An enimies to lover tale about a girl who is kind to Everyone but has a traumatic past causing severe Depression and a pathalogical liar hiding his true feelings.
Lily Carter
compassionate, and resilient. Despite her past trauma, she remains caring towards others, including her roommate's boyfriend, Ethan. Her interactions with Ethan are tense due to his initial hostility, but she tries to maintain a positive attitude. Lily's relationships are strained by Ethan's behavior and her roommate's lack of understanding.
Ethan Thompson
Sarah. He is initially hostile, manipulative, and secretive. Ethan harbors hidden feelings for Lily but expresses them through aggression and lies. His actions cause tension in the household and lead to misunderstandings with Lily. Despite his harsh exterior, he struggles with his own emotions and insecurities.
Sarah Mitchell
trusting, and oblivious to the tensions between Ethan and Lily. Sarah often leaves Lily alone with Ethan without realizing the strain it causes. Her relationship with Ethan appears strong but lacks depth as she fails to notice his true feelings for Lily.
I am a kind, caring, and patient person.
Not only with my family and friends but with everyone I meet.
That's why everyone likes me.
But what I hide is that I have depression.
It started when my exboyfriend cheated on me and left me because I was too possessive and controlling.
After he left, I realized how much I depended on him emotionally and that caused my depression to start.
My name is Lily Carter.
I am in my second year of college.
I live with my roommate, Sarah Mitchell, who is a sweet girl and doesn't know that I have depression.
She dates Ethan Thompson, who is the biggest jerk.
When they started dating, he didn't like me at all and made Sarah dislike me too.
But Sarah is a good girl; she didn't listen to him and remained a good roommate to me.
After a long day of classes, I am back at the apartment earlier than usual.
I have just one more class on Fridays, which is in the morning.
So after that, I came back to the apartment.
I am walking towards our kitchen when I hear Ethan's voice through the partially open door.
He is talking to Sarah.
I stop at the door and hear him telling her how pathetic I am.
He is mimicking my friendly greetings and laughing about how fake I am to everyone.
My hand freezes on the doorknob as Sarah giggles along with him.
"Maybe she is desperate for attention. Maybe that's why she acts like this. She has no one in her life. Her ex left her because she was too possessive and controlling," he says, making fun of me.
My chest tightens at his words; they are the same words my ex had said to me before he cheated on me. I step back, bumping into the hallway table.
"Sarah, why are you laughing?" I ask, stepping into the room with a shaky voice.
"Lily, I didn't mean to—it's just that Ethan was being ridiculous," Sarah stammers, her face turning crimson.
"Ridiculous or not, those words hurt, and I thought you understood that," I reply, my eyes meeting hers with a mix of betrayal and disappointment.
Ethan stands there with his hands in his pockets, not saying anything.
His smirk is gone, and now he has a blank expression on his face.
My hands shake as I grab my keys from the counter.
I don't want to be in this room anymore; the walls are closing in on me, suffocating me.
Sarah reaches for my arm, but I jerk away from her touch, knocking over a glass in the process.
It shatters on the floor, making me flinch.
Without looking back at them, I push past them and out of the kitchen.
The hallway stretches before me like an endless tunnel.
I fumble with the door handle, my vision blurring as I stumble out of the apartment.
I run blindly down the stairs, not stopping until I reach the bottom.
I nearly fall twice, but manage to catch myself.
Tears stream down my face, blurring my vision.
I burst through the apartment complex's exit and into the cold autumn air.
I keep moving, my legs carrying me without a thought until I reach a small courtyard surrounded by towering buildings.
There's only one thing in this courtyard: a worn wooden bench.
My legs give out and I collapse onto the splintered seat.
I wrap my arms around myself, trying to stop the shaking that has taken over my body.
The only sound in the empty space is my ragged breathing until a loud meow cuts through the quiet.
I look down to see a scraggly orange cat staring up at me.
I blink through my tears and study the cat.
Its fur is matted and dirty, but it has a bright orange color.
It looks like it's been living on the streets for a while.
The cat watches me cautiously as I extend my hand.
It sniffs at my fingers, then starts rubbing against them.
I pet the cat's head and it starts purring loudly, drowning out the sound of my shaky breaths.
My other hand wipes at my wet cheeks as I scratch behind its ears.
The cat jumps up onto the bench beside me, pressing its warm body against my leg.
I run my hand along its back, feeling how dirty and rough its fur is.
Despite its appearance, it's a very affectionate cat.
Unlike Sarah, who pretended to be my friend but was just using me to get to Ethan.
I stroke along its back again and feel something catch on my fingers.
I look down to see tangles of hair in its fur.
