"Hey Mia, I'm here!"
I announced through the mic.
Mia Thompson, my best friend, was hosting a party and had invited me a few days ago.
I didn't ask her much about it, but I knew it had something to do with her birthday, which was a week ago.
I figured she wanted to celebrate it with me and her other friends.
"Get in through the small door, Alex. And... try not to look too much, okay?"
Her words made me furrow my brows.
What could she mean?
But I didn't ask her for clarification.
Instead, I walked toward the door she had mentioned and opened it.
The first thing I noticed was the sound of laughter and chatter filling the air.
It seemed like there were a lot of people at this party.
And then my eyes widened as I took in the scene before me.
Everywhere I looked, there were girls—laughing, chatting, and having fun in the large swimming pool on the backyard.
Some were lying down on the sunbeds, while others were dancing to the music coming from the speakers.
And then it hit me—there were no guys!
What was going on?
"Mia!"
I called out again through the mic.
Where was she?
And why hadn't she told me that this was a girlsonly party?
"Heyyy, Alex!"
Her voice sounded from behind me, and I turned around to see her.
The Only Boy At The Party
She was wearing a bright blue swimsuit that hugged her body in all the right places, and her hair was tied up in a high ponytail.
Her brown eyes were sparkling, and her lips were curled up in her signature mischievous grin.
She leaned casually against the doorframe, while I stood frozen, acutely aware of the curious glances from the girls around us.
"What's wrong?"
Her voice sounded innocent, but her smirk told me otherwise.
I gestured toward the pool area.
"You didn't tell me this was a girls-only party."
At least fifteen girls were lounging by the pool or swimming in it.
I noticed Emily Wilson, who was in my chemistry class, waving at me from her sunbed.
My cheeks burned with embarrassment as I lowered my voice and stepped closer to Mia.

"Can I talk to you for a moment?"
Mia's grin widened as she nodded, and I realized I was about to uncover a secret I never saw coming.
I dragged Mia to a quiet corner near the pool equipment, away from the splashing and laughter.
She kept that smirk on her face as I gestured at the dozen girls in swimsuits around us.
"Mia, what's going on?"
I whispered-shouted, trying not to draw more attention than we already had.
"You could've warned me I'd be the only guy here."
She leaned against the wall, adjusting the strap of her blue swimsuit with practiced casualness.
"Hey, Alex!"
Emily's voice called from the pool.
"Come join us!"
Mia just shrugged, but I caught a glint in her eye that told me this wasn't a simple oversight.
