Liu Yanheng
resilient, and witty. Liu Yanheng faces betrayal by her mother, husband, and brother. She marries Zhang Fugui to seek revenge and becomes a famous courtesan. Eventually, she uses her talents to take down Wei's plot against the emperor, gaining a national teacher title and position.
Xiao Chengyan
passionate, yet impetuous. Despite knowing Liu Yanheng's past as a courtesan, Xiao Chengyan repeatedly confesses his love and tries to persuade her to marry him. His persistent yet respectful demeanor contrasts with Liu Yanheng's reluctance, highlighting his deep devotion and ultimately leads to her rejection, as she prioritizes past commitments.
Zhao Jingxuan
ambitious, and opportunistic. Zhao Jingxuan achieves the title of Duke through deceit and manipulates situations to his advantage. His true identity remains hidden until exposed by Liu Yanheng's play, which disrupts his fabricated persona and ultimately leads to his downfall when he is implicated in the assassination plot against the emperor.
My script, "The Mourning Moon", was stolen by Zhao Jingxuan.
My mother forced me to marry Zhang Fugui.
My brother, Liu Chengze, humiliated me.
Zhang Fugui burned my script.
Cuiping led the authorities to capture me.
The betrayal of Cuiping, my so-called sister, sent me to prison.
All these people were like evil demons tormenting me, stealing my talent, destroying my heart, and trampling my soul.
If I could go back in time…
I would use "Reflections in the Mirror" to expose Zhao Jingxuan's puppet identity!
I would use "The Lament of Family Values" to battle the evils of my family!
I would use "The Chronicles of the Drunken Land" to pursue Zhang Fugui!
I would use "The Shattered Firmament" to help the new emperor eliminate Wei's plot!
No one would steal my talent!
No one would destroy my heart!
No one would force me to marry!
No one would humiliate me!
No one would burn my script!
No one would send me to prison!
The curtain of the theater rose, and the crowded audience fell silent.
I stood in front of the stage, my eyes fixed on Zhao Jingxuan sitting in the first row with a smug expression.
The actors took their positions, and I signaled for the play to begin.
The first scene was a puppet show.
A master controlled a decorated official puppet, making it perform all sorts of actions.
As the scene progressed, it became clear that the puppet was actually a metaphor for Zhao Jingxuan himself.
His face tightened as he realized he was the subject of ridicule.
When the puppet master's identity was revealed to be someone from the Wei family, Zhao's hands gripped the armrests tightly.
The audience whispered and pointed, connecting the similarities between Zhao and the character in the play.
As the final act came to an end, I stepped forward and bowed deeply.
My eyes locked with Zhao's pale face in the crowd.
The performance ended, and the audience erupted into applause.
I retreated to my private chamber in the theater, still trembling from the confrontation with Zhao.
As I sat at the table, a shadow moved behind the silk screen divider.
Before I could call for help, a hooded figure emerged from behind the screen.
It was a woman dressed in a dark cloak, her face hidden behind a mask.
She approached me, and I instinctively retreated until I was pressed against the wall.
The woman reached into her cloak and pulled out a sealed letter, which she placed on the table in front of me.
I stared at her in confusion, unsure what to do.
Suddenly, she spoke in a cold voice, "I've been waiting for you here."
I tried to make sense of the situation.
The woman's voice seemed familiar, but I couldn't quite place it.
The letter on the table was sealed with a symbol I didn't recognize.
As I reached for it, she swiftly grabbed my wrist and pulled me back. "Wait," she said firmly.
I froze, unsure of what to do next.
The woman then released my hand and turned to leave.
But before she did, she looked back at me and whispered, "You have something that belongs to me."
With that, she vanished into the darkness behind the silk screen divider.
I stood there frozen for a moment, trying to make sense of what had just happened.
Then I looked down at the letter on the table and picked it up.
Breaking the seal, I opened it and began to read.
As I read through the pages, my eyes grew wide with shock and disbelief.
The letter contained information that could bring down Zhao Jingxuan and expose his puppet identity once and for all.
But as I read on, I realized that this was more than just about Zhao's fate - it was also about my own destiny. The letter revealed secrets that could change everything for both of us.
It was clear that whoever wrote this letter had been watching me from afar, waiting for the right moment to strike.
And now that they had finally made their move, there was no turning back for either of us.
I felt a surge of determination rise up inside of me as I finished reading the letter.
I knew that this was just the beginning - but I was ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
The hooded figure emerged from the shadows once again as I finished reading the letter.
This time, however, she approached me without any aggression or mystery.
She simply said, "It's time for you to reclaim your story."
