It was the year 2050.
The world was in chaos.
The evil wizard Zorro and his army, the Black Order, had threatened to destroy the world.
But then one day, powerful wizard Arthur Silvermist showed up and saved the world from Zorro and his army.
He defeated Zorro and destroyed the Black Order.
But before he died, he told everyone that Zorro would come back again someday.
He also said that there was a 17-year-old chosen one who would defeat Zorro's future army.
But he didn't tell anyone who the chosen one was.
I'm Jacob Green, a seventeen year old boy with short brown hair, green eyes, wearing a green jacket, white shirt, jeans, and green shoes.
I was walking home from the library with my best friend Libby Charles when I thought about what happened years ago and wondered who the chosen one really was.
As I walked into my house, I saw my mom watching the news on TV.
"Mom, how was your day?" I asked.
"It was fine, dear. How was yours?"
"It was fine too," I replied.
"What's on the news?"
I asked while sitting down next to my mom on the couch.
"The news is talking about Zorro," she said.
"Zorro? The evil wizard who threatened to destroy the world years ago?" I asked.
"Yes," she said.
"Is he back?"
I leaned forward on the couch and watched the news report.
They were showing footage of black smoke rising from different locations around the city.
The reporter was saying that these mysterious occurrences started three days ago, always at midnight.
My mom gripped the remote tighter as they showed security camera footage of dark figures moving within the smoke.
The images reminded me of old photographs I had seen of Zorro's Black Order soldiers.
A chill ran down my spine when they showed the latest incident - black smoke emerging from an empty parking lot last night.
The reporter announced that authorities would implement a citywide curfew, starting tonight.
"Jacob, do you remember what Arthur Silvermist said about the chosen one?" my mom asked, her voice trembling slightly.
"Yeah, he said there was someone who would defeat Zorro's future army," I replied, feeling a strange knot forming in my stomach.
She turned to me, her eyes filled with a mixture of fear and determination. "Jacob, I think that someone might be you."
I sat there frozen, my eyes wide with disbelief.
"Me? The chosen one?"
I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
My mom nodded slowly, her gaze unwavering.
"Yes, Jacob. I believe you are the chosen one."
She paused for a moment, collecting her thoughts.
"Arthur Silvermist gave me something before he died," she said, reaching under the coffee table and pulling out an old wooden box.
"It's a journal. He told me to give it to the chosen one when the time came."
She opened the box and handed me the journal.
It was bound in worn leather, adorned with intricate symbols that seemed to shimmer in the light.
I took it from her, feeling an unexpected surge of energy coursing through my fingers.
As I opened the journal, I saw pages filled with magical symbols and notes written in a language I couldn't understand.
Libby, our family's cat, jumped onto my lap and began purring softly as she looked at the journal with me.
"Mom, what does this say?"
I asked, pointing to a page filled with strange markings.
She leaned closer to examine it more closely.
"It's a spell," she explained.
"It seems to be a protection spell. Maybe it's meant to protect you from harm."
I nodded, taking in her words.
Suddenly, Libby let out a soft mew and pointed at a diagram on the next page.
It appeared to be a simple drawing of a person surrounded by a circle of light. "What is this?" she asked curiously.
My mom studied the diagram for a moment before responding.
"I think this might be a way to channel your magical energy," she said gently.
"You see, Jacob, as the chosen one, you have special powers within you. This diagram could help you tap into those powers."
I looked at the diagram again, trying to understand its significance.
The room suddenly grew darker as if night had fallen prematurely.
But when I glanced out the window, I saw that it was still afternoon - the sun was shining brightly in the sky!
Confused and worried about what was happening around us, I turned back to my mom for answers.
"Mom... why is it getting dark outside? It's still daytime!"
I exclaimed anxiously.
She frowned deeply as she looked out into our backyard where shadows seemed to be moving strangely too...
I flip through the pages of Silvermist's journal, scanning the cryptic symbols and illustrations.
My mom watches intently from across the room, her eyes filled with a mix of curiosity and concern.
As I turn the page, a detailed sketch catches my attention - an ornate silver necklace with intricate runes etched along its chain.
The accompanying text describes a powerful protection charm that shields its wearer from harm.
My fingers trace the drawing as I read the description.
"Mom, look at this," I say, pointing to the illustration.
She walks over to examine it more closely.
"That's quite an interesting piece of jewelry," she remarks.
"Do you think it's real?"
"I'm not sure," I reply, "but it looks like something out of a fantasy novel."
As we continue to study the journal, my mom points to a paragraph on the next page.
"Jacob, this part explains how Silvermist created these enchanted necklaces for his most trusted allies. They were meant to protect them from dark magic."
I nod thoughtfully, taking in her words.
Suddenly, my mom reaches into her shirt and pulls out a silver necklace that matches the illustration in the journal.
The metal gleams in the light as she holds it up for me to see. "Arthur gave this to me years ago," she says softly.
"He told me to keep it safe until you were ready."
Her hands tremble slightly as she unclasps the necklace and gently places it around my neck.
