I am a depressed girl.
I don't like to be dependent on anyone.
I am self-reliant and like to live my life independently.
But depression doesn't leave me even for a second.
It makes me strong, but at the same time, it ruins my life.
I was walking in a quiet town when I saw a mysterious child sleeping on a stone.
He/She was wearing a beautiful patterned outfit, which was not enough for this cold weather.
Seeing him/her on the stone made my heart melt.
I thought of taking him/her to my home, but how could I?
I am a stranger to him/her.
Moreover, I don't even know his/her gender.
The Mysterious Child
I stood there, frozen, looking at the child's chest going up and down with every breath.
The stone beneath them looked cold and hard.
My hands clenched and unclenched as I tried to decide what to do.
A gust of wind came, rustling the thin clothes on the child, making them shiver slightly.
I took a step forward, then a step back.
The responsible thing would be to call the police or child services.
But something stopped me.
My phone felt heavy in my pocket.
For five more minutes, I fought with myself internally.
Then, with a resolve I didn't know I had, I gently picked up the child and carried them home.
The Mysterious Child
The child felt impossibly light in my arms as I hurried down the empty street, my heart pounding with every step.
Their small body radiated an unusual warmth despite the cold weather, and their peaceful expression didn't change even once.
I checked over my shoulder every few seconds, expecting someone to stop me, to ask why I was carrying an unconscious child.
The fabric of their thin clothes brushed against my jacket as I adjusted my grip.
Just as my arms were starting to tire, footsteps echoed from behind me.
The Mysterious Child
"Hey, what are you doing with that kid?" a voice called out, sharp and suspicious.
I turned to see a young man, his eyes narrowed and focused on the child in my arms.
"I... I found them sleeping on a stone," I stammered, my voice trembling slightly.
