She always yearned for intimacy..
A touch, hold, a kiss..
But life had taken that away from her..
After her mother's death last year from cancer and her father abandoning them before that, she had lost all hope..
Then she found solace in helping others..
It was the only thing that kept her going..
It started with small things like helping her neighbors with their chores to volunteering at a community center, but it gave her a purpose..
A purpose to look forward to the next day with a hope that it would be better..
She never thought that one day this purpose would become her escape from the loneliness that had become a part of her life now.
This loneliness had become a constant ache in her heart now and the only thing that soothed this ache was giving, helping..
She also realized that she was not alone in this pain..
There were others like her, who also yearned for connection, a touch, a hold, a refuge..
A refuge from the pain and constant ache in their hearts..
The Girl Who Saved Me
The community center had a lot of meeting rooms and she had booked the one that was used by the AA group on Wednesdays..
It was a big room with chairs arranged in a circle in the middle and a whiteboard at the back.
She walked around the room, arranging the chairs in a circle and then moving to the whiteboard.
Michael helped her put up the flyers they had made..
They were simple with the name of the group and its purpose..
"Finding Connection" she wrote on the whiteboard with slightly shaking hands..
Samantha came in with two trays, one with coffee and another with cookies..
She set them down on a table at the side and then walked over to Ava, squeezing her shoulder..
"You'll do great, Ava.."
She said before walking out..

Ethan bounced into the room, his eyes shining with excitement..
He loved playing games and he was already thinking of ways to make this group fun..
"How about we play a game of 'Two Truths and a Lie'?" he suggested..
Ava smiled, feeling her nerves settle a bit.. She set out sign-in sheets and name tags on another table near the entrance and then walked over to where Samantha was sitting, looking at her phone..
"It's six o'clock," she said, hearing footsteps coming from down the hall..
The Girl Who Saved Me
The first guests arrived, their hesitant smiles meeting Ava's welcoming gaze.
Ethan, ever the charmer, sprang into action, greeting the newcomers and helping them find seats.
As more people trickled in, Ethan continued to mingle, cracking jokes and making everyone feel at ease..
He even helped Ava pass out name tags and sign-in sheets.
When he reached for extra name tags on the table beside me, his hand grazed mine, sending a jolt of warmth through my fingers..
Our eyes met briefly, his playful expression softening into something more intense..
The Girl Who Saved Me
My breath caught in my throat as I quickly looked away, busying myself with straightening papers that didn't need straightening..
The room suddenly felt hotter than it should have been, and I was acutely aware of Ethan's presence as he continued to greet people nearby..
