My name is Braden, and I'm 18 years old.
I'm a high schooler, but I don't have many friends.
Well, to be more accurate, I do have friends, but nobody knows that I have a special power.
If people found out about it, they'd be shocked.
I don't want to lose my few friends I have now, so I'll never tell anyone about it.
I have brown hair and blue eyes.
I'm not saying that I'm handsome or ugly, but I do know that I look normal.
There's nothing special about my looks.
The only special thing about me is my powers.
It all started a year ago when I gained my powers from a weird serum.
After drinking the strange liquid, my body changed.
I got wolf-like reflexes, super strength, the ability to run at the speed of light, and another crazy power: spin dash.
When I spin dash, I roll into a ball and spin headfirst into the enemies with incredible force.
It's like a dash, but with a spin.
If you saw me doing it in person, you would think that it looks like something out of a video game because it's so crazy.
I can do all of those things because of my powers, and I'm grateful for them.
With my powers came some awesome gadgets and tech, too.
I have grey gloves, a utility belt, wolf ears attached to my head, and even a tail attached to my backside.
The Grey Blur
I slip out the back door of my house at dusk, making sure that no one sees me as I head toward the dense forest.
The fallen pine needles crunch under my feet as I walk deeper into the woods, past the old oak tree where I first tested my powers.
Finding my usual clearing, I stop and take a deep breath.
"Activate suit," I whisper, and the grey armor materializes around me, fitting snugly as always.
I start with some basic warm-ups: short bursts of speed between the trees, gradually pushing myself faster.
The Grey Blur
The world begins to blur around me as I accelerate, wind whipping past my mask.
"Braden, is that you?" a voice calls out, startling me mid-sprint.
I skid to a halt, heart pounding, and see my best friend, Alex, stepping into the clearing.
"I knew it was you," Alex says with a grin, "and I know about your powers."
I stand there frozen, the only sound the distant chirping of crickets and the rustling of fallen leaves under Alex's feet as he approaches.
My mind races through a list of options: deny everything, run away at light speed, or come clean to my oldest friend.
The shadows in the forest seem to lengthen around us as the sun dips lower in the sky.
"How did you find out?"
I ask, trying to keep my voice steady.
"I saw you changing into your suit behind the school last week," Alex explains, his eyes gleaming with excitement.
"I followed you here tonight to confirm my suspicions."
My hands clench inside my grey gloves as memories of our childhood friendship flash through my mind: all the times we explored these woods together, shared our dreams, and stood up for each other when things got tough.
Even after I became an outcast among our peers, Alex never wavered in his loyalty.
The weight of keeping my secret identity from him feels heavier than ever.
The Grey Blur
I lead him deeper into the clearing, away from any hiking trails that might pass by.
The armor suit glows in the fading light, and I gesture for him to sit on a fallen log.
He keeps staring at the wolf ears and tail attachments while I pace back and forth, the leaves crunching under my boots.
When I finally stop moving, I deactivate my mask, revealing my face.
Alex leans forward, his eyes wide with recognition.
The Grey Blur
Before I can explain further, my crime alert hologram flashes red in front of me, projecting details of an armed robbery downtown.
I glance between the alert and Alex's expectant face, torn between duty and this crucial conversation.
"I'll be back," I say, determination in my voice as I sprint toward the city.
Crouching at the edge of the forest, I take one last look at Alex's silhouette against the darkening trees.
The robbery alert pulses urgently on my wrist display: three armed suspects at First National Bank.
My suit's power gauge reads at 98% - more than enough for the flight ahead.
I press the activation panel on my boots, causing them to hum with building energy.
The familiar vibration travels up my legs as I bend my knees, calculating trajectory.
The Grey Blur
With a deep breath, I push off from the ground, the jet propulsion launching me upward.
The city skyline rushes toward me as I soar into the night, leaving Alex and my secrets behind.
The city lights blur beneath me as I cut between skyscrapers, my suit's navigation system highlighting the bank in red.
The wind whips past my mask, causing my wolf ears to vibrate as I adjust my trajectory for a smooth approach.
Slowing down to avoid detection, I circle the bank building once before descending.
The rooftop entrance comes into view, and I watch as the security cameras sweep across the area.
My boots automatically dampen their thrusters to ensure a silent landing.
The Grey Blur
I crouch behind a ventilation unit, scanning the area before deactivating my thrusters.
My gloved hand reaches for the roof access door, testing if it's locked.
"Thermal imaging on," I command, and a grid of heat signatures flickers to life in front of me, showing me the layout of the building's floors.
