I am in love.
I am not saying that I am in love with her, I am saying that I am IN LOVE with her.
There is a difference.
I know what you are thinking, "How can you be in love with someone you don’t even know?" Well, let me tell you, I know her.
I know everything about her.
I know that she is the most beautiful girl in school.
I know that she has the cutest smile, laugh, and dimples.
I know that she is sweet and shy and that she is very smart.
I know that she has beautiful gray eyes and long black hair that cascades down her back in waves.
I know that she has a small tattoo of a rose on her left ankle and a scar above her right eyebrow.
I know that she always wears white socks and low black boots when she is at school.
I know that she carries a black purse that has a silver buckle on the front.
I know that she loves to read and write stories.
I know that she likes to listen to rock music and play video games.
I know that she loves to eat ice cream, especially strawberry and chocolate.
I know that she drinks Mountain Dew and Dr. Pepper soda.
I know that she loves cats and hates dogs.
I know that she drives a black Honda Civic with tinted windows.
The Pledge
During lunch break, I see her sitting at her usual corner table in the cafeteria.
Her black purse with the silver buckle is sitting beside her tray.
She is wearing those low black boots and white socks that I love so much.
She is nodding her head slightly to whatever is playing through her earbuds.
I grab my lunch and walk over to where she is sitting.
I notice that she has a phone case that has the Metallica logo on it.
My heart starts racing as I get closer to her table.
I am trying to think of what I am going to say to her when I get there.
Just as I am about to reach her table, she pulls out her earbuds and starts humming "Enter Sandman."
Perfect timing.
The Pledge
I clear my throat and ask, "Is that Metallica you are listening to?"
She looks up at me and smiles.
She pulls one of the earbuds out of her ear and says, "Yeah. I love Metallica. I saw them live last summer."
My heart starts racing even faster as she starts telling me about the concert.
I slide into the seat across from her and listen intently as she tells me about seeing them live.
I love how her eyes light up when she talks about them.
I love how she uses her hands to gesture when she is talking about something that she is passionate about.
The noise from the cafeteria fades away as we talk about our shared love of Metallica.
We talk about our favorite songs and albums.
She tells me why "Nothing Else Matters" is her favorite song and how it speaks to her soul.
I am so engrossed in what she is saying that I don’t notice the gray blur until it jumps onto our table.
The Pledge
It’s that stray cat that has been hanging around campus for the last few weeks.
