I was felling trees when I found it.
The sun was low in the sky, casting a golden light over the pine trees and the river that ran through them.
I’d been working all day, but wasn’t tired.
I was used to hard work, and liked being out in the woods.
I swung my axe back and forth, biting into the wood, cutting deeper with each strike.
The tree creaked, swayed in the breeze, and finally fell, crashing into the brush.
I wiped my brow and went to look at where it had fallen.
The tree lay across a small stream that fed into the river, its trunk partially submerged in the water.
I decided to leave it, figuring I could come back for it later with some help.
As I turned to walk away, I saw something glinting in the light.
It was half buried in the ground, partially covered by leaves and branches.
I knelt down to get a closer look and brushed away the debris.
The object was metallic, with strange symbols etched into its surface.
They seemed to dance in the fading light, as if they had some sort of power or magic to them.
I reached out and touched the object cautiously.
It felt cool to the touch and seemed to be made of some sort of brass or copper.

I crouch down beside the mysterious object, my knees sinking into the damp earth.
The metal feels strange against my calloused hands - heavier than brass should be, yet smooth like polished glass.
Twigs snap under my boots as I shift my weight, trying to get a better grip.
The device is about the size of a cooking pot, with interlocking gears visible along its edges.
As I lift it, water droplets trickle down its surface, catching the last rays of sunlight.

The symbols seem to pulse faintly, making my fingers tingle.
"Do you think it's safe to bring that back to the cabin?" Jake's voice broke the silence, startling me.
"I don't know," I replied, still mesmerized by the object. "But it feels like it wants us to."
"Maybe it's a sign," Jake suggested, his eyes narrowing with a mix of curiosity and caution.
Ignoring his worried expression, I carefully wrapped the device in my worn leather coat.
The metal remained oddly warm against my skin as I secured it.
Jake helped me gather the scattered woodcutting tools, keeping a wary distance from the wrapped bundle.
The sun dipped below the treeline, casting long shadows through the pines.
As we began our trek back along the muddy path, I couldn't help but feel a strange energy emanating from the device.
My arms strained under its unexpected weight.
The brass surface occasionally pulsed through the leather, each time sending that same strange tingling sensation up my arms.
Jake walked silently beside me, his gaze fixed on the forest floor.
"Do you think it could be some kind of ancient artifact?" Jake finally asked, breaking the tension.
"Maybe," I said, glancing at him. "But whatever it is, I have a feeling it’s been waiting for us."
