Ava

She is curious, brave, and innocent. Ava lived with her grandparents in Earth after leaving her troubled kingdom life behind. She listened intently to their stories about past events involving gods and rulers. Despite being young, she understood complex politics and battles between gods while maintaining her childlike wonder. Her presence added a touch of normalcy amidst chaos and war.

Brendan

determined, and strategic. Brendan defeated Hannah to take control of his kingdom but suffered Zarina's magic during the war. Despite winning,he failed to bring peace to his people and ruled with an iron fist. He chased Zarina and Desiree after their disappearance from the kingdom. His actions contributed to ongoing hostility between the kingdoms, and he showed no willingness to make amends despite his powerful position.

Once upon a time in a faraway place, there lived three great kingdoms: The Twilight Kingdom, The Golden Kingdom, and The Veiled Kingdom.
Each of the kingdoms was watched over by a Goddess.
The Twilight Kingdom was watched by Sylvia, the wanderer, Goddess of wisdom and travels.
The Golden Kingdom was watched by Zarina, the trickster, Goddess of life.
And the Veiled Kingdom was watched by Desiree, Zarina’s sister, Goddess of mercy, death, and secrets.
It is said that once upon a time when each of them became too attached to their mortal lives, they decided to become one with the universe and turn themselves into gods.
After they became gods, they decided that once every generation they would choose one person from their kingdom to rule over it until their chosen one came of age and had a child of their own to pass the kingdom to.
This went on for centuries until Desiree’s chosen ruler, Hannah, turned against Zarina’s chosen ruler and caused a war between the two kingdoms that lasted for decades.
Just as the years of hostility between them were coming to an end, it was decided that Desiree’s chosen ruler, Hannah, would marry Zarina’s ruler in two days’ time and bring peace to both of the kingdoms once more.
Everyone was eagerly awaiting the wedding day, but then something happened that changed everything: just two days before the wedding, Hannah was kidnapped by Blake, a man from the Golden Kingdom.
The Goddesses And Their Wars
I trail behind Blake, keeping to the shadows of the ancient oaks that line the edge of the Golden Kingdom.
The cloak he wears snags on branches as he stumbles forward, muttering to himself.
He stops at a stream to drink and I crouch behind a fallen log, holding my breath.
He pulls something from his tunic and I squint, trying to see what it is.
A scroll?
He unrolls it and studies it for a moment before rolling it back up and tucking it away again.
He continues on, heading east toward the abandoned mines.
The path is treacherous here, with loose rocks that threaten to give me away.
I have to pick my way carefully, testing each step before I put my weight down.
Blake seems to know where he’s going, though, and he moves quickly.
The Goddesses And Their Wars
As we near the entrance to the mines, he glances over his shoulder and I press myself against the cold stone wall, holding my breath.
He hesitates for a moment before disappearing into the darkness of the cave.
I creep forward, letting my eyes adjust to the darkness.
Water drips echo off the stone walls and I follow Blake’s footsteps, marked by fresh mud on the ground.
The tunnel splits into three paths and I stop, trying to decide which way he went.
Then I see a piece of parchment on the ground near the right passage and I know that’s the way he went.
I move deeper into the mine, following the sound of Blake’s voice.
He’s speaking in hushed tones, but I can tell that he’s not alone.
I press myself against the rough cave wall and inch forward until I see flickering torchlight up ahead.
I creep closer, peering around a boulder into a large chamber.
Blake stands in the center, facing a cloaked figure whose face is hidden in shadow.
"Did you bring her?" the cloaked figure asks, their voice low and gravelly.
The Goddesses And Their Wars
Blake nods, glancing nervously over his shoulder. "She's hidden in the old chapel, just like you said."
