Kazuki Kashima
and mischievous. Kazuki is known for being able to charm his way out of nearly any situation. He has a fascination with magic and the supernatural, leading him to create "Magic Cocktails" and even host "Mystery Nights" at his bar. He is approached by a young boy who asks for his help to summon a powerful demon.
First Child
and hopeful. The first child approaches Kazuki seeking his help to summon a powerful demon named "Black." His reason for wanting to summon the demon is that his sister is dying in a hospital, and he believes the demon can save her. His courage in facing a powerful entity showcases his unwavering spirit and desperation for those he loves.
Tsukasa Abami
and protective. Tsukasa often finds herself rolling her eyes at Kazuki's antics and is quick to scold him when he gets too reckless. Despite her tough exterior, she trusts Kazuki enough to let him experiment with new cocktails, showing there is more to her than meets the eye. Her demeanor suggests a complex personality beneath her seemingly straightforward facade.
A child came to me.
A random, completely unknown child.
He must have been about ten years old.
I was sitting at the bar, adjusting my tie and slicking back my hair.
It was just after closing time, and Tsukasa was cleaning up behind the counter.
The boy just walked in.
He looked around, his eyes wide with wonder, taking in the decorations of my bar.
I watched him closely, my head tilted to one side.
I had no idea what he wanted or who he was.
"Hello," I said finally, breaking the silence.
The boy looked up at me and gulped.
He seemed so nervous, I couldn’t help but smile at him.
"Hi," he said finally.
He took a deep breath and squared his shoulders.
"I need your help," he said, looking up at me with big, hopeful eyes.
"Okay," I said slowly, my mind racing with possibilities.
What could a child like that possibly need my help with?
Tsukasa seemed to sense my confusion and turned her attention to the boy as well.
He didn’t seem to notice her watching him.
"I want to summon a demon," he said finally, looking up at me with pleading eyes.
My eyebrows shot up in surprise.
I leaned back against the bar counter, studying the boy’s determined face.
Tsukasa’s rhythmic cleaning motions suddenly stopped.
The metallic clinking of glasses being arranged fell silent.
From the corner of my eye, I could see her skeptical expression, but I kept my focus on the child.
His small hands were clenched into fists at his sides, trembling slightly.
The dim lights of the bar cast long shadows across his face, highlighting the desperation in his eyes.
When I didn’t immediately respond, he took a step forward, his sneakers squeaking against the polished floor.
"Please," he added, his voice barely above a whisper.
"I heard you know about magic."
I nodded slowly, realizing this was the moment everything would change.
I leaned back in my chair, studying the boy’s determined face while absently rolling a cocktail stirrer between my fingers.
The dim bar lights cast long shadows across his features as he explained about his dying sister.
Behind me, Tsukasa’s rhythmic cleaning motions slowed to a halt.
I could sense her watching us, but I didn’t turn around.
Instead, I stood up and walked to the back wall of the bar, where a collection of occult items sat on dusty shelves.
My fingers trailed over various bottles and trinkets before stopping at a small wooden box.
I opened it, revealing an old brass amulet resting on a bed of velvet.
"Do you really think that can help her?" the boy asked, his voice trembling with a mix of hope and fear.
Tsukasa stepped forward, her eyes narrowing as she glanced at the amulet. "That’s not something to be taken lightly," she warned, her tone firm yet gentle.
I met the boy's gaze, feeling the weight of his desperation. "It’s a chance," I said softly, "but it comes with a price."
I placed the brass amulet on the counter between us, its dull metal catching the low light of the bar.
The boy reached for it with trembling fingers, but I kept my hand firmly on top of it.
Through the large windows that lined one wall of the bar, I noticed the sky outside darkening as if night were falling too quickly.
Tsukasa moved closer to the glass, her shoulders tense as she watched the clouds gathering unnaturally fast.
"It’s not a simple spell," I began explaining to the child.
"There are specific rituals involved."
Just then, a cold draft swept through the room, making the hanging glasses tinkle ominously.
The temperature dropped suddenly, and I felt the brass grow ice-cold beneath my palm.
The boy shivered, pulling his jacket tighter around himself.
"What kind of price?" he asked, his voice barely audible over the rising wind.
Tsukasa turned to me, her eyes filled with concern. "Are you sure about this?" she questioned, her voice steady despite the chill.
I released my grip on the amulet, sliding it across the counter to the boy.
He clutched it with his trembling fingers as thunder boomed outside, causing the lights to flicker ominously.
"First," I began, "we need to clear the space and gather the necessary items."
Tsukasa stepped away from the window and helped move tables and chairs out of the way while I retrieved a few items from behind the bar: three black candles, a piece of chalk, and an ornate dagger.
The wind outside grew stronger, causing the windows to rattle, but inside, an unsettling calmness settled over us.
The air was heavy with anticipation as I drew a large circle on the wooden floor using the chalk.
Inside this circle, I placed three points of a triangle with precise movements.
Then I lit each candle, positioning them at specific corners of the triangle.
Tsukasa stood beside me, her eyes fixed intently on the ritual taking place before us. The boy held the amulet tightly against his chest, watching with wide eyes as I finished preparing everything.
The wind outside howled and thunder crashed against the building, threatening to shake it apart.
But in here, a strange silence fell over us as I stepped into the center of the circle.
I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, focusing my mind on the words I had memorized long ago—the summoning words.
Tsukasa moved to stand near the boy, placing a protective hand on his shoulder as if ready to shield him from any unknown consequences.
I began to chant, my voice rising above the storm outside.
The candles flickered ominously as I spoke each word with deliberate precision.
