Hunter and I are perfect.
Well, at least we are to me.
I think we are perfect.
I don’t really know what other people’s opinions are, but I don’t really care about that.
I care about us.
We are twenty; both of us have blonde hair.
Well, mine is lighter than his.
He has green eyes; mine are blue.
He’s tall and handsome.
I’m tall and… Well, I guess I’m pretty.
I mean, people tell me I’m pretty or beautiful or whatever.
I just don’t see it.
I mean, I’m beautiful on the outside—I guess.
I’m ugly on the inside, though.
Well, at least that’s what I’ve been told.
I used to think everything was fine—until my ex told me otherwise.
Now I just try to hide it—from everyone… even Hunter.
Hunter loves me, though.
He loves me so much that he would move the whole entire world for me if I asked him to.
He’s moved heaven and earth for me already!
He’s the only person who seems to get it—get me.
He always knows exactly what to do when I need him—when I’m freaking out… like I am right now.
"Baby. Don’t worry. It’s fine. Just relax," Hunter tells me as he holds me in my favorite way—in his arms—on our bed—at home—where I am most comfortable and secure with him in the bedroom.
I snuggle deeper into his embrace, and he lets out a soft sigh.
He’s wearing a t-shirt, so the soft cotton brushes against my cheek as I nuzzle closer.
His fingers are tracing patterns on my back, and I inhale deeply, breathing in his scent—pine and laundry detergent.
It’s calming.
I can feel my thoughts starting to slow down.
"Hailey," Hunter presses a kiss to my temple.
His heart beats steadily beneath my ear, and I focus on that instead of the echoes of cruel words from my past.
His chest rises and falls in a slow rhythm, and I find myself matching my breathing to his.
When his hand moves up to stroke my hair, I close my eyes and nuzzle closer, pressing my face into the solid warmth of his chest.
"Hailey, there's something I need to tell you," Hunter says softly, his voice a mix of hesitation and urgency.
I pull back slightly to look at him, my heart skipping a beat. "What is it, Hunter?"
I sit up a little straighter, my fingers gripping the softness of his t-shirt as I meet his green eyes.
He reaches over to the nightstand drawer, pulling it open and revealing a small stack of papers.
He picks up the top two and holds them out to me.
I lean forward, trying to peek at what they say, but he quickly moves them behind his back and grins.
I roll my eyes playfully, reaching around him to try and get them back, but he catches my wrist in his hand and pulls me closer.
"Not yet," he whispers against my ear, his breath tickling my skin.
His lips press against the shell of my ear, making me shiver.
"Tomorrow."
I squirm in his lap, trying to decide if I want to keep fighting for them or just enjoy the sensation of his lips on my skin.
When I pout dramatically, he kisses the spot just below my ear again, making me forget all about the mysterious papers for a moment.
