MidReal Story

The Little Bat Baby

Scenario:A heartwarming story about a young 23-year-old woman named Hannah who’s very different from most girls. She’s been a tomboy all her life, she hates anything girly (dresses, high heels, purses, makeup, etc), and absolutely loves things that stereotypical guys like, including T-shirts, comfy pants, sneakers, sports, and especially dinosaurs, animals, and outer space. Hannah’s favorite animals are dogs, penguins, bats, foxes, lizards, all crocodilians, most insects, and spiders. The biggest thing everyone knows about Hannah is that all her life, she’s had a good bit of social anxiety and is very much an introvert, but her closest family and friends sometimes gently encourage her to at least try going to different social events, but if it’s just too much for her, that is perfectly okay. She’s also never shown interest in finding love, and she’s perfectly happy with that. Hannah has always had a bit of a rounded belly ever since she was a baby, but it’s never been detrimental to her health at all, and she genuinely and positively loves her body just the way God made it, and she doesn’t care what anyone says about it. She also has a sensory disorder that gives her a heightened sense of hearing, smell, and touch, and also makes her a bit of a texture-based eater when it comes to food, along with a strong case of social anxiety, which gets very flared up when she’s in a large, loud crowd at a party. She’s always gotten along with all the young boys she grew up with in town too, just one of the guys. She has a few friends who are girls too, who love her the way she is as well as her family, but there are some girls that love to bully her because she’s so different. She even has a few family members who keep trying to almost force her into finding a boyfriend by constantly trying to set her up on blind dates, and Hannah absolutely DESPISES that, especially because that’s one of the biggest triggers for her anxiety. Something very unique about Hannah is that, along with being a tomboy, she’s always had a nurturing side to her, and she genuinely feels very maternal towards baby animals and sometimes human babies too, and her biggest supporters in life are her family, her mother Dr. Linda (a very, very good doctor), her father Thomas (a seasoned paleontologist), and her older sister Jenny (the social butterfly of the family). Recently, Hannah and her family have discovered that she has a very unique ability: she can make herself become pregnant with any kind of little baby she simply wishes for (human, animal, mythical, etc), and Hannah is very stunned at first, but very happy that she can become a mother to her own baby in her own way, and her family is so supportive of her. Now, Hannah is pregnant with the first ever little baby she’s ever wished for—a tiny male baby bat pup, who is autistic and can actually speak to her straight from the womb—and she cannot wait to meet her very tiny baby son, and she’s recently become very protective of her belly as it gets bigger, and she’s really avoiding going to any parties right now because she just doesn’t feel comfortable or safe at a big loud party with a frightened little baby bat inside her, so she’s been trying to stay home most nights now, and her family lovingly understands.

My name is Hannah, and I am 23 years old.
I am very different from most girls.
I don’t like anything girly.
I don’t like dresses, high heels, purses, makeup, or anything else that’s typical of a girl my age.
I hate it all.
On the other hand, I love T-shirts, comfy pants, sneakers, sports, dinosaurs, animals, outer space, and almost anything else that’s typical of a guy my age.
I like watching TV and playing video games just as much as the next guy, and I’ve spent countless hours playing Call of Duty with my lifelong school friends who are all guys.
I’ve never been one to follow what society considers ‘proper’ for my sex.
I am a tomboy and proud of it.
One thing that makes me stand out even more is my love for all kinds of animals.
Dogs are my absolute favorite animals in the world.
I can’t get enough of them!
Penguins are next on my list.
They’re just so cute and funny!
Bats are also super cool.
Foxes are gorgeous and clever.
Lizards are amazing little creatures that always make me smile.
All crocodilians—crocodiles, alligators, caimans, and gharials—are incredible animals that deserve so much respect.
Most insects are awesome too—beetles, butterflies, moths, praying mantis, ladybugs, and fireflies are all favorites of mine.
And last but not least, I love spiders!
The Little Bat Baby
I pace around my bedroom, running my hands over my swollen belly and rubbing gently in an attempt to soothe the restless bat pup inside.
The sound of car doors slamming shut outside makes me wince.
Mom and Jenny are here to pick me up for dinner at the new restaurant downtown.
My enhanced hearing picks up the click of Jenny’s heels on the porch, followed by the familiar creak of the wooden steps.
I can hear their voices as they approach the front door, chatting and laughing.
I rifle through my dresser drawers, tossing aside old t-shirts and sports bras, searching for that one specific item that I desperately need.
Check under the bed, behind the computer desk, but it’s nowhere to be found.
My heart races faster as I hear Mom’s key slide into the lock of the front door.
Without those headphones, the restaurant's noise and chatter will be overwhelming.
I drop to my knees, crawling into the closet to search the floor.
The Little Bat Baby
My hands shake as I push aside shoeboxes, my eyes welling up with tears.
The bat pup stirs restlessly inside me, sensing my rising panic.
"Mama's scared," I whisper, pressing my palm against my belly.
Through my heightened hearing, I can make out Mom's footsteps approaching my bedroom—the slight squeak of her rubber-soled work shoes giving her away.
A small sob escapes my throat as I knock over a stack of comic books.
The Little Bat Baby
Mom appears in the doorway, takes in the mess, and immediately starts checking my nightstand drawers.
"Hannah, sweetie," she says softly, reaching behind my lamp.
She pulls out my headphones, tangled in the cord.
