I was in prison, but I had never given up hope.
I knew that one day I would be free and find love again.
It was a long shot, but I had to believe.
"Officer Thompson, what are you doing?"
I asked as she unlocked my cell.
"I am taking you out of here," she said.
"What? Why?"
"I believe that you are innocent. You do not belong in here."
"But they will catch us and send me back."
"I know, but I have to try."
She was a prison guard and the only person that truly believed me.
We had bonded over our shared experiences of being abused by men.
She had been a victim and understood my pain.
"I have to get some things, meet me at the old oak tree outside the prison at midnight."
She said, giving me a small note with her address.
"I will be there."
I told her, looking at the note.
I would make sure to remember it.
I was going to be free and I had her to thank for it.
I waited until midnight and made my way to her house.
It was a small cottage with flowers in the front.
She was waiting for me on the front step.
"Are you ready?"
She asked as I approached.
"Yes," I said, looking around to make sure that no one was watching.
We made our way to her car and got in.
