I stared at myself for a long time in the mirror, my eyes fixed on my reflection.
Black hair cascaded down to my waist and vibrant orange eyes shone brightly back at me.
At the moment, they were filled with frustration and desperation.
I was desperate to get my body back.
I couldn't take being transformed into a 15-year-old girl any longer than I already had been.
Turning my attention away from the mirror, I walked towards the window and pulled back the curtains.
The sky outside was dark and cloudy, with hints of purple and blue swirling together amidst the grey.
A strong gust of wind blew past, causing the trees in the backyard to sway and the windows to rattle slightly against their panes.
It looked like a storm was going to roll in soon, which only made me more anxious to get out into the city and search for the necklace's twin.
I knew that if I found it, I would be able to turn back into myself.
That was my one and only goal right now: to get my body back no matter what it took.
Walking away from the window, I went towards the door and stepped out into the hallway.
I didn't know where I was going to start looking, but I was determined to find some sort of lead.
The Necklace of Time
I walked down the stairs and out the front door, pulling it shut behind me.
The air outside was cool and crisp, with a hint of dampness that suggested rain was on its way.
I walked down the street, my backpack slung over my shoulder and my eyes scanning the buildings around me.
I knew that I was in a part of the city that was old and run down, but I didn't know exactly where I was or what sort of shops were nearby.
As I walked, I noticed that there were a lot of people around me, all rushing to and from different places.
They seemed to be in a hurry, but they were all moving at a slow pace.
I kept my head down and continued to move forward, not wanting to draw any attention to myself.
After a few minutes of walking, I saw a sign for an old library.
It was tucked away in a quiet corner of the street, surrounded by tall buildings that seemed to loom over it.
I walked towards the library, my backpack clutched tightly in my hands.
The Necklace of Time
The building looked like it had been there for centuries, with stone walls and a large clock tower that stood out against the surrounding buildings. Inside the library was dark and musty, with rows upon rows of books stretching up towards the ceiling.
The air was thick with the smell of old paper and leather bindings, and the sound of whispering voices filled the space.
I walked through the aisles, running my fingers over the spines of the books as I passed by them.
The titles were all foreign to me, but I could tell that they were all about magic and witchcraft.
I stopped in front of one shelf and began to scan through the books, looking for anything that might stand out to me.
As I searched, I noticed a figure watching me from across the room.
He was tall and thin, with glasses perched on his nose and a book clutched tightly in his hands.
He was standing behind one of the shelves, peeking out at me every few seconds before ducking back into hiding.
I tried to ignore him as I continued to search through the books, but his presence made me feel uneasy. After a few minutes of searching, I found a book that caught my eye.
It was bound in black leather and had strange symbols etched into its cover.
I pulled it off the shelf and opened it up, flipping through its yellowed pages.
The book appeared to be about magical artifacts, which seemed fitting given my current situation.
"You're looking for something specific, aren't you?" the man said, stepping out from behind the shelf.
I hesitated, clutching the book tighter. "Yes, I need to find a necklace's twin to reverse a spell."
He nodded knowingly, adjusting his glasses. "Then you should know, the twin isn't just an object—it's bound to someone else."
The Necklace of Time
I stared at him, unsure of what to say.
He was right, but I didn't know who the twin was bound to.
"I'm looking for any information I can find," I said finally.
He nodded again, his eyes glinting with curiosity.
"Follow me."
He led me to the front desk of the library, where a woman sat typing away on her computer.
She looked up as we approached and smiled at me, but her eyes lingered on the man behind me.
"Mr. Jenkins," she said, nodding in greeting.
"Miss Thompson," he replied, bowing slightly.
"I believe you're looking for some information?"
The Necklace of Time
I nodded, feeling a bit more at ease.
"Yes, I'm looking for anything you can find on magical artifacts."
The woman nodded and began to type away on her computer.
After a few minutes, she printed out a stack of papers and handed them to me.
"Here's everything I could find," she said.
"Thank you," I replied, taking the papers from her. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some other business to attend to," the man said, bowing slightly again.
I watched as he walked away, wondering who he was and what his business was.
But I pushed the thoughts aside and focused on the papers in front of me.
I had a lot of reading to do if I was going to find what I was looking for.
As I sat down at a table to read through the papers, I noticed that the man had returned and was standing beside me.
"Mr. Jenkins," he said, introducing himself with a slight bow.
"I own an antique shop just around the corner. If you're looking for anything specific, I might be able to help."
I hesitated for a moment before standing up and following him out of the library.
His shop was small and cramped, with shelves lining every wall that were packed full of dusty trinkets and strange artifacts.
There were vases and statues and even what looked like a taxidermied owl perched on one shelf. "What are you looking for?" Mr. Jenkins asked as he locked the door behind us.
I hesitated for a moment before pulling out my necklace and holding it up for him to see.
"Do you recognize this?"
He stepped closer and examined it carefully with his fingers before shaking his head.
"No, but it looks like it might be from an ancient civilization."
"Do you know where the twin is?"
The Necklace of Time
I asked hopefully.
