I received a letter from the future.
I can hardly believe my eyes!
It said that I would become a famous scientist in the future, and I would be sent to Mars with my five friends.
In 2023, technology was still underdeveloped, but now it was 2045, and the world had changed a lot since then.
I was born in 2023.
My father died of lung cancer caused by mining dust when I was five years old.
After his death, my mother had several jobs to feed my siblings and me.
She also made sure that I had access to resources that would help me achieve my goals.
Because of this, I was able to buy books, attend seminars, and even hire a tutor.
My childhood friend Rely had been very helpful to me.
We met in kindergarten, and since then we have been close friends.
The Girl Who Reached The Stars
I walk to our usual meeting spot in the park.
Rely is already there, sitting on our favorite bench near the old oak tree.
He's reading a book about space exploration.
As I approach, he looks up and notices something's different about me.
"Hey, what's wrong?"
He asks as I sit beside him.
I clutch the letter from my future self in my sweaty palm.
I unfold it and hand it to him.
Rely reads each line, his eyes widening in disbelief.
He stays quiet for a long moment, then asks me questions about the Mars mission mentioned in the letter.
The Girl Who Reached The Stars
"Do you think this means we actually make it to Mars?" Rely's voice is a mix of excitement and skepticism.
"I don't know, but if this letter is real, it means we're part of something much bigger than we ever imagined," I reply, feeling the weight of the words settle in.
"But why us? Why were we chosen out of everyone else?" Rely wonders aloud, his curiosity piqued.
After our discussion, Rely and I decide to head to my house.
I have a makeshift laboratory in my garage.
I keep newspaper clippings about space missions on the walls.
My old laptop is still functional, so I boot it up to check the latest space news.
Rely starts organizing the scattered papers on my workbench.
As the laptop screen flickers to life, I navigate to the Global Space Agency's website.
A breaking news alert catches my attention: "Revolutionary Mars Mission Announced - Young Scientists Selected."
I freeze, my hands hovering over the keyboard.
Rely leans over my shoulder, his breath catching as he reads the headline.
I quickly scroll down to see the names of the selected scientists.
The Girl Who Reached The Stars
There they are: "Lana Clark" and "Rely Thompson."
Rely stares at the screen, his voice barely a whisper, "This can't be real, can it?"
I nod slowly, my mind racing, "It matches everything in the letter... it's happening, Rely."
He looks at me, eyes wide with a mix of fear and exhilaration, "Then we need to figure out why we were chosen and what we're supposed to do next."
