一个中国的投行从业人员获得了神奇的力量,他能够控制一个IPO项目的成败
Li Wei
analytical, and determined. Li Wei discovers he has the power to control the success of IPO projects, which he uses to his advantage. He navigates complex financial deals and office politics while keeping his power a secret. His relationships with colleagues are strained, particularly with his rival Chen Feng. Despite challenges, Li Wei remains focused on his career and personal growth.
Chen Feng
manipulative, and ambitious. Chen Feng often clashes with Li Wei over projects and promotions. He is suspicious of Li Wei's sudden success and tries to uncover his secret. Despite his rivalry with Li Wei, Chen Feng is respected for his experience and knowledge in the industry.
Wang Mei
naive, and eager to learn. Wang Mei admires Li Wei's abilities and seeks guidance from him. She struggles with the demands of her job but remains committed to her career goals.
Suddenly I realized that I had a marvelous power.
Just like the ideas in the mass market books.
With this power, I could dictate the success or failure of an IPO project.
Just like the God.
All I needed to do was to will it in my mind.
Then the project would be approved.
Or it would be disapproved.
As simple as that.
I was puzzled at first.
I never believed those stupid stories about having powers.
But now I had to believe it.
The facts were right in front of me.
I tried several times.
And each time the result was the same.
If I willed a project to be approved, it would be approved.
If I willed a project to be disapproved, it would be disapproved.
It was absolutely accurate.
No exceptions.
With this power, my career as an investment banker was smooth and successful.
I became the top banker in my company.
My projects were all approved one by one.
My clients were all satisfied with me.
My company was proud of me.
Today was another successful day.
Another IPO project was approved.
I sat in my dimly lit office, watching Wang Mei organizing the project documents at her desk.
She was a young girl, diligent and hardworking.
She had been with me for several months now.
She was very good at her job.
Without her, I wouldn't have achieved so much.
But she didn't know the truth.
She thought all the successes were because of my hard work and expertise.
I watched her carefully sorting the papers into folders, putting them in order, binding them with rubber bands...
Her hands were trembling from exhaustion.
It was already late at night.
The whole building was quiet except for us two.
I felt a pang of guilt in my heart.
I had been keeping this secret from her for so long.
She deserved to know the truth.
But I couldn't tell her.
I couldn't tell anyone. She finished sorting the papers and stood up, stretching her arms and yawning.
Then she walked over to my desk, carrying the final report in her hands.
"Mr. Li, here is the final report."
She smiled at me as she handed me the report.
Her smile was so genuine and innocent...
My throat tightened as I looked at her eyes, which were full of trust and respect...
I opened my mouth to speak...
But then Chen Feng's shadow passed by my office door...
"Wang Mei, there's something I need to tell you," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
She looked at me, puzzled. "Is everything alright, Mr. Li?"
Chen Feng paused at the door, his eyes narrowing as he glanced between us. "Are you finally going to tell her the truth, Li?"
I gestured to Wang Mei to close the door.
Chen Feng's shadow moved away, but I knew he was still there, watching us.
Wang Mei sat down across my desk, her eyes tired and confused.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down.
"Mei, you know how our company has been doing well in the past few years?"
I asked her.
She nodded, "Yes, Mr. Li. We've been doing great. You've been working very hard."
I shook my head, "It wasn't just because of hard work."
She looked at me, puzzled.
"Then what was it?"
I gestured to the project files on my desk.
"These projects... They weren't just successful because of our hard work."
I arranged the files into order, pointing to each one of them.
"This project... This one... And this one... They were all approved because I willed them to be approved."
Wang Mei looked at me, her eyes wide with disbelief.
"What do you mean, Mr. Li?"
I took a deep breath.
"I have a power..."
Chen Feng's shadow moved behind the frosted glass door again.
He was shuffling closer to eavesdrop on our conversation.
I paused, watching Wang Mei's face change from confusion to concern.
I got up and walked over to my computer.
I opened the latest IPO project that we had been working on.
It was a tech startup that had questionable financials.
The CSRC had already rejected it once before, and I had to get it approved this time.
"Watch this," I said, opening the approval portal.
I concentrated my mind, willing the status to change.
The screen flickered, and the "Pending" status turned into "Approved" right in front of our eyes.
Wang Mei gasped, stumbling backward.
The door creaked open, and Chen Feng's shadow disappeared.
She approached the screen cautiously, touching it as if to make sure what she was seeing was real.
She turned to me, her hands trembling, whispering, "How did you do that?"
I leaned back in my chair, watching her fingers tracing the "Approved" status on the screen.
The office was silent except for the hum of the computer and her shallow breathing.
She turned to me, her eyes wide with fear and awe.
"I discovered this power six months ago," I said.
"It was during a deal that failed. I was so angry and frustrated... I willed it to be approved, and it happened."
I opened another pending project on the screen.
"Watch this."
I concentrated my mind again, willing the status to change.
The screen flickered, and another "Approved" appeared.
Suddenly, there was a noise in the hallway.
Wang Mei jumped, grabbing my arm tightly.
"Mr. Li, this is... unbelievable," she whispered, her voice trembling with a mix of fear and excitement.
I nodded, feeling the weight of my secret finally shared. "But with this power comes responsibility, Mei. We have to be careful."
She glanced at the door where Chen Feng had been lurking. "Does anyone else know about this?"
I shook my head, "Only you."
She let go of my arm, walking to the window and looking out at the city lights.
The office was dimly lit, except for the computer screen still showing the "Approved" status.
I sat in my chair, watching her back as she processed what she had just witnessed.
After a long moment, she turned to me.
Her expression was a mix of fear and fascination.
She opened her mouth to say something, but then footsteps sounded in the hallway, growing louder.
We both froze, watching the door handle turn.
