I woke up early in the morning with a big smile on my face.
Today was the day I would go and play with Felix, my fox friend.
I had already gathered some berries and roots the day before and put them in a basket.
I would take this basket along with me so that we could have a snack when we felt hungry.
I knew that Squirrel would also be there to watch over me.
He was given the task of keeping an eye on me whenever I went into the woods.
He didn’t like to come too close to me, though.
He kept a distance from me and watched over me from afar.
I didn’t know why he did this, but I was just glad that he was there to look after me.
Sometimes, I would catch him looking at me with a flirtatious glint in his eyes, but I knew that he didn’t mean anything serious by it.
He just liked to tease me and make my heart flutter.
I knew that I had a crush on him, but I didn’t know how to tell him about it.
I hoped that one day, I would be brave enough to tell him about it.
As I walked into the woods, the scent of different flowers and trees hit my nostrils.
The woods were beautiful and enchanting.
I loved going into them whenever I had the chance.
The Lost Rabbit
I stop at a small clearing where patches of wildflowers grow in abundance.
The morning dew still clings to their petals, making them sparkle in the sunlight filtering through the canopy above.
Purple violets and yellow buttercups create a natural carpet across the forest floor.
I set my basket down and kneel to examine them more closely.
From the corner of my eye, I notice Squirrel perched on a low branch nearby, pretending not to watch me.
His tail twitches occasionally, betraying his interest in my actions.
I reach out to touch one of the delicate petals, marveling at its softness.
A particularly striking red poppy catches my attention, its bright color standing out amidst the sea of purple and yellow.
I gently pluck it from the ground and tuck it behind my ear, feeling a slight blush rise to my cheeks.
Squirrel’s tail twitches again, and I can’t help but wonder what he thinks of my little gesture.
The Lost Rabbit
I stand up from the wildflowers, brushing the dirt from my knees.
The morning dew has soaked through my dress, leaving damp patches on my legs.
I hear rustling in the branches above as Squirrel shifts position, moving closer to keep a better eye on me.
My ears perk up at the sound of twigs snapping in the distance.
I freeze, my paw still touching the poppy behind my ear.
The forest grows unnaturally quiet - even the morning birds have stopped singing.
I clutch my basket tighter, the woven handle creaking under my grip.
"Did you hear that?" I whisper, glancing up at Squirrel, who now looks alert and tense.
"Yes," he replies, his voice low and cautious, "I think someone else is in the woods."
"Should we hide or see who it is?" I ask, my heart pounding with a mix of fear and curiosity.
