I still remember the day I met Susan, Johnny, and Ben for the first time.
It was a beautiful warm day in New York City.
I was working on my project at the time, trying to get it finished so I could show it to the government in hopes of getting their funding.
I had been working on a ship that would take people to the farthest reaches of space.
My name is Reed Richards, and I am a scientist, inventor, and explorer.
Besides being brilliant in all of these things, I am also obsessed with space.
I always wanted to know what was out there and if there was anything else in our universe.
My girlfriend at the time, also my best friend, was Susan Storm.
She too was a brilliant scientist who helped me with my work.
Together we waited for the answer from the government about whether or not they would fund our project.
We waited for days, but finally, after two weeks of waiting, we got our answer.
The government would not give us their funding; they did not believe we would make it out of Earth's atmosphere without blowing up.
This news devastated us at first.
We had all been so sure that we would get the money from the government.
We were all ready to start building our ship so we could begin our testing soon.
After the government's rejection, I sat in my lab, which was cluttered with blueprints and tools scattered all over the place.
I was staring at the blueprints of my ship when Susan walked in.
She had a determined look on her face.
"Reed, there's someone who wants to meet us," she said.
I looked up at her and wondered who it could be.
I followed her out of the lab and into the elevator.
We got in and pressed the button for the ground floor.
When we got out, we went to a sleek black car that was waiting for us.
We got in and drove downtown to a big office building.
We got out of the car and went inside.
The building was very modern and sleek.
We went up to the top floor and into a big office with a man sitting behind a desk.
He was a tall man with sharp features and piercing blue eyes.
He stood up as we entered his office.
"Mr. Richards, Ms. Storm, I'm Victor Von Doom," he said, extending his hand with a confident smile.
Susan glanced at me before speaking, "We've heard of you, Mr. Doom. What interest do you have in our project?"
Victor leaned forward slightly, his eyes gleaming with ambition, "I believe your ship can succeed where others have failed, and I have the resources to make it happen."
We left Victor's office a few hours later, the city buzzing with life outside.
As we walked back to our car, Susan turned to me, her eyes filled with excitement and uncertainty.
"What do you think, Reed? Should we take the risk and partner with him?"
I considered her question carefully, weighing the pros and cons of working with Victor.
While he had the resources we needed, I couldn't shake off the feeling that he was hiding something.
But then again, I had always been cautious when it came to trusting others.
Just as we were about to get into the car, a familiar voice called out from across the street.
"Hey, Sue! Reed!"
We turned to see Johnny Storm, Susan's younger brother, walking towards us with his usual swagger.
He flashed us a mischievous grin as he approached.
"Hey there, Sue! Reed! What's up?"
Susan rolled her eyes good-naturedly at her brother's antics.
"Just getting back from a meeting with Victor Von Doom," she replied.
Johnny's eyes widened in surprise.
"Victor? What's he want with you guys?"
I explained our meeting with Victor and his offer to fund our project.
Johnny listened intently, his expression thoughtful.
"Well, I've got some news that might interest you," he said finally.
