Pearl is the fellow princess of the village. She always followed the rules so she doesn’t get hurt, but there was one rule that she kept wondering why it’s a thing. The rule of no Alpha rules allowed in the village, which meant no going to the woods at any point during the day. Her father, the King, keeps her captive. Not wanting her to leave, but she wants to get out to see Auston, an alpha wolf she is deeply attached to.
Pearl
She is the princess of a village where she lives under the rule of her father, the King. She is curious, determined, and loving. Pearl struggles with the strict rules set by her father, especially the one that prohibits her from seeing any Alpha wolf, including Auston, her childhood friend. Despite being treated like a prisoner, she tries to find ways to visit Auston and break free from her restrictive life. She longs for freedom and deepens her bond with Auston through letters.
Auston
He is an Alpha wolf living on the outskirts of a village. He is loyal, gentle, and patient. Auston is best friends with Princess Pearl and has been deeply attached to her since childhood. He respects the rules set by the King but understands Pearl's longing to see him. Through letters, Auston and Pearl maintain their deep connection, despite being apart. He tries to find ways to visit Pearl without breaking any rules, showing his willingness to be with her.
King
He is the ruler of the village where Princess Pearl lives. He is protective, strict, and cautious. The King created the rule prohibiting Alpha wolves from the village to ensure his daughter's safety after a tragic event involving another Alpha. Though his intentions are good, his rules cause Pearl distress and longing to see Auston. The King remains firm but open to listening when Pearl pleads with him to reconsider the rules and allow her more freedom.
I was the princess of that village, and my father was the King.
Following the rules was the only thing I did in my life, not because I wanted to but because I had no choice.
If I didn't follow the rules, I would get hurt.
I knew it and thus I never broke any of those rules.
There were a lot of rules, too many to count.
One of them was the rule that made me wonder why it even existed.
The rule was that no matter what happened, under no circumstances could an Alpha be allowed to enter our village.
I knew why the King created that rule.
It was all because of what happened to him and to another Alpha.
A long time ago, another Alpha came to our village and killed the King's brother.
The King thought that all Alpha wolves were bad and since then he didn't allow any Alpha to come into our village.
I understood why he created that rule, but I couldn't help but wonder why he still enforced it even after all these years.
There must be a reason behind it, right?
I just couldn't understand it.
That rule made me stay away from someone I loved, someone who was an Alpha wolf.
His name was Auston, and he was my best friend.
I had known him since I was a child, and as we grew up, my feelings for him changed.
I pace in my room, watching the sun sink toward the horizon through the barred windows.
The guards change shifts at dusk - I've memorized their rotation.
I clutch the letter I received from Auston earlier today, his words burning a hole in my pocket.
I pull on a dark cloak and stuff my bed with pillows to make it look like I'm sleeping.
When the evening bell rings, I slip out of my room and into the servant's corridor.
I duck behind the kitchen storage, counting the seconds between guard patrols.
My heart pounds as I edge along the village wall, using shadows for cover.
The forest looms ahead, branches swaying in the breeze.
Through gaps in the trees, I catch glimpses of a familiar silhouette waiting at our meeting spot.
My heart pounds as I slip between shadows, moving closer to Auston's form at the forest's edge.
He extends his hand, and I take it, letting him pull me quickly behind a large oak tree.
A guard's torch beam sweeps past us, and we hold our breaths.
When the light fades, Auston whispers in my ear, "I found a way out. A narrow deer trail that winds through the dense undergrowth. The palace guards never patrol there."
He points to a barely visible gap between two thorny bushes.
"I've mapped out every twist and turn that could lead us to freedom."
Crouched beside him, I study the crude map he's drawn on a scrap of parchment.
Moonlight filters through the branches above, casting dappled shadows on the forest floor.
Auston traces the route with his finger - past the old well, through a ravine, and beyond the village boundary stones.
The path twists and turns, leading us deeper into the woods.
We edge closer to the gap he's found, careful not to rustle any leaves or snap any twigs that might give away our escape.
The thorny branches scratch at my arms as we push through them.
A twig snaps somewhere behind us.
We both freeze, pressing ourselves flat against the forest floor.
Heavy footsteps approach, then veer off in another direction.
Auston squeezes my hand and points to the narrow opening ahead.
"We have to move quickly," he murmurs, urgency lacing his voice.
"But what if they catch us?" I whisper back, fear and excitement battling within me.
"They won't," Auston assures, his eyes fierce with determination, "because this time, we're not just running away; we're running toward something better."
