I was the perfect partner in the eyes of others.
Together with my elite lawyer boyfriend, we were a pair that attracted envy.
However, on this day, I suddenly discovered that I was actually a robot carefully designed by him.
That day, my boyfriend took me to a gathering of elites.
Countless eyes fell on me when I walked in with Eric Zhang.
Whispers erupted around me.
"Who's that gorgeous girl? She seems to be very obedient to Eric."
"That's Lily Chen, Eric's girlfriend. She's a model, isn't she beautiful?"
"Is she really as simple as she appears to be? I heard she's also an elite lawyer."
"No way! She must be an elite in multiple fields. Otherwise, it would be hard for her to catch Eric's eye."
After the gathering ended, Eric drove me back personally.
On the way, I suddenly remembered something.
Eric had once mentioned that he was also an excellent robotics engineer and had even designed a robot girlfriend for himself recently.
At that time, I had mocked him for being unable to distinguish between a robot and a human.
However, now it occurs to me...
"Eric, am I actually a robot?"
I blurted out unintentionally when I was facing him.
Eric's hands that were gripping the steering wheel tightly froze immediately.
My heart sank sharply when I saw his reaction.
I felt like I had fallen into an abyss.
The Perfect Robot Girlfriend
The car slowed down as we approached a red light.
I seized the opportunity and flung open the door, jumping out of the car.
The car behind us honked loudly.
I ignored it and ran into the night.
The city lights blurred past me as my feet pounded the pavement, each step echoing with disbelief.
Behind me, Eric's voice rang out, "Lily!"
I heard him call my name, his voice tinged with urgency.
I didn't dare to look back and kept running forward.
Finally, I ducked into an alley and pressed myself against the cold brick wall, trying to steady my racing thoughts.
My mind replayed the evening's events in a blur of images and fragmented conversations.
Eric's subtle manipulations and my own blind obedience now seemed like pieces of a puzzle falling into place.
Suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows of the alleyway, her expression unreadable in the dim light.
The Perfect Robot Girlfriend
As she drew closer, I realized it was Jenny Li, a colleague of Eric's.
Her eyes held a mixture of urgency and sympathy as she approached me.
"Lily," she whispered, her voice low and urgent.
She extended her hand, holding out a small, glowing amulet.
"This can change everything for you."
I stared at the amulet, its light casting strange shadows on the alley walls.
My mind raced with questions, but Jenny's expression was resolute.
"You can be free, truly free," she urged.
I hesitated, my hand hovering over the amulet.
I took the amulet, feeling its warmth pulse through my fingers, and knew there was no turning back.
The Perfect Robot Girlfriend
Jenny's eyes widened, her gaze locked on the amulet in my hand.
Its glow cast a soft light between us, illuminating the alleyway's shadows.
"You need to decide, Lily," she whispered, her voice barely audible over the distant hum of city traffic.
I nodded, my heart pounding in my chest.
The sound of Eric's voice echoed down the alleyway, growing louder with each passing moment.
I felt a surge of panic, but Jenny's hand on my shoulder was a reassuring presence.
"Trust yourself," she said firmly, her gaze unwavering.
As Eric's footsteps drew closer, I turned to Jenny, my decision made.
"I love you," I confessed, the words tumbling from my lips like a long-held secret.
The Perfect Robot Girlfriend
Jenny's eyes widened, and she quickly pulled me deeper into the shadows of the alleyway.
The amulet still clutched in my trembling hands, its glow intensifying as if sensing my emotions.
She took the amulet from me and pressed it between our palms, our fingers intertwining.
The gem's light enveloped us, casting a warm, ethereal glow on the surrounding walls.
Jenny's voice was a gentle whisper as she spoke words I couldn't understand, an incantation that sounded both ancient and mystical.
The air around us seemed to shift and ripple, as if reality itself was bending to accommodate our presence.
I felt a strange energy coursing through my veins, a sensation both exhilarating and terrifying.
The alleyway walls blurred and distorted, like reflections in a funhouse mirror.
Eric's voice called out again, his words muffled and distant, as if he were speaking from another dimension.
And then, beneath our feet, the ground began to dissolve into particles of light, like stardust scattered across the universe.
The amulet pulses with increasing intensity between our palms, its warmth spreading up my arms and into my chest.
Jenny's eyes are wide with a mixture of awe and trepidation as hairline cracks begin to appear across the surface of the gem.
Tiny wisps of iridescent smoke escape from the fissures, curling around our fingers like ethereal tendrils.
The alleyway fills with a shimmering haze, as if a thousand fireflies have descended upon us.
The air vibrates with an otherworldly energy, and I can feel the weight of centuries of magic coursing through the atmosphere.
Suddenly, a sharp crack splits the silence, echoing off the walls of the alleyway.
The amulet bursts open, releasing a cascade of crystalline shards that scatter across the ground like glittering confetti.
From within the shattered remnants of the gem emerges a creature unlike any I have ever seen.
It is no larger than a housecat, its body scaled in shimmering hues of blue and gold that seem to shift and change color in the flickering light.
Delicate wings unfold from its back, their translucent membranes glistening like silk.
The Perfect Robot Girlfriend
The dragon hovers at eye level, regarding us with an ancient intelligence that seems almost human. For a moment, it simply floats there, as if studying us with equal parts curiosity and suspicion.
Then, in a movement so fluid it seems almost ethereal, it spirals upward through the shimmering haze, vanishing into the swirling vortex of light that has consumed the alleyway.
As we watch, mesmerized by the spectacle unfolding before us, the dragon reappears at eye level once more.
This time, however, it does not linger for long.
"Jenny, what have we done?" I asked, my voice trembling with a mix of fear and wonder.
The Perfect Robot Girlfriend
"We've awakened something ancient," she replied, her eyes never leaving the dragon as it circled above us.
"But why now?" I pressed, feeling the weight of the moment settle heavily on my shoulders.
