Once there was a beautiful princess named Isabella.
She had never gone beyond the palace gates and was hence very naive about the world.
One day, she saw a beggar girl standing outside the gates and begging for food.
The princess was moved by her plight and decided to help her out.
She knew that according to the rules, she was not supposed to meet any commoner but she could not bear the condition of the girl.
She decided that she would meet the girl and give her some food and clothes.
The next day, she went to meet the beggar girl at the same spot.
The girl was waiting for her with hope in her eyes.
The princess gave her some food and new clothes.
The beggar girl was overjoyed and thanked her with all her heart.
The princess could see the happiness in her eyes and felt satisfied that she had done something good.
She decided to meet the girl every day and help her out.
For this, she started stealing from her mother's treasury to fulfill her wish.
She thought that she was doing a good deed and hence there was no wrong in stealing.
She continued to steal from the treasury for a long time until one day she was caught red-handed by the king himself.
The king asked her to explain why she was stealing from the treasury.
The Princess And The Beggar Girl
The princess stood frozen before her father in his private study.
The afternoon sun streamed through the tall windows, casting long shadows on the marble floor.
The king sat behind his massive desk, his stern expression making her want to shrink back into the shadows.
But she forced herself to stand tall and meet her father's eyes.
"Father, I met a beggar girl outside the palace gates," she began, her hands trembling as she clutched the stolen gold coins tightly in her fists.
"She was so poor and hungry that it broke my heart to see her. She wore tattered clothes and had no shoes on her feet. Her eyes were dull and empty, like a piece of glass that had lost its shine."
Isabella took a deep breath and continued, "I decided to help her out by giving her some food and clothes. I felt bad for her condition, so I went to meet her every day at the same spot. She waited for me eagerly and was overjoyed when she saw me. Her smile was so pure and innocent that it made my heart happy to see her. I felt like I had done something good by helping her."
The king's expression softened slightly as he listened to his daughter's words.
He could see the sincerity in her eyes and knew that she wasn't trying to deceive him.
He leaned forward in his chair and asked Isabella to tell him everything from the beginning.
The Princess And The Beggar Girl
Isabella took a deep breath and began to recount her story, knowing that her next words would determine her fate.
"Father, I met the beggar girl three weeks ago when I was going for my horse riding lessons," Isabella said, settling into the leather chair across from her father's desk.
"I saw her standing outside the palace gates, begging for food and money from the passersby. She was dressed in tattered clothes and had a dirty face. At first, I thought she was a doll, but then I realized that she was a real person."
Isabella's voice grew steadier as she continued to tell her story.
"I felt bad for her condition and decided to help her out. So, every day, I would go to meet her at the same spot and give her some bread from the palace kitchen. I also brought her a warm cloak to keep her warm during the cold winter nights."
The king listened intently to his daughter's words, his expression softening with each passing minute.
He could see the kindness in Isabella's eyes and knew that she wasn't trying to deceive him.
He leaned back in his chair and asked Isabella to tell him more about the beggar girl she had met.
Isabella smiled as she thought about the beggar girl and all the happy times they had shared together.
"Father, the beggar girl was so grateful for everything I did for her," Isabella said, her voice filled with warmth.
"She would wait for me eagerly every day at the same spot, hoping that I would come to meet her. She had such a sweet smile that it made my heart happy to see her. I felt like I had done something good by helping her." The king nodded his head as he listened to his daughter's words.
The Princess And The Beggar Girl
He could see that Isabella was genuinely happy when she talked about the beggar girl.
He asked Isabella if she had ever seen anyone else with the beggar girl while she was meeting with her.
Isabella shook her head no and told her father that she had only seen the beggar girl alone whenever she went to meet her.
The king nodded his head again and asked Isabella if she knew anything about the beggar girl's family or where she lived.
Isabella thought for a moment before answering.
The Princess And The Beggar Girl
"Father, I don't know much about the beggar girl's family or where she lives," Isabella said.
"But I do know that she is very poor and hungry. She doesn't have any shoes on her feet and dresses in tattered clothes. She looks like a doll, but she is a real person who deserves our help."
The king nodded his head again and told Isabella that he was proud of her for trying to help the beggar girl.
He told her that she had a kind heart and that he would make sure to send some food and clothes to the beggar girl.
Isabella's face lit up with a smile as she thanked her father for his kindness.
She stood up from her chair and walked over to her father's desk, where she hugged him tightly.
"Thank you, Father," Isabella said, her voice filled with gratitude.
"I'm glad that you're going to help the beggar girl. She deserves our help."
The king smiled and hugged his daughter back, feeling proud of the young woman she was becoming.
