It was the year 2025.
I was a 24-year-old politician, and I wanted to change this country called the United States of America.
I wanted to make it better for every person living here, especially those who were marginalized.
My name is Mohamed Abdi, and I was running for presidency against a man named Freddy Larson.
He was currently the president wishing to run for his second term.
Freddy Larson was a 45-year-old white man who was a republican.
He had a history of saying bad things about every minority group in the country, including blacks, Muslims, Hispanics, Asians, and even women.
He hated gay people and didn't want them to get married or have children.
He didn't want women to have abortions, even if they were raped or if the pregnancy would harm their health.
He wanted to make America great again by kicking out every immigrant who came here looking for a better life.
Freddy Larson was against any kind of change that would help people progress.
He wanted America to go back to the 1950s when blacks were treated like animals and women were only allowed to be housewives.
I was a democrat, and my whole campaign was about making America a better place for everyone.
We were in Washington DC, and my team and I were in our office.
Our office was a big room with many desks and chairs.
There were also many computers and printers.
The walls were covered with maps of the United States and pictures of my team and me.
There were also many books on politics and history.
My team consisted of people from different backgrounds.
There were blacks, whites, Hispanics, Asians, Muslims, Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, atheists, gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgenders, and people with disabilities.
We were all working together to make America a better place for everyone.
We had a meeting every day to discuss our plans and strategies.
We talked about the issues that we wanted to focus on during our campaign.
The New President
We wanted to reinstate the laws that protected the rights of LGBTQIA+ people.
We wanted to make sure that women had access to abortions and birth control.
We wanted to protect the rights of minorities and immigrants.
We wanted to make sure that everyone had access to healthcare and education.
We also wanted to reform the criminal justice system so that it was fair for everyone. We spent most of our time researching and gathering information about the issues that we wanted to focus on.
We read books and articles, watched documentaries, and talked to experts in different fields.
We also traveled around the country to meet with people from different communities and learn about their experiences.
We wanted to make sure that our campaign was inclusive and represented the voices of all Americans.
As we continued our research and planning, Freddy Larson was also preparing for his campaign.
He had a big team of advisors and strategists who were helping him come up with ways to win the election.
He was using social media to spread his message and connect with his supporters.
He was also traveling around the country giving speeches and attending rallies.
Freddy Larson's campaign was focused on his promise to make America great again.
He claimed that he would create jobs, improve the economy, and keep America safe from terrorism. He also promised to build a wall along the border with Mexico to keep out illegal immigrants.
He said that he would make America so great that everyone would want to live here. Freddy Larson's message resonated with some Americans who felt that the country was not living up to its potential.
The New President
They believed that he had the answers to their problems and that he would make America great again.
I sat at my desk looking over the final logistics for our nationwide town hall broadcast tomorrow night.
My campaign manager, Sarah Chen, walked into the room with a stack of papers in her hand.
"Hey, Mohamed," she said, "I have the latest polling data. We're neck and neck with Larson in all the key swing states."
"That's good news," I replied, taking the papers from her.
"Have you finalized the details for tomorrow's town hall?"
"Yes," she said.
"We're going to be broadcasting live from Detroit. We'll also have satellite locations in Atlanta, Phoenix, and Portland. The audience members will be able to ask questions through video conferencing."
"Great," I said.
"I'll make sure to practice my opening remarks tonight. Let me know if there are any changes to the schedule."
The New President
Sarah nodded and left the room.
I looked over the polling data and made some notes on areas where we needed to improve our message.
Then I turned my attention to preparing for tomorrow's town hall. I spent the next few hours reviewing my opening remarks and practicing my delivery.
I also went over the list of questions that had been pre-submitted by audience members.
I wanted to make sure that I was prepared to answer them clearly and concisely.
The next morning, I arrived at the venue for the town hall early.
The production crew was setting up the stage and testing the sound and video equipment.
I took a seat at the table where I would be speaking from and reviewed my notes one last time.
At 7:00 PM, we went live.
The moderator introduced me and I gave my opening remarks.
I talked about our plan for healthcare reform and how it would benefit all Americans, not just those who could afford it.
Then we opened up the floor for questions from audience members at all four locations.
The first question came from a young woman in Atlanta who asked about our plan for education reform.
I explained that we wanted to make college more affordable and increase funding for public schools.
The next question came from a man in Phoenix who asked about our plan for immigration reform. I explained that we wanted to create a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and increase funding for border security.
The New President
The questions continued, with audience members asking about everything from climate change to economic inequality.
I did my best to answer each question clearly and concisely, using examples from my own life to illustrate my points.
