It was a stormy night in our small town.
The rain poured heavily on the roof of my bedroom.
I could hear the loud sound of the raindrops.
I was lying on my bed and crying loudly.
My best friend had just departed to another country with his family.
This thought was killing me.
I couldn't bear this anymore.
I cried and sobbed in this lonely darkness.
"How could you leave me, Tom? I won't be able to live here without you. I am going to die without him."
These thoughts were haunting me.
Suddenly, there was a flash of lightning.
I looked towards my window and froze in fear.
There was a figure standing outside my window.
It was dark, but I could clearly see the glowing eyes of the figure.
It resembled Tom's figure.
"What...what are you?"
I cried loudly, sobbing.
"Answer me! Are...are you a ghost?"
There was no reply from the other side.
The figure kept staring at me through the window.
I was shivering in fear.
"What do you want from me? Tom, is it really you? How can a ghost travel from another country to here?"
I asked sobbing.
There was still no reply.
"Answer me! Don't stand like a statue! Say something!"
I cried loudly, sobbing.
The figure started fading away.
"Tom! Don't go!"
The figure kept staring at me.
I was shivering with fear.
Suddenly, it disappeared into the darkness.
I was still looking towards the window.
My heart was pounding in my chest.
The room felt colder than before.
I pulled the blanket tighter around me to shake off the fear.
"Kevin?"
I heard Sarah's voice from the doorway.
She stepped inside my room, her face etched with concern.
"I thought I heard you talking to someone."
I hesitated, unsure how to explain what I had just seen.
"It was Tom... or something that looked like him," I whispered, my voice trembling.
Sarah sat on the edge of my bed, wrapping an arm around me.
"It's okay," she said gently.
I lay there, staring at the window, half-expecting to see the figure again.
But it was gone.
The rain continued to fall outside, drumming a rhythm on the roof.
Sarah's presence was warm beside me, but my mind was still racing with questions.
What had I really seen?
Was it Tom's ghost?
Or something else entirely?
I couldn't shake the feeling of unease that lingered in the air.
But as I drifted off to sleep, I wondered if I would ever find out what had happened that night. The next morning, I woke up feeling groggy and disoriented.
The storm had passed, leaving behind a gray sky and a chill in the air.
I rolled over in bed and looked towards the window, wondering if I had really seen Tom's ghostly figure the night before.
It seemed so vivid at the time, but now it felt like a dream.
I threw off the covers and got out of bed, padding softly towards the window.
As I reached out to pull back the curtain, I felt a shiver run down my spine.
There was something about this room that felt different today.
Maybe it was just my imagination playing tricks on me, but I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.
I pulled back the curtain and looked out into the backyard.
The grass was wet from last night's storm, and there were leaves scattered everywhere.
But as I scanned the yard, I noticed something strange. There was a figure standing near the fence, partially hidden by a tree.
It looked like... Tom?
My heart began to race as I stared at the figure.
It was dressed in dark clothing, and its face was obscured by shadows.
I couldn't tell if it was really Tom or just my imagination playing tricks on me again.
But as I watched, the figure began to move towards my house.
My heart skipped a beat as I realized that this wasn't just my imagination.
There really was someone standing in my backyard!
I turned away from the window and ran downstairs as fast as I could.
"Sarah! Sarah!"
I yelled as I reached the bottom of the stairs.
She came running into the hallway, looking worried.
"What's wrong?"
"There's someone in our backyard," I said breathlessly. Sarah frowned and followed me back upstairs to my room.
We both stood at the window and looked out into the backyard.
The figure was still there, moving slowly towards our house.
Sarah gasped when she saw it too.
"What do we do?"
"We need to call the police," Sarah said, her voice steady despite the fear in her eyes.
"But what if it's really Tom?" I asked, my mind racing with confusion and hope.
"Kevin, we can't take any chances," she replied firmly, grabbing her phone.
She dialed the police station and spoke to them in a hushed voice, telling them what we had seen.
I stayed glued to the window, watching the figure as it drew closer.
Each step it took seemed deliberate, as if it knew we were watching.
The rain started falling again, drumming against the roof and obscuring my view of the backyard.
But when it let up for a moment, I saw that the figure was even closer now.
I could make out more details of its appearance, and my heart skipped a beat when I realized that it really did look like Tom.
It was wearing the same kind of clothes he always wore, and its hair was styled in the same way.
But how could this be?
Tom was in another country, thousands of miles away.
And even if he had somehow managed to come back, why would he be standing in our backyard in the rain?
Sarah finished her call with the police and turned to me, her eyes wide with fear.
"We need to stay inside," she said, grabbing my arm and pulling me away from the window. But I couldn't tear my eyes away from the figure outside.
It was almost at our porch steps now, and I could see its face clearly.
It was Tom's face, or at least someone who looked exactly like him.
My mind raced with possibilities as I stared at the figure.
Could it really be him?
Or was this some kind of prank?
The police arrived just as the figure reached our front door.
They rushed past us and out into the yard, shining their flashlights on the figure.
"Tom?" one of the officers called out, his voice echoing in the night.
The figure turned slowly, and for a moment, I thought I saw a flicker of recognition in its eyes.
"Kevin," it said softly, "I need your help."
