Logan Taylor Hampton
"Hey Steven, do you want to go get some of the new food at the warp pad?"
I asked him.
"LOGAN!"
He yelled at me.
"What? Why are you yelling?"
I questioned him.
"Because I told you a million times not to talk to me when I is studying. You know I has to get good grades in school."
He said, pouting.
"Fine whatever, I am going to get some of the new food myself."
I said, walking off towards the warp pad.
As I was walking, I saw Garnet sitting on a rock, watching me.
She always did that.
She would watch over me and Steven.
Making sure we did not get into any trouble.
"Hey Garnet, what is up?"
I asked her.
"Nothing Logan, just watching over you and Steven."
She told me.
"Alright, well I am going to go get some of the new food the Crystal Gems just invented."
I said to her.
"Be careful Logan."
She warned me.
"I will."
I said, approaching the warp pad.
I glanced back to make sure Garnet was not following me.
The new food at the warp pad was just an excuse.
I had been planning this trip to Homeworld for weeks.
I pulled out the warp whistle I had stolen from the Crystal Gems' storage room and put it in my mouth.
My hands were shaking a little bit.
After studying the Crystal Gems' star maps, I knew exactly which coordinates to input into the warp pad.
The warp pad activated with a flash of light, and I materialized in a massive crystalline hallway.
The architecture towered above me, everything tinted in shades of blue.
My heart nearly stopped as I heard the click of heels against crystal floors.
I turned to face the sound, knowing there was no turning back now.
I pressed myself against the wall, trying to blend in, as the footsteps grew louder.
A figure emerged from the darkness, illuminated by the blue glow of the hallway.
It was her.
Yellow Diamond herself.
Her angular face was imposing, her golden eyes glowing with an otherworldly intensity.
She halted her approach abruptly as she laid eyes on me.
Her gaze narrowed, her golden eyes widening slightly before narrowing into a stern glare.
Something flickered across her features, an emotion I couldn't quite decipher.
But it was gone before I could grasp it.
"A human? Here?"
Her voice echoed through the corridor, commanding attention and demanding answers.
Despite the towering presence she exuded, I noticed her fingers twitch ever so slightly as she took a step closer to me.
"What are you doing on Homeworld, and how did you get past the guards?"
Her voice was sharp, but there was a hint of curiosity beneath the authority.
"I... I came to find out why you sent those ships to Earth," I stammered, trying to keep my voice steady.
She regarded me for a moment, then turned on her heel.
Without another word, she strode off down the corridor, leaving me to follow.
I trailed behind her, my footsteps echoing off the polished floor as we wound our way through the crystal corridors.
She moved with purposeful strides, her long legs eating up the distance.
I had to nearly jog to keep up with her pace.
The hallway eventually opened into a vast chamber, lined with holographic displays flickering with star maps and ship trajectories.
Yellow Diamond halted at a control panel, causing me to stumble back to avoid colliding with her legs.
Her fingers danced across the crystalline interface, pulling up images of various gem vessels.
Throughout our journey from the hallway where we first met, she had not spoken once to me since asking how I was here.
But occasionally glanced down at me with an unreadable expression.
The main screen flickered to life, displaying detailed schematics of a particular vessel.
I stood beside her, watching as she manipulated the holographic displays with a fluid grace that belied her imposing stature.
Hours passed, with Yellow Diamond showing me countless ship designs and star maps.
As the artificial day cycle dimmed outside, casting the chamber in a soft blue glow, she suddenly halted mid-sentence.
Her fingers hovered over the controls, trembling ever so slightly.
She turned to face me, her golden eyes locking onto mine with an intensity I had never seen before.
"Logan," she said, her voice softer than I had heard it before.
"There's something I need to tell you."
Her voice was almost a whisper, yet it resonated deeply within the chamber.
"You are not just any human; your presence here is not a coincidence."
I blinked, my mind racing to comprehend her words.
She turned away from me, her long legs striding purposefully across the room.
"Follow me," she said, beckoning me to trail behind her.
I followed, my heart pounding in my chest as I trailed after her through the winding corridors.
We eventually arrived at a small, private chamber that seemed out of place amidst the grandeur of the palace.
Yellow Diamond strode to a raised dais at the center of the room, where two thrones sat side by side.
She sank into one of them, beckoning me to join her in the other.
The thrones were designed for Diamond royalty, but she had chosen to sit in one that was slightly smaller than usual.
As she settled into it, I noticed she had also lowered its height so that I could sit beside her as an equal rather than below her.
I hesitated for a moment before taking my seat, my heart pounding in my chest.
She turned to face me, her golden eyes locked on mine.
Her voice was filled with an emotion I had never heard before from a Diamond.
A mix of sadness and longing that echoed through the chamber.
"Logan, you must understand. For millions of years, we watched your planet from afar. We saw humans rise and fall, their empires crumbling beneath our gaze. But we never interfered. We let them grow and evolve without our influence."
