The Oscars were hosted by a hologram of Marlon Brando, criticizing modern actors for not living up to his legacy.
I’m famous for falling on my face, but I’ve never performed in front of an audience of millions.
I sat at the Oscars, waiting for my cue, and I thought my heart would beat out of my chest.
I was so nervous, I had to take a few deep breaths to keep myself from hyperventilating.
I wasn’t just worried about the success of the event, which was intended to honor the late, great Marlon Brando; I was also anxious about the path my life would take as an actress in my own right.
My uncle Marlon had achieved legendary status before his untimely death, and I couldn’t help but feel the weight of that legacy as I sat there in a sea of Hollywood’s most prestigious faces.
I was confident I could do my part and do it well, but what if it wasn’t enough?
“Emily,” a soft voice called beside me.
I turned to see Lily Chen, my publicist.
She was a veteran actress who’d been around since the beginning of movie making itself, and her hair was now silver and elegant.
She took my hand reassuringly.
“You’re going to be just fine.”
Her calmness washed over me, and I was grateful for her soothing presence.
“I’ve been working with you for over six months now.I’ve seen you train and rehearse. You are so talented, and you have worked so hard.
The world is going to see exactly what you are capable of tonight, and they’re going to love you.”
“Don’t worry about that,” she said.
“The audience is going to be thrilled to hear you speak about your experience as an actress at this event.”
I only nodded.
Lily gave my hand a final squeeze before she let go, and I turned my attention back to the stage.
The audience was on the edge of their seats, eager to see what would happen next.
A holographic image of my late uncle Marlon Brando appeared on the stage, and he waved and smiled at the audience as they erupted into applause.
The screen behind him said “Oscars 1000” in large letters.
Then it showed images of movies from the past century, all with something in common: they were all winners of Oscars.
Marlon Brando was responsible for so many of them himself.
He was a legend, an icon, and the world adored him.
He’d won eight Oscars in his lifetime.
The hologram stood at the podium and smiled at the audience.
“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.I’m Marlon Brando, and I’ll be your host this evening.” He paused as the audience cheered loudly.
“Please take your seats and enjoy an evening honoring Hollywood’s best and brightest.”
Marlon Brando was a legend in every sense of the word.
He’d been around since before movies even had sound.
He’d been in movies longer than almost anyone else in Hollywood, and he’d won more Oscars than nearly anyone else.
I was proud to be his niece, but I was also proud to be an actress in his own right.
Marlon turned and walked back to his dressing room.
The screen behind him showed a countdown to when he would return to the stage.
The audience sat in silence as it waited for the show to begin.
I glanced around the room and saw a sea of famous faces.
