You might be curious about how I came to live on land.

Well, it's simple.

My mother and I moved to the apartment building on the beach exactly three months ago.

We could not have chosen a better place to live, as we had to bathe every day to keep our mermaid trait from showing up.

If we failed to do so, our legs would revert back into a tail, and then our secret would be revealed.

The first time I met Allen was in the laundry room.

He lived in the apartment next to mine.

He asked me for detergent, which I didn't use, so I told him I couldn't help him.

The second time I met him was also in the laundry room.

He was looking for a washing machine that he could use, as his was broken.

Mine happened to be empty, so I told him he was welcome to use it.

The third time I met him was outside my apartment door.

He happened to see me struggling with the stuck door and came to help.

After a while, he succeeded in opening it for me.
