Gerald didn't mind about being a reverse driver for them as he wanted to respect his childhood hero until Karl Linger gave away his second seat to Gerald as he wanted to give him a chance to formula 1 and retired from F1 completely to become an engine assistant for the team

It was 2001, I was in Albert Park ready to test for Minardi F1 team.
They were looking for a driver to replace Nigel Gervall, the english driver who had been in Formula 1 for 20 years.
He had driven for Lotus and Benetton before joining Minardi.
