My two daughters are waiting for me in bed.
What am I going to do?
Write your story, and don’t look back.
I have two daughters, not biological ones, but daughters nonetheless.
They’re both waiting for me in bed.
One has golden hair, the other chestnut.
They’re both beautiful, but in different ways.
My golden-haired daughter is impulsive and adventurous.
She lives for the day, never worrying about tomorrow.
She’s passionate and spontaneous, sometimes reckless and headstrong.
She loves the sea and spends most of her time outdoors, either swimming or just sitting on the beach, watching the waves and the sunset.
She has a wild beauty, like a lioness.
My chestnut-haired daughter is more reserved.
She’s gentle and introspective, thoughtful and considerate.
She plans and prepares, never acting on impulse.
She’s passionate too, but in a different way.
She shows her love in soft words and delicate touches, rather than the wild abandon of her sister.
She prefers the quiet of the night, the peacefulness of the stars shining brightly in a velvet sky.
She has a fiery beauty, like a wild rose.
Both my daughters are waiting for me in bed.
What am I going to do?
The Forbidden Love
I walk into the dimly lit bedroom, my footsteps quiet on the wooden floor.
The golden-haired one is sprawled across the left side of the bed, her hair a wild tangle of curls, a golden halo on the pillow.
The chestnut-haired one sits primly on the right side, her back against the headboard, her hair a dark waterfall down her back.
I settle between them, and the mattress dips beneath my weight.
The golden one curls against my side like a cat, her head on my shoulder.
The Forbidden Love
The chestnut-haired one keeps a careful distance, but her eyes are fixed on mine, hanging onto every word.
I take a deep breath and let my voice drop low.
"Once upon a time…"
I pause, letting the words hang in the air.
The golden-haired one’s eyes are already drifting closed, her warm weight heavy against my side, her fingers curled into my sleeve.
The chestnut-haired one is still alert, but her eyelids are growing heavy.
She’s fighting sleep, determined to hear the end of the tale.
I lower my voice even further, letting the words flow like a gentle stream.
The Forbidden Love
The scent of their shampoo mingles with the lavender air freshener, a sweet and soothing smell that fills my heart with tenderness.
I glance down at them, watching as they struggle to stay awake.
Their eyelids flutter closed, then open again, their eyes glassy with sleep.
I pause, studying their faces in the dim light.
A dangerous impulse rises within me, a desire to tell them the truth I’ve kept hidden for so long.
The golden-haired one stirs against my shoulder, her grip on my sleeve loosening.
The chestnut-haired one’s eyes are barely open, but they’re still watching me, waiting for the next words.
I lean closer, my voice barely above a whisper.
The Forbidden Love
"I have not always been a father..."
The words slip out before I can stop them, revealing pieces of our past that I’ve kept hidden.
But tonight, I choose silence over secrets.