Her voice wavered slightly as she spoke, her words tinged with a hint of melancholy.
"But then something changed. Pink Diamond's fascination with Earth grew stronger. She began to visit your planet in secret, drawn to the humans' adaptability and spirit. And then... And then she fell in love."
Her voice faltered for a moment, her golden eyes clouding over.
"Greg Universe," she whispered, almost to herself.
"He was just a human boy from Earth, but he captured her heart."
I felt a pang of sadness well up within me at the mention of Greg's name.
It was hard to believe that this powerful being sitting before me had once known him so intimately.
"And then... And then there was you," Yellow Diamond continued, her voice filled with a mix of longing and regret.
"Logan Taylor Hampton. The boy who traveled through time and space to find your way back home. The boy who defied all odds and returned home." I blinked back tears at the mention of my name, overwhelmed by the weight of her words.
"You are the reason we must change."
Yellow Diamond rose from her throne, her massive form towering above me.
But as she took a step closer, she sank to one knee, bringing her golden eyes level with mine.
For the first time since meeting her, I saw her composure crack.
Her hand reached out towards my face, trembling ever so slightly.
She halted just short of touching me, as if unsure if she should make contact with a human.
"I have been watching you since the moment you first set foot on Earth," she confessed, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Unseen, I protected you from other Homeworld threats. I watched you grow, learn, and thrive."
Her voice wavered slightly as she spoke, her words filled with an emotion I had never seen in a Diamond before.
"And then... And then I realized why Pink Diamond was so fascinated by humanity. It was because of you."
I felt a lump form in my throat as I met her gaze.
Moisture gathered at the corners of her golden eyes, threatening to spill over at any moment.
"It's not supposed to happen," she continued, her voice cracking slightly.
"Gems aren't supposed to feel maternal instincts towards humans. But there it was. Watching you grow up reminded me of Pink Diamond's fascination with humanity. And then... And then I felt it too."
She reached out once more, gently grasping my hand in hers.
I stared down at her hand holding mine, marveling at the warmth emanating from a being made of light.
Her touch was surprisingly warm, like that of a human.
The maternal connection she described stirred something deep within me - a familiar feeling I had carried with me my whole life, without ever understanding its source.
My other hand moved unconsciously to my chest, where an odd warmth spread through my body.
"I've always felt different," I whispered, memories flooding back to mind.
"Like something was calling me here."
Yellow Diamond's eyes widened as I described the pull I had felt toward the stars since childhood.
My voice trembled slightly as I asked the question that had suddenly become paramount in my mind.
"Why do I feel like I belong here more than anywhere else?"
Yellow Diamond's grip on my hand loosened, her fingers releasing their hold as she rose to her full height.
She turned away from me, pacing across the chamber with a restless energy.
Her hands wrung together behind her back as she moved, the sound of her footsteps echoing through the room.
She halted at a window that looked out upon the crystalline spires of Homeworld, her back facing me.
Her voice drifted over her shoulder, tinged with a mix of longing and regret.
"I remember the first time I saw you take your first steps on Earth," she confessed, her words filled with a deep emotion.
"I watched through monitoring screens as you stumbled and fell. And then... Then I felt an overwhelming urge to reach through the screens and catch you."
She paused, her form motionless as she gazed out upon the wonders of Homeworld.
Her voice continued, filled with a vulnerability I had never seen in a Diamond before. "I stayed awake for days during your childhood illnesses," she admitted, her voice filled with a mixture of sadness and longing.
"I watched as you struggled to breathe, your body weakened by fever. And then... And then I broke protocol."
Her voice faltered slightly as she spoke, her words halting for a moment before continuing.
"I sent technology disguised as human medicine," she confessed, her admission echoing through the chamber.
"It was forbidden, but I couldn't bear to see you suffer."
Yellow Diamond turned back to face me, her golden eyes filled with tears that reflected the light streaming in from outside.
She took slow steps closer to me once more, her maternal instincts guiding every movement.
As she neared, the light danced across her tear-stained face, illuminating the depth of emotions within her eyes.
"Logan, there's something you need to know," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
"You are not just any human; you carry the essence of Pink Diamond within you."
My breath caught in my throat as her words sank in, the revelation shaking the very foundation of my identity.
I leaned forward in my throne, my mind reeling with the implications of Yellow Diamond's words.
"What is it?"
I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
"What does that mean exactly?"
Yellow Diamond's fingers tightened around mine as she struggled to find the right words to explain.
The chamber fell into an uncomfortable silence, broken only by the soft hum of machinery in the distance.
She rose from her kneeling position, towering over me once more as she made her way towards the wall.
Her hand pressed against a hidden panel, causing a compartment to slide open with a faint click.
A softly glowing pink crystal lay within, radiating an otherworldly light.
