I was reborn into this world as a small goat, and my head had a patch of white hair.
I am a guardian spirit, reborn in this body.
When I first opened my eyes, I saw an unfamiliar ceiling.
I looked around and found myself in the corner of a cluttered attic.
There were boxes stacked on top of each other, clothes hanging from the ceiling, and a few relics that seemed to be useless.
The only thing that caught my attention was a ladder going down to the first floor and a bed in the corner.
Suddenly, I heard footsteps coming up the stairs, and then the sound of someone climbing the ladder.
A young girl appeared in front of me, carrying a basket full of food and drinks.
She looked around the attic and seemed to be searching for something until her eyes fell on me.
Her expression changed from surprise to confusion and then to happiness.
I watch intently as the girl sets the basket down on a worn wooden table near the ladder.
The woven handle creaks as she begins unpacking items one by one - a loaf of crusty bread, some apples, and what appears to be wrapped cheese.
My hooves click against the floorboards as I cautiously approach, drawn by unfamiliar yet enticing smells.
The girl freezes mid-motion, watching me with wide eyes but making no sudden movements.
I stretch my neck forward, my nose twitching as I investigate the nearest apple.
Its red skin gleams in the dusty attic light.
I watch the girl's gentle movements as she arranges the food on the table.
The apple's scent is sweet and inviting, but I notice other items scattered around the space - a few charcoal sticks, some wrinkled papers, and half-finished drawings pinned to the walls.
My new hooves navigate carefully between these items, testing my balance.
The girl slowly extends her hand, offering me a piece of apple.
I accept it, chewing while studying the ladder that leads downstairs.
The wooden rungs look sturdy enough for my small frame.
The girl follows my gaze and takes a step toward the ladder.
"Are you thinking of going down there?" she asks softly, her voice a gentle whisper in the quiet attic.
I nod, my ears flicking with curiosity, and she smiles, a hint of mischief in her eyes.
"Well, you're not just any goat, are you?" she continues, lowering her voice conspiratorially.
I watch her test each ladder rung, making sure it's stable enough for my hooves.
She guides me toward the first step, her hand hovering near my back.
Just as I'm about to take the leap, a sudden flutter and chirp draws our attention to the window.
A small sparrow with wings tipped in an unusual blue perches on the sill, hopping back and forth while peering at us intently.
The girl freezes mid-step, her hand still hovering near my back.
The bird chirps again, more urgently this time, and hops closer to the attic's interior.
My new goat instincts tell me this is no ordinary sparrow.
The girl turns to me, her eyes wide with understanding, and whispers, "It's time."