The room seemed to vibrate with energy, as if something beyond our comprehension was awakening in response to my summons. Suddenly, just as I reached the climax of the ritual, a sharp gust of wind blew through the bar once more.
But unlike before, it didn’t disturb the candles or extinguish their flames.
The boy's eyes widened as he felt a warmth emanating from the amulet, contrasting with the chill in the air.
"Is this... normal?" he asked, his voice a mix of awe and fear.
Tsukasa tightened her grip on his shoulder, whispering, "It's starting; just stay calm and trust the process."
I gripped the ritual dagger tighter, feeling its weight in my hand as the temperature dropped further.
Frost began to crystallize on the bottles behind the bar, and the candle flames stretched unnaturally tall, casting wild shadows across the walls.
A deep rumbling built outside, making the foundation of the bar vibrate beneath our feet.
Tsukasa pulled the boy closer to her as the first window cracked, a spiderweb pattern spreading across the glass.
I continued the incantation, my voice growing hoarse with each passing moment.
The brass amulet in the boy's hands began to glow with an eerie purple light that illuminated his terrified expression.
When the windows finally exploded inward, I dove to shield them both from the spray of glass, feeling sharp fragments slice into my back.
The boy gasped, clutching the amulet tighter as if it were his lifeline.
"Is this supposed to happen?" he shouted over the chaos, his voice tinged with panic.
Tsukasa's eyes met mine, her expression a mix of determination and fear. "We have to finish this," she urged, her voice steady despite the storm raging around us.
Through the settling glass shards and dissipating smoke, I made out a tall, luminous form materializing in the ritual circle.
The figure's edges shimmered and shifted like northern lights, making it hard to focus on its exact shape.
My back stung from the cuts as I stood between it and the others.
The being's presence filled the room with an otherworldly calm, contrasting sharply with the chaos that had just erupted.
When it spoke, its voice didn't resonate through the air but echoed directly in our minds.
The boy stepped forward despite Tsukasa's restraining hand, drawn by the entity's peaceful aura.
"Why have you summoned me?" the being's voice echoed in our heads, gentle yet commanding.
The boy hesitated, then spoke with newfound courage, "We need your help to stop what's coming."
Tsukasa glanced at me, her eyes reflecting both hope and uncertainty. "Can we trust it?" she asked softly, barely moving her lips.
I stared at the being, its form rippling as if it were made of water.
It opened its mouth to speak again, but instead of words, a very human-like sneeze escaped.
Rainbow sparkles burst from its shifting body, cascading down like a shimmering waterfall.
The boy gasped and stepped back into Tsukasa, who gripped his shoulders protectively.
I raised my hand, catching some of the glitter; it felt warm against my skin and tingled like static electricity.
The demon's voice resonated in our heads again, this time with embarrassment rather than authority.
More sparkles fell as it tried to compose itself, coating the ritual circle, our clothes, and the bar floor in a layer of supernatural shimmer.
I stared at my hand as the cuts from the glass began to glow with a soft purple light.
The demon's casual gesture sent waves of warmth through my body, and I watched in amazement as the wounds sealed themselves, leaving no trace of injury.
Behind me, Tsukasa gasped, touching her now-healed forearm where a shard had grazed her.
The boy's eyes widened as he witnessed the supernatural healing, his grip on the amulet loosening slightly.
The demon maintained its gentle smile, seemingly pleased with our reactions, while more rainbow sparkles continued falling around us.
I stepped closer to the shimmering demon, my shoes crunching on broken glass despite the supernatural sparkles coating everything.
Its aurora-like form pulsed with a soft, ethereal glow as it regarded me calmly.
I bowed slightly, my movements cautious but respectful.
"Thank you for healing us," I said, my voice steady despite the surreal situation.
"We appreciate your kindness."
Behind me, Tsukasa kept her hands firmly on the boy's shoulders, her grip reassuring.
The demon inclined its head in acknowledgment, its shimmering form shifting as it moved.
"I am glad I could assist," it replied telepathically, its voice carrying a hint of amusement.
"But tell me, how did you manage to summon me?"
I hesitated, unsure how much to reveal.
"We used a ritual," I admitted cautiously.
"It was meant to bring a powerful ally."
The demon chuckled softly, sending more rainbow sparkles cascading around us.
"Ah, I see. Well, I suppose I fit the bill."
It regarded us thoughtfully for a moment before continuing.
"But tell me, what do you plan to do now that I'm here?"
Tsukasa stepped forward, her eyes fixed intently on the demon.
"We need your help," she said, her voice filled with determination.
"There's something coming for us, something dangerous."
The demon nodded thoughtfully, its shimmering form rippling as it considered our words. "I see," it said after a moment of silence.
"And what exactly is this danger that threatens you?"
The boy spoke up again, his voice filled with urgency.
"It's...it's something from another world," he stammered.
"A monster that can't be stopped."
The demon regarded him calmly, its expression unreadable.
"I see," it repeated.
"And how do you plan to stop this monster?"
I took a deep breath and stepped forward once more.
"We don't know yet," I admitted honestly.
"But we're willing to work together to find a way."
The demon regarded me thoughtfully for a moment before responding.
"I appreciate your willingness to cooperate," it said finally.
"But I must admit that I have my own interests at heart."
It paused again, considering its next words carefully.
"Tell me, what do you have to offer in exchange for my assistance?"
I hesitated for a moment before responding.
"We can offer you shelter and protection," I said finally.
"And anything else you might need."
The demon regarded me skeptically for a moment before responding.
The demon's eyes glinted with a knowing light, and it replied, "Then let us begin."
