself when I saw people being treated unfairly.
As we left the cafeteria, Mahad joined us.
We sat down at a table with some other superpowered students.
We were eating our lunch when I noticed Troy, Tyler, James, and Max staring at us from across the room.
Their faces were twisted in a mixture of anger and fear.
I knew they were still shaken from my earlier threat, but it didn't stop them from glaring at us.
I looked over at Munira and saw that she had noticed them too.
She was trying to ignore them, but I could tell she was getting annoyed.
Mahad seemed oblivious to the tension, but I knew he could sense it too.
He was just better at hiding it than Munira and I were.
"Can you please stop threatening those boys?"
Mahad asked me as we continued eating our lunch.
"They are just bullies," I replied, my voice low and even.
"But they're not worth it," Mahad said, his eyes locked on mine.
"You know what Mom and Dad would say if they found out."
"I don't care," I said, my voice rising slightly.
"They deserve it. They've been bullying people for years."
"And you think threatening them is going to stop them?" "It's better than nothing," I said, my voice filled with frustration.
Mahad sighed and looked away for a moment before turning back to me.
"I understand why you're upset, but this isn't the way to handle it. We have to be smart about how we use our powers."
"I am being smart," I said, my voice firm.
"I'm using my powers to protect people who can't defend themselves."
Mahad shook his head and stood up from the table.
"I can't sit here and listen to this," he said, his voice filled with frustration.
"I'm going to go find someone else to hang out with."
With that, he stormed off, leaving Munira and me alone at the table.
I watched him go, feeling a mix of anger and disappointment.
I knew he was right, but it was hard to control my temper when I saw people being treated unfairly.
As I sat there, I noticed Troy and his friends whispering to each other and pointing their phones in our direction.
I stood up and walked over to them.
"What are you doing?"
I asked, my voice low and menacing.
Troy stepped forward, a smirk on his face.
"We were just taking some pictures," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
I clenched my fists and took a step closer to him.
"Delete those pictures now," I said, my voice firm.
Troy laughed and pushed me in the chest.
"You can't do anything to us," he said, his eyes filled with contempt.
I felt a surge of anger run through me and I used my super strength to throw him through the wall.
He crashed into the lockers on the other side of the hall, causing them to fall to the ground.
The other students gasped in shock and fear as Troy struggled to get up from the floor. Tyler, James, and Max backed away from me, their eyes wide with terror.
They knew that they were no match for me and my powers.
Troy slowly got up from the floor, his face twisted in pain and anger.
He looked at me with a mixture of fear and hatred in his eyes.
"You're going to pay for that," he said, his voice shaking with rage.
I just stared at him, my eyes cold and unyielding.
"If you four ever bully or make fun of any other student in this school again, I'll use my heat vision on you," I said, my voice firm and commanding.
The four boys looked at each other nervously before nodding their heads in agreement.
I left the cafeteria and continued down the hall, still chuckling to myself.
As I walked, I saw the school nurse, Claire, coming towards me.
She was followed by Troy, who was limping along behind her.
His friends James, Tyler, and Max were walking behind them, whispering to each other nervously.
I slowed down my pace and watched them as they passed me.
Claire glanced over at me with a look of fear and disapproval in her eyes, but she didn't say anything.
Troy looked over at me too, his eyes filled with pain and hatred.
He winced with each step he took, his hand clutching his side.
I smirked at him as he passed me by.
But as I turned the corner, I realized that this was just the beginning of a battle I wasn't sure I could win.
I walked into our Queens apartment with Munira and Mahad.
The tension from school was still thick in the air, and I could feel the weight of my parents' expectations bearing down on me.
As soon as we stepped inside, Munira began telling them about the incident in the cafeteria.
Her voice was filled with concern, and I could see the worry etched on her face.
Mahad stood silently, his arms crossed over his chest, his eyes fixed on me with a mixture of disapproval and disappointment.
My dad's face hardened as he listened to Munira's story, his eyes narrowing as he turned to look at me.
My mom's expression was one of worry and confusion, her brow furrowed with concern.
I could feel their eyes on me, waiting for me to explain myself.
I took a deep breath and tried to justify my actions, to make them understand why I had done what I did.
"They deserved it," I said, my voice steady but laced with emotion.
"They've been bullying people for years, and no one has ever done anything about it. They needed to be taught a lesson."
My dad's eyes narrowed even further, his jaw clenched in anger.
"And you think threatening them was the right thing to do?"
He asked, his voice low and dangerous.
"I wasn't just threatening them," I replied, my voice rising in frustration.
"I was protecting people who can't defend themselves. They needed to know that there are consequences for their actions." My dad sighed heavily, his shoulders sagging under the weight of his own frustration.
He looked at me for a long moment before speaking again.
"I understand why you did what you did," he said slowly.
"But you have to be careful. You can't let your emotions get the best of you. You have to think before you act."
