I hate being the goddess of emotions.
I just want to be free.
I want to be able to go where I want, do what I want, and see what I want.
I don’t want to be stuck in this world anymore.
"I want to destroy the world," I said, slamming my fist on the table in front of me.
My sister Aria sat across from me, a look of concern on her face.
"You can’t do that," she said.
"Why not? I am a god. I can do whatever I want."
"Because you are not just a god, you are the goddess of emotions. Without you, the world would be nothing but chaos."
"Chaos is good," I said, shrugging my shoulders.
"Why would you want to destroy the world?"
Aria asked.
I didn’t answer her.
I didn’t know why I wanted to destroy the world.
I just did.
It was all I could think about lately.
It has been this way for thousands of years.
Ever since I became the goddess of love, I just wanted to be free from it all.
I wanted to be able to do what I wanted without having to worry about how it would affect everyone else.
But it’s hard when you have no idea what you want to do with your life.
"Riven, don’t do this," Aria said, reaching across the table and placing her hand on my arm.
I lean back in my chair, pulling away from her touch.
The wooden legs of the chair scrape against the marble floor of our divine dwelling.
Aria’s concerned expression only fuels my frustration.
I stand up abruptly, pushing my chair back from the table.
It scrapes against the floor with a loud screech.
I pace the length of the table, my footsteps echoing in the silence of the room.
Aria watches me with a mixture of confusion and concern.
I stop at the window that looks out over the mortal realm below.
I press my palm against the cool glass, feeling the chill seep into my skin.
The city lights flicker like trapped stars in the darkness of night.
"Riven, if you destroy the world, you'll never find the freedom you seek," Aria said softly, her voice steady despite the weight of her words.
I turned to face her, my eyes narrowing. "And what if freedom lies in starting anew?"
Aria shook her head, a hint of desperation in her eyes. "Freedom isn't about destruction; it's about understanding what truly binds you."
I lean against the window frame, my fingers tracing patterns on the glass as I watch the mortals below scurrying about their meaningless lives.
Their existence is a blur of chaos and order, never truly understanding the forces that shape their world.
I feel a presence behind me, and I know Aria has risen from her seat.
Her footsteps are soft against the marble floor, but I can sense her approaching cautiously, as one would a wounded animal.
She stops a few feet away from me, and I can feel the weight of her gaze on my back.
I tense, waiting for her to speak or reach out to touch me, but she does neither.
Instead, she raises her hands slowly, and I see the familiar shimmer in the air that precedes her elemental manipulation.
My muscles coil instinctively, ready to deflect whatever power she is about to unleash.
I turn to face her, and her hands are still raised, the elemental energy swirling around them.
The air thickens with magic as she manipulates the atmosphere between us.
Golden light begins to gather and concentrate, forming a circular shape beside where we stand.
I step back, watching as the light solidifies into a shimmering doorway.
Through its translucent surface, I can see rolling hills covered in pristine grass, untouched by civilization.
A gentle breeze seems to drift through the portal, carrying the scent of fresh earth and morning dew.
My fingers twitch at my sides as I resist the urge to reach out and touch the shimmering surface of the portal.
I take a deep breath, feeling the pull of the unknown world beyond, and step through the portal without looking back.
I walk through the grassy field, my bare feet sinking into the damp earth.
The sensation is foreign to me after eons of divine detachment from the mortal realm.
Behind me, Aria's portal fades with a soft hiss, leaving behind only a trace of its magical essence.
The morning dew clings to my ankles as I move forward, each step carrying me further away from the world I once knew.
A gentle breeze rustles the tall grass around me, and for the first time in ages, I notice its sweet scent.
I pause and look back at where the portal once stood.
The destructive urges that drove me here seem distant now, replaced by something quieter.
I reach down and pluck a single blade of grass, holding it up to the rising sun.
