Every morning at 7:30 AM, I wake up and eat my breakfast.
At 8:30 AM, I go to work.
At 12:00 PM, I eat my lunch.
At 5:30 PM, I finish my work and go home.
At 6:30 PM, I eat my dinner.
I don't know why, but everyone follows this schedule.
We all rise at 7:30 AM to eat our breakfast, which is a precooked meal distributed from a centralized source.
We're not allowed to ask any questions about what we're eating or why we're eating at this time.
We can't even leave our homes, much less talk to other people.
All we can do is watch the news on our terminals, and the anchors always tell us the same thing: "The government is working for our benefit."
But we can't see the faces of the anchors; they are always hidden behind masks.
We don't know their names; we can only hear their voices.
All we can do is guess whether they are male or female based on their voices.
The Last Days
I stare at the terminal screen, its blue glow casting shadows in my small apartment.
The news anchor drones on about increased productivity quotas, but something feels off today.
My finger hovers over the power button.
A slight tremor runs through my hand - I've never turned it off during mandatory viewing hours before.
The urge to rebel grows stronger.
I press the button firmly.
The screen goes black.
The sudden silence is deafening.
I sit motionless in my chair, heart pounding, waiting for alarms or security forces.
Nothing happens.
The Last Days
Only the soft hum of the air filtration system fills the room.
My heart pounds in my chest as the terminal screen suddenly flickers back to life.
Harsh blue light fills the room, and large red numbers appear on the screen: 10, 9, 8...
Below them, a message flashes: "RESUME VIEWING OR FACE IMMEDIATE CORRECTION."
I grip the edge of my chair tightly, my muscles tensed.
The countdown continues relentlessly.
7, 6, 5...
Sweat drips down my neck as I stare at the screen.
My fingers hover over the power button again.
The humming from the air system grows louder, taking on an ominous tone.
4, 3...
The Last Days
I glance at the door, expecting enforcers to burst in at any moment.
2...With trembling hands, I press the power button once more.
