Pili
"Pili! Pili! Wake up!"
I heard someone calling my name.
I opened my eyes and suddenly sat up on my bed.
"Oh no! I'm late," I said to myself out loud.
I jumped off my bed and ran outside to answer the call.
"Good morning, Dahong," I greeted my best friend and neighbor.
"Good morning, Pili," Dahong D. Darter replied.
"Did you sleep well?" he asked me as he swam closer to my door.
"Yes, I did," I replied.
"Grandpa told me amazing stories about his travels last night," I added.
"Oh, that's great," Dahong said.
"We should hear them too."
He smiled and nodded at me.
"Let's go to your grandpa's place," he suggested.
We swam to Grandpa Goby's house, which was just a fin flick away from mine, to hear more of his travel stories.
We have been friends forever since we met on our first day in fish school.
He lives in Jellyfish Tree Village, just like me, on a beautiful watery planet called Neptune.
Dahong's family owns a very popular seaweed farm in our village.
The water was shimmering as we swam to Grandpa's house.
The sun was shining brightly through the water, making it look like a million diamonds.
We swam through the village, greeting some of our friends and neighbors along the way.
Grandpa Goby was already outside his house when we arrived.
He was tending to his small coral garden in front of his house.
"Ah, Pili, Dahong! Just in time," he said as he greeted us.
We settled down on the sandy floor in front of his house and waited for him to start telling us his latest travel story.
Grandpa Goby is a very famous explorer on Neptune.
He has traveled to almost every corner of the planet and has seen many amazing things.
He loves sharing his stories with us whenever we visit him.
"Last week, I traveled to the Coral Caves," he started saying.
"It's a very beautiful place. The caves are filled with all sorts of colors. There are red corals, blue corals, green corals, and even purple corals."
He paused for a moment before continuing his story.
"The caves are also home to many different species of fish. Some of them are very colorful, while others are very ugly."
Grandpa Goby chuckled as he said this last part.
"There are also many hidden treasures inside the caves. I found a cave filled with shiny shells and another one filled with glittering gemstones."
His eyes were twinkling as he told us about his latest adventure. "I want to explore the Coral Caves too," I whispered to Dahong as Grandpa Goby continued telling us about his travels.
Dahong looked at me and nodded slowly.
"I'll go with you," he said quietly.
We both listened intently as Grandpa Goby finished telling us about his trip to the Coral Caves.
When he was done, we thanked him for sharing his story with us and promised to visit him again soon.
Dahong and I swam back to our houses after visiting Grandpa Goby that day.
We were both excited about our plan to explore the Coral Caves together.
"Pili, do you think it's safe to go without telling anyone?" Dahong asked, a hint of concern in his voice.
"I know it's risky, but if we tell someone, they might stop us," I replied, trying to sound more confident than I felt.
"Alright, but let's make sure we have everything we need before we leave," Dahong said, determination replacing his earlier hesitation.
