I'm a high school boy, his name is Zhang Xiaolong.
I never thought my life would change just because of a "red jade" around the neck.
It gave me the power of telepathy!
At first, I didn't realize I had this ability.
It wasn't until I had a real conversation with my best friend Wang Mingyu, who studied together.
Then I discovered the strange ability that I didn't dare to believe at first.
On a sunny afternoon, after school, I took a stroll with my best friend in the square near the school.
We chatted about some recent school life.
Wang Mingyu suddenly said, "Hey, Zhang Xiaolong, do you have any idea that my parents are going to get a divorce?"
I was stunned and speechless for a few seconds, not understanding why I suddenly heard Wang Mingyu's inner thoughts in my mind.
"You... seem to be resting on your mind. Will you think about what I think?"
I was shocked to hear my own voice, but my words made Wang Mingyu confused.
"Hey, what do you mean? Resting on your mind? What's on my mind? Of course, I'm thinking about the divorce of your parents."
Wang Mingyu said innocently.
"Is it really possible that I can read your mind?"
I was stunned again and asked myself the question, but soon I realized what was happening around me.
This is how I discovered my ability!
The Red Jade
My heart beats fast, and I force a laugh.
"Hey, remember how we used to buy those after school?"
I point at a street vendor selling candied fruit.
Wang Mingyu furrows his brow at my sudden topic change, but his eyes light up when he sees the familiar cart.
"Hey, yeah! Let's go!"
We walk toward the cart, and I concentrate on blocking out the stream of thoughts flooding my mind from the people passing by.
Wang Mingyu rambles on about childhood memories, but I barely listen, too focused on controlling this new sense that's overwhelming me.
"Hey, let's get a stick of candied hawthorns each."
Wang Mingyu offers, and I nod quickly, grateful for the distraction.
As we munch on the sweet treats, Wang Mingyu suddenly stops and looks at me seriously.
The Red Jade
"Zhang Xiaolong, you really didn't know about my parents until now, did you?"
I hesitate, then decide to be honest, "No, I only found out because I... heard it in your thoughts."
Wang Mingyu stares at me, his half-eaten hawthorn frozen halfway to his mouth.
I can see the gears turning in his head, trying to understand what I mean.
I pull him away from the crowded street and into a quiet alley between two shops.
I take a deep breath, trying to explain this strange new world I've discovered.
"Wang Mingyu, when you said you didn't know about your parents until now, I heard your thoughts. Not just that they're getting a divorce, but that your dad is moving out next week."
I repeat the exact words that echoed in my mind.
Wang Mingyu's eyes widen in shock, but then he nods slowly, accepting the truth.
"That's what I was thinking."
I feel an odd sensation as he says it, like being watched from behind.
I turn around and see an elderly man standing near the entrance of the alleyway.
The Red Jade
He's dressed in a gray changshan and has a weathered face that shows signs of age.
His eyes meet mine, and with a knowing smile, he nods as if acknowledging my newfound power.
I feel uneasy under his gaze, but I turn back to Wang Mingyu.
"Hey, you're not afraid of me, right?" he asks, his voice filled with concern.
"No, it's just... this is all so strange," Wang Mingyu replies, looking around the empty alley.
Suddenly, I sense a strange presence behind me.
I turn around and see the elderly man walking slowly toward us.
Wang Mingyu tenses beside me, his eyes fixed on the old man.
"Should we go?" he whispers.
Before I can respond, the old man raises his hand in a fluid motion.
My heart stops as I realize what's happening—the brick walls on either side of us are moving!
The alleyway is getting narrower, inch by inch.

The Red Jade
Wang Mingyu grabs my arm and points at the walls.
I try to back away, but my feet feel rooted to the ground. The old man's thoughts remain silent as if he's not surprised by what's happening.
The alley closes in, and with a final nod from the old man, everything goes dark.
When my eyes adjust, I find myself standing in a dense forest clearing with Wang Mingyu.
The towering trees surrounding us block most of the sunlight, casting the area in shadows.
The old man stands a few feet away from us, dressed in his changshan, his figure more imposing against the natural backdrop.
I try to read his thoughts again, but there's only silence.
Wang Mingyu clutches my sleeve, his breathing rapid and the only sound besides the rustling of leaves.
As I attempt to take a step backward, my shoes sink slightly into the damp earth.
The old man raises his hand once more, and this time, faint whispers echo through the trees—not thoughts, but actual voices speaking in languages I've never heard before.
Wang Mingyu grips my arm tighter, his voice trembling, "What is this place? What does he want with us?"
The old man finally speaks, his voice calm and resonant, "This is a realm of forgotten whispers, where truths are revealed to those who listen."
I swallow hard, trying to steady my voice as I ask, "What truth are you talking about?"
The Red Jade
The old man gestures toward a winding trail that disappears between the twisted tree trunks, his eyes fixed on me.
I hesitate, my heart pounding in my chest.
The whispers grow louder, echoing through the forest, and Wang Mingyu's grip on my arm tightens.
With a deep breath, I take a step forward, followed by Wang Mingyu and the old man.
The dead leaves crunch beneath our feet as we venture into the unknown.
The old man moves with surprising agility, his gray changshan barely brushing the ground.
I try to read his thoughts again, but there's only silence.
As we continue down the path, it begins to narrow, forcing us to walk single file.
Wang Mingyu stays behind me, while the old man leads the way.
Branches scrape against my shoulders as we delve deeper into the dense forest.
The Red Jade
Wang Mingyu whispers, "Do you think he brought us here to show us something important?"
The old man glances back, his eyes twinkling with an unreadable emotion, "You both have a connection to this place, one that runs deeper than you realize."
I feel a chill run down my spine as I ask, "What kind of connection are you talking about?"
