My girlfriend left me for a richer guy.
She was my whole world, and I was deeply hurt by her departure.
I had been a poor orphan my whole life, and my only dream was to become rich and live a happy life with the one I loved.
But life was not always kind to me.
I had to work multiple jobs just to survive, and even then, I was struggling to make ends meet.
My only solace was the lottery ticket I bought every week.
I kept dreaming that one day, my luck would change, and I would win the jackpot.
And then, one day, my dream came true.
I won the lottery jackpot, but not just any jackpot.
I was now a multi-Quadrillonaire, one of the two only families in the world that had that kind of money.
My new wealth changed everything for me.
I was no longer the poor orphan I once was, but a completely different person.
People looked at me differently now, and even my girlfriend tried to come back to me.
But I was not interested in her anymore.
I had already moved on and found someone new who truly loved me for who I am, not just my money.
My new girlfriend was beautiful, smart, and kind.
She was the complete opposite of my ex-girlfriend, who was selfish and shallow.
The New Billionaire Boss
I browse through luxury travel websites with my girlfriend, Sarah, sitting next to me on the leather couch in my living room.
Her eyes widen as she looks at all the different destinations we can go to.
"Wow, this is amazing," she says, pointing at a picture of a private island in the Maldives.
"I've always wanted to go there."
"We can go there," I say, clicking on the website to book our trip.
I enter all of our information and pay for the trip with my credit card.
We will be staying in an underwater suite with a personal chef and butler.
It's going to be an amazing vacation.
As I wait for the confirmation email to come through, my mind starts to wander.
I think about the group home where I spent most of my teenage years.
The New Billionaire Boss
It was a dingy, run-down place with hardly any food or clothes.
I had to share a room with five other kids, and we all had to fight for what little we had. "Hey, what's wrong?"
Sarah asks, noticing that I'm not paying attention to her anymore.
"I'm sorry," I say, turning back to her.
"I was just thinking about something."
"What were you thinking about?"
She asks curiously.
"Oh, nothing important," I say, not wanting to ruin our vacation plans by talking about my past.
But she can tell that something is bothering me.
"Tell me," she says gently.
"It might help you feel better."
I sigh and decide to tell her the truth.
"I was thinking about the group home where I used to live," I explain.
"It was a really tough place, and I don't like to think about it too much."
Sarah nods understandingly and puts her hand on my arm.
"I'm sorry," she says softly. "It's okay," I say, smiling at her.
"It's all in the past now. I'm just glad that I was able to escape it and make a better life for myself."
"Yes, me too," Sarah says, squeezing my arm gently.
I smile again and turn back to my computer screen.
The confirmation email has come through, and our vacation is all booked.
I print out the itinerary and hand it to Sarah so she can see all of the details.
She looks over it carefully and then smiles at me again.
"This is going to be amazing," she says excitedly.
"I can't wait."
As I watch her excitement, I realize that true happiness is finally within reach.
The New Billionaire Boss
After finalizing our Maldives booking, Sarah and I move to the balcony of my penthouse apartment.
The city lights stretch out before us, and I pour two glasses of champagne.
Sarah wraps her arms around my waist from behind, and I can feel her warmth against my back.
For the first time, I tell her about Christmas in the group home - how I'd watch other kids receive presents while I got nothing.
She listens intently, squeezing my hand when my voice cracks.
The New Billionaire Boss
Looking at our reflection in the window, I see what I never had before: a future worth living for.
I sit at my mahogany desk, hands trembling as I spread out the inheritance documents.
The numbers blur before my eyes - 200 quadrillion dollars, written in stark black ink.
My breath catches as I flip through pages listing private islands in the Caribbean, a fleet of mega yachts, and sprawling estates across six continents.
A gold Citibank card, emblazoned with a platinum K, slides from between the papers.
Sarah stands behind my chair, her hand squeezing my shoulder as I methodically read each line.
The New Billionaire Boss
The weight of this fortune feels surreal.
I pace back and forth in my home office, checking my watch every few minutes.
It's 8:45 AM on the West Coast, which means it's only 11:45 PM on the East Coast.
I have to wait another three hours and fifteen minutes before business hours start.
Sarah brings me a cup of coffee, but I can't hold the cup because my hands are still shaking.
At exactly 9 AM, I sit down at my desk and dial the number on the inheritance paperwork.
A receptionist answers on the first ring.
"Good morning, thank you for calling Kenmore and Associates," she says in a pleasant voice.
"May I help you with something?"
"Yes, please," I say, trying to keep my voice steady.
"My name is Kevin Kenmore, Jr., and I would like to speak with the senior partner who is handling the Kenmore estate."
The New Billionaire Boss
"One moment, please," she replies, putting me on hold.
I grip the gold card tightly in my hand, feeling its edges digging into my palm.
A few seconds later, a man's voice comes through the phone.
"Good morning, Mr. Kenmore," he says in a professional tone.
"My name is James Smith, and I am the senior partner here at Kenmore and Associates. How may I assist you today?" "Good morning, Mr. Smith," I say, forcing myself to breathe normally.
The New Billionaire Boss
"I am calling about the inheritance that was left to me by your client. I received the paperwork yesterday, and I would like to verify that this is real."
"Of course, Mr. Kenmore," he responds smoothly.
"I see," he says, his voice calm and collected.
"Of course, Mr. Kenmore. I would be happy to help you with that. Can you please read me the serial number on the gold card that was included with the paperwork?"
I lean back in my leather office chair, my heart pounding in my chest.
I look down at the gold card in my hand and read off the serial number.
"Yes, that is correct," he says after a brief pause.
"Now, can you please read me the first line of paragraph three on page five of the documentation?"
I quickly flip through the pages until I find the correct one.
"Okay, it says here: 'The Kenmore estate includes all assets and properties owned by Kevin Kenmore, Sr., including but not limited to real estate holdings, financial investments, and personal effects.'"
"That is correct," he says again.
"And finally, can you please confirm your date of birth?"
The New Billionaire Boss
I give him my date of birth, and he thanks me for verifying the information.
"Now that we have confirmed your identity, I would like to schedule a meeting with you to discuss how we can assist you in managing your inheritance," he continues.
"Would you be available to meet tomorrow morning at our offices in Kenmore Tower?" I check my watch and see that it's already 11:45 AM on the West Coast.
I agree to meet him at 9 AM tomorrow morning and write down the appointment time in my calendar.
My hands are still shaking as I hang up the phone.
Sarah is sitting on top of my desk, watching me with a concerned expression on her face.
"It's real," I say to her, my voice barely above a whisper.
"Kevin, that's incredible," Sarah says softly, her eyes wide with a mix of excitement and disbelief.
"But what are you going to do with all of this?"
I pause, looking out at the city skyline, and then back at her. "Honestly, Sarah, I think it's time we change the world."
