My name is Alyssa Hart.
I am a teenage girl born half human and half fairy.
Unlike other fairies, I am a rare hybrid since I am the first of my kind.
I do not have any wings like the rest of the fairies.
At least, that is what I think.
I fully resemble a human, but I do have some traits of a fairy.
I have pointed ears, but they are hidden behind my hair.
Only my dad, Jerome, knows about my fairy half.
He knows that I am aware of it, but he does not want to talk about it.
He does not want to talk about it because he is concerned about my fairy half.
He does not want me to know because he wants me to live in the human world and be with the humans.
However, he knows that I am not a normal teenage girl.
He knows that I am not normal because I can sense things that are not normal.
I can sense things that are not normal because I am a halffairy born in the human world.
My dad is a human, and my mom was a very powerful white fairy.
Born as a human, my mom along with two of her friends found their way into the fairy realm.
When they touched the crystal, they turned into the three first original fairies.
The Fairy Queen
I sat at the kitchen table, staring at the letter in my hands.
The fairy school’s emblem shimmered on the envelope.
It was a world that I had always dreamed of being a part of.
My dad, Jerome, walked into the room, his eyes weary from another night shift.
"Dad," I began, holding up the letter.
He paused, his expression shifting from fatigue to concern.
"It’s from the fairy realm," I explained.
"They want me to attend their school."
He sighed deeply, running a hand through his hair.
"Alyssa," he said slowly, "are you sure about this?"
I nodded firmly.
The Fairy Queen
He sat down across from me, his eyes flicking between the letter and my face.
For a moment, I saw a glimmer of uncertainty in his gaze, something that was rare for him.
My dad was always steady, always strong.
But now, as he contemplated the idea of me leaving for the fairy realm, I could see the flicker of doubt.
"Dad," I began carefully, choosing my words.
"This is about finding out what happened to Mom."
His jaw tightened, a familiar reaction whenever she was mentioned.
I could see the conflict in his eyes—protectiveness warring with understanding.
"Alyssa," he sighed, rubbing his temples.
"I just want you safe."
I reached across the table, squeezing his hand.
"I need to do this," I said gently.
The Fairy Queen
After a long pause, he nodded slowly.
"There's something you need to know before you go," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
I leaned in closer, sensing the weight of his words.
"Your mother didn't just find the fairy realm; she was its queen."
The Fairy Queen
My eyes widened in shock, my grip on the letter tightening.
I could feel the world around me shifting, the revelation settling like a stormy sky.
"Mystia wasn't just any fairy," he continued, his voice filled with reverence.
"She ruled with grace and strength."
I leaned forward, eager to know more about this part of my mother's story.
But why had he kept it a secret for so long?
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?" I demanded, my voice tinged with frustration.
He took a deep breath, his gaze meeting mine.
"I wanted to protect you from the danger that came with her position," he admitted, his voice heavy with regret.
"I wanted you to have a normal life."
I stood abruptly, determination burning within me.
The Fairy Queen
"I'm going to the fairy realm," I said, my voice resolute.
"And I'm going to find out what happened to Mom."
Dad's face fell, but he knew better than to argue with me.
He'd seen that look in my eyes before, the same one that had driven my mother to explore the unknown.
I sat in the living room, the letter from the fairy realm still clutched in my lap.
My dad paced back and forth, his brow furrowed with worry.
"Alyssa," he began, his voice strained.
"I need you to be careful."
I nodded, knowing that he was right.
This journey would be fraught with danger, but I couldn't turn away now.
He stopped pacing and faced me, his eyes searching mine for reassurance.
"I'll come back," I whispered, squeezing his hand tighter.
The Fairy Queen
He sighed deeply, pulling me into a warm hug.
"There's one more thing," he murmured into my hair, his voice barely audible.
I pulled back slightly, looking up at him with questioning eyes.
"Your mother left something for you in the old oak tree," he revealed, his tone laced with a hint of urgency.
The Fairy Queen
I nodded, my heart pounding in my chest.
The old oak tree was a place I had always felt drawn to, a symbol of strength and resilience.
I could feel the weight of the letter in my hand, the secrets it held waiting to be unearthed.
With a resolute breath, I stepped out into the crisp morning air.
My dad watched from the porch, his eyes shadowed with worry.
I gave him a reassuring nod before turning toward the woods, the old oak tree beckoning me forward.
Each step felt like a countdown, anticipation and fear mingling within me.
The towering branches of the oak loomed ahead, its gnarled roots twisting like ancient fingers.
