Ling Chen
She is a young girl from a wealthy family in the same village as Ling Wong. She is intelligent, lively, and sociable. Ling Chen loves telling stories and sharing knowledge with her friend Ling Wong. She briefly mentions knowing something magical about the village but does not reveal more. Her friendship with Ling Wong inspires their imaginative adventures and fuel their curiosity about the world around them.
The Mysterious Stone
It is a mysterious stone containing a glowing crystal that Ling Wong finds in a river. It is mysterious, magical, and captivating. The stone has an otherworldly aura that intrigues Ling Wong, prompting her to keep it secret and explore its mysterious properties. As she touches the crystal, she experiences vivid visions and feels an unexpected sense of power and wonder, hinting at significant potential beyond mere fantasy.
I was walking by the river and saw something shiny in the water.
I picked it up and found a stone with a crystal inside.
The crystal was glowing, and I could not stop looking at it.
When I got home, I showed it to my friend Ling Chen.
She said it might be magical, but she was not sure.
She told me stories about how people found magical things in the river and what happened to them.
I wanted to know if my stone was magical, so I asked her how to find out.
She said she did not know but would ask her family.
The next day, Ling Chen came to my house and told me that she knew something magical about our village but would not tell me what it was.
She said that it was not for me to know right now but maybe someday I would find out.
I was frustrated because I wanted to know what it was.
I asked her to tell me where I could find out, but she would not say.
I sneak out of my house at dawn, carrying the stone wrapped in a silk cloth.
The morning mist hangs low over the river as I retrace my steps to where I found the crystal.
Kneeling by the water's edge, I unwrap the stone and hold it close to the surface.
The crystal's glow intensifies, casting strange patterns on the rippling water.
As I examine the riverbank, I notice something different about it.
There are marks in the mud that look like ancient characters.
I lean closer to examine them, and the stone pulses with an urgent light.
"Ling Chen, these marks—do you recognize them?" I call out, hoping she followed me.
She steps out from behind a tree, eyes wide with disbelief. "Those are the symbols of the River Guardians; my grandmother spoke of them."
"River Guardians?" I echo, feeling the weight of her words settle in my chest.
I trace the symbols with my finger, and the crystal emits an intense blue light.
Ling Chen grabs my arm, her voice trembling with warning.
"Be careful, I don't know what they mean."
But I can't stop.
The symbols seem to pull at me, drawing my hand along their ancient lines.
As I complete the final stroke, the crystal's glow spreads across the stone's surface.
The rough exterior begins to burn away like paper in a flame, revealing a smooth surface beneath.
The surface ripples and shifts, etching itself with lines and marks that grow into intricate patterns.
Ling Chen gasps beside me as we watch the transformation unfold.
The patterns deepen and spread, taking shape as familiar landmarks along our village's river.