I nodded reluctantly, knowing that he was right.
But it was hard not to let my emotions take over when I saw people being treated unfairly.
As we continued talking, I noticed that Munira and Mahad were exchanging nervous glances.
They knew that my dad was upset, and they were worried about how he would react.
But I knew that he would never hurt us physically; he loved us too much for that.
Still, I couldn't shake the feeling of unease that settled in my stomach as we spoke.
After a while, we decided to sit down and have dinner together.
The tension in the room was still palpable, but we tried our best to act normal.
We passed plates of grilled chicken and vegetables around the table, each of us serving ourselves before passing the plate to the next person.
Munira and Mahad continued to exchange worried glances, but they said nothing.
My mom tried to lighten the mood by talking about her day at work, but even her usual cheerfulness couldn't break through the thick cloud of tension that hung over us.
My dad remained silent, his eyes occasionally meeting mine with a stern look that made me feel like I was in trouble.
I focused on my food, trying not to let their unspoken concerns get to me.
As we ate, I decided to break the silence by suggesting that we also have some unhealthy snacks later.
I knew that my parents would disapprove, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.
"Can we have some chips or popcorn later?"
I asked, looking at my mom hopefully. She looked at me for a moment before nodding her head.
"Okay," she said, "but just one bag of chips."
I grinned triumphantly and stood up from my seat.
"I'll go get them," I said, heading towards the kitchen.
I opened the cabinet where we kept our snacks and pulled out a bag of chips.
As I walked back into the dining room, I noticed that everyone was still eating in silence.
Munira finally spoke up, her voice tentative but determined.
"Do you think Troy will really try to get back at you?" she asked, glancing nervously at Mahad.
Mahad shook his head, his expression serious. "He might, but we have to be ready for whatever comes next."
The next day, I went to Jace's party.
His parents were in Chicago for the weekend, so he was throwing a huge bash at his house.
I arrived at his place around 8 pm, and as I walked up to the door, I could hear the music blasting inside.
Jace answered the door himself, a wide smile on his face.
"Hey, man," he said, mimicking my voice perfectly.
"Come on in."
I laughed and stepped inside, following him into the living room.
The place was packed with people dancing and laughing together.
There were tables set up with drinks and snacks, and a DJ spinning tracks in the corner.
I looked around for a moment before spotting Jace's girlfriend, Lily, standing near the bar.
She was talking to some of her friends, but she caught my eye and waved me over.
As I walked towards her, I noticed that there were several bottles of alcohol on the table next to her.
I also saw some pills scattered around on the table. I knew that Jace's parties were always wild, but this one seemed different somehow.
There was an energy in the air that made me feel like anything could happen.
Lily greeted me warmly when I reached her side, giving me a hug before handing me a drink.
"Thanks," I said, taking a sip of the beer she had given me.
"So, how's it going?"
Lily smiled mischievously at me before answering.
"It's going great," she said.
"Jace is really pulling out all the stops for this party."
I nodded in agreement, looking around at all of the people dancing and laughing together.
It was clear that everyone was having a good time, and I couldn't help but feel excited to be a part of it all.
As we talked, I noticed that there were several groups of people playing drinking games in different parts of the room.
Some of them were playing beer pong while others were doing shots of liquor. I also saw some people s###g m####a in one corner of the room.
I joined the party, taking a swig of my beer and looking around for someone to talk to.
As I walked through the crowd, I noticed that there were some topless girls in the pool.
They were laughing and splashing around in the water, completely carefree.
The music was loud and energetic, and I found myself moving my body along with the beat.
I took another sip of my drink and continued making my way through the crowd.
As I walked, I noticed that there were several people smoking marijuana in one corner of the room.
I decided to join them and grabbed a joint from one of the guys who was smoking.
I took a hit and passed it back to him before continuing on my way.
As I walked through the house, I saw Jace standing near the bar with some of his friends.
He waved at me when he saw me coming towards him, and I returned his wave before joining their group. "Hey, man," he said, clapping me on the back.
"How's it going?"
"It's going good," I replied, taking another sip of my beer.
"I just got here a few minutes ago."
Jace nodded his head before turning back to his friends.
"Have you met these guys yet?" he asked me.
"No," I replied, shaking their hands one by one.
"They're some of my friends from school."
We stood there talking for a while before Jace suggested that we play a game of beer pong.
I agreed and followed him over to one of the tables where they had set up a net for playing beer pong.
We played several rounds together before taking a break and getting some more drinks from the bar. As we stood there drinking our beers, I noticed that there were some people doing shots of liquor in another part of the room.
I decided to join them and grabbed a shot glass from one of the guys who was doing shots.
I took a shot of vodka before passing the glass back to him.
Then I took another shot of rum before putting down the glass and walking away from the table. As I walked through the house, I noticed that there were several people dancing together in one corner of the room.