He knew that Isabella had a good heart and that she would always try to help those in need. As the king sat in his private study, he couldn't help but think about the beggar girl who his daughter had met outside the palace gates.
He wondered if there was anything more he could do to help the girl and make sure that she was safe and happy.
The king decided that he would send one of his guards to go check on the beggar girl and see if she needed anything else.
The Princess And The Beggar Girl
He also decided that he would give Isabella permission to continue meeting with the girl, as long as she promised to be careful and stay safe.
Isabella was overjoyed when her father told her that he would allow her to continue meeting with the beggar girl.
She thanked him again and again, promising to be careful and stay safe while she was out helping others.
As Isabella left her father's study, she couldn't help but feel happy about everything that had happened.
She knew that her father was proud of her for trying to help someone in need, and that made all the difference in the world. The princess stood frozen before her father in his private study, her hands trembling as she clutched the stolen gold coins tightly in her fists.
The king sat behind his massive desk, his stern expression making her want to shrink back into the shadows.
But she forced herself to stand tall and meet her father's eyes.
"Father, I met a beggar girl outside the palace gates," she began, trying to keep her voice steady.
"She was so poor and hungry that it broke my heart to see her. She wore tattered clothes and had no shoes on her feet. Her eyes were dull and empty, like a piece of glass that had lost its shine."
"Isabella, do you realize the risk you've taken by doing this?" the king asked, his voice a mix of concern and frustration.
The Princess And The Beggar Girl
"I know, Father, but I couldn't just stand by and do nothing," Isabella replied, her eyes pleading for understanding.
"Then we must find a way to help her without endangering you or breaking the law," the king said, his tone softening as he considered a solution.
After dinner, I lingered in the dining hall with Father, pushing my dessert around the plate as I gathered my courage to speak with him.
The servants cleared away the expensive silver dishes and fine china, leaving us alone in the grand room.
I watched as they carried out the heavy silverware, wondering if the beggar girl had ever tasted food from a plate like these.
The thought made me think of her again, eating stale bread and begging for scraps.
But then another idea formed in my mind - why help just one person when there were so many others suffering?
I turned to Father, who sat at the head of the table, sipping his wine.
"Father, I have an idea," I said, my voice steady and determined.
He looked at me, his expression curious.
"What is it, Isabella?"
"I want to host a grand feast," I told him, my words spilling out quickly.
The Princess And The Beggar Girl
"But not just any feast. A charity feast. We'll invite all the nobles and merchants to come and enjoy a night of food and entertainment. And in return, they'll bring donations - money and supplies - to help those in need."
Father's eyes widened as he considered my proposal.
"That's a wonderful idea, Isabella," he said finally.
"But how do you plan on making it happen?"
I pulled out the small notebook I always carried with me and began to sketch out my plan.
The Princess And The Beggar Girl
My hand moved quickly across the page as I spoke. "We'll use the ballroom for the feast," I told him.
"And when the night ends, we'll have enough to change more lives than just one."
The king sat at his desk, his hands moving quickly as he drafted the invitation letters.
His quill scratched against the parchment, leaving a trail of dark ink behind.
He carefully penned each noble family's name in his best calligraphy, making sure to add any important titles or honors.
The stack of completed invitations grew slowly, and the king felt a sense of satisfaction as he saw them pile up.
Lord Wellington, Lady Ashworth, the merchant guild master - they were all included on the list.
As he worked, the king's mind wandered back to the beggar girl and how much she had changed Isabella's life already.
He couldn't help but feel grateful for the young girl's presence, even if it was only temporary.
The king finished the last invitation and set it aside to dry before turning his attention to the next task at hand - selecting the perfect ribbons and wax seals to adorn each envelope.
He wanted every detail to be perfect, from the elegant script to the delicate trim around the edges.
He knew that these small touches would make a big difference in how the invitations were received by their wealthy donors. As he worked, a knock came at the door, and the castle steward entered with a bow.
The Princess And The Beggar Girl
"Your Majesty," he said, holding out a small piece of parchment.
"The final guest count is complete. We have received responses from all of the nobles and merchants. They will be arriving on Saturday evening."
The king took the parchment from the steward and examined it quickly before nodding his head in approval.
"Very good," he said.
"See that everything is ready for their arrival."
The steward bowed again and turned to leave, but I stopped him with a raised hand.
"One more thing," I said, looking down at my own hands which were stained with ink.
"Please have someone prepare a bath for me. I fear I have gotten myself quite dirty."
The steward smiled and bowed once more before hurrying off to fulfill my request.
I sighed and set down my quill, watching as a small droplet of ink fell from its tip onto my desk.
