The scorching sun beat down on me as I drove through the endless sand dunes.
As I rounded a particularly large dune, I saw something glinting in the light.
I squinted at it, trying to make it out.
As I got closer, I realized that it was some sort of gate.
Not a modern gate, but an ancient one made of crumbling stone with intricate carvings on it.
The carvings depicted various mythical creatures that I had heard of, but never seen before.
There were dragons, griffins, and many others that I couldnāt even recognize.
Standing guard on either side of the gate were two massive stone statues of lions.
They looked like they could come to life at any moment and devour anyone who came too close.
Despite the initial fear that surged through me, I felt no sense of danger coming from the statues or from anywhere near the gate.
I decided to get out of my car and explore the gate a little more.
As soon as I stepped out of the car, I felt a wave of heat wash over me.
The temperature in the desert was already scorching, but this felt even more intense than that.