I knelt at its base, brushing away leaves and dirt until my fingers grazed something solid.
"Alyssa," a voice whispered from behind, startling me.
I turned to see my dad standing there, his expression a mix of hope and fear.
"Promise me you'll use whatever you find wisely," he urged, his eyes locking onto mine with an intensity that made my heart skip.
The Fairy Queen
I nodded, my throat constricting with emotion.
"I promise," I whispered, my voice barely audible.
With a deep breath, I gently lifted the box from beneath the roots.
The intricate carvings on its surface seemed to shimmer in the sunlight, casting delicate patterns on the ground.
My fingers traced over the symbols, feeling a connection to my mother that transcended time and space.
Dad watched silently, his eyes filled with a mix of pride and apprehension.
I hesitated for a moment, the weight of the unknown pressing down upon me.
Then, with a resolute breath, I slowly opened the lid.
A soft glow emanated from within, illuminating the surrounding leaves.
Inside lay a shimmering pendant, its beauty both captivating and humbling.
I lifted it gingerly, feeling its gentle warmth against my skin.
As I held it aloft, the light enveloped me, filling me with an unshakeable sense of purpose.
The Fairy Queen
"It's your mother's talisman," Dad whispered, his voice filled with reverence.
"It's meant to guide and protect you."
I turned to him, my eyes wide with realization.
"Does this mean she knew I'd follow her path?" I asked, my voice trembling with newfound understanding.
He nodded slowly, a bittersweet smile playing on his lips.
The Fairy Queen
"It means she believed in you," he said, his voice filled with conviction.
"Trust your instincts, Alyssa. Trust yourself."
I stood at the edge of the forest, the pendant warm against my chest.
Dad lingered behind, his presence a comforting shadow.
"Remember, Alyssa," he called softly, "trust your instincts."
I nodded, taking a deep breath as I stepped forward into the shimmering portal that marked the entrance to the fairy realm.
The air crackled with energy around me, a vibrant spectrum of colors and unfamiliar sounds enveloping me as I crossed the threshold.
Each step drew me further into this mystical realm, a world both captivating and daunting.
I paused for a moment, adjusting to the sudden sensory overload.
The pendant pulsed in rhythm with my heartbeat, a steady reminder of my purpose.
"Alyssa, is that you?" a melodic voice echoed from the vibrant foliage.
I turned to see a figure emerging from the shadows, her features both familiar and ethereal.
"Mom?" I gasped, my heart racing with disbelief and hope.
The Fairy Queen
As I stepped closer, her form shimmered, a mixture of warmth and sadness illuminating her eyes.
I reached out, my hand trembling as I extended it toward her.
But as I touched her arm, my hand passed through, a fleeting illusion of contact.
Confusion and disappointment washed over me, only to be replaced by the gentle resonance of her voice.
"Alyssa," she began, her words soft yet firm, "if you're seeing this, it means you've found your way here."
The flickering image of my mother's form revealed its true nature – an illusion, a message left for me.
"I left this message to guide you," she continued, her voice resonating with determination.
"The truth lies within the heart of the fairy realm. Seek it out, and trust yourself."
With those final words, the illusion dissipated, leaving me standing alone amidst the vibrant foliage of the fairy realm.
I took a deep breath, feeling the weight of destiny settle upon my shoulders.
The Fairy Queen
I returned home with Dad, the weight of my mother's words echoing in my mind.
As I stepped into my room, a sense of urgency washed over me.
I knew it was time to prepare for the journey ahead.
I grabbed my backpack, duffel bag, and rolling luggage, determined to pack everything essential for the unknown path that lay before me.
My hands moved swiftly, gathering clothes, supplies, and the precious pendant – all reminders of the love and guidance that would accompany me on this adventure.
As I packed, I paused for a moment, my gaze falling upon a framed photo on my dresser.
It was a picture of Mom and me from when I was just a toddler – her radiant smile illuminating the image.
In that moment, I felt as though she was urging me forward, her presence infusing me with strength and determination.
Carefully, I placed the photo into my bag, knowing it would be an anchor in the uncharted world ahead.
Just as I zipped up my bag, Dad knocked gently on the doorframe.
"Are you ready for this, Alyssa?" he asked, his voice a mix of concern and encouragement.
I nodded, meeting his gaze with newfound resolve.
The Fairy Queen
Dad and I walked to his police cruiser, the cool night air caressing my skin.
The trunk of the car slammed shut with a solid thud as I placed my bag inside.
I settled into the backseat, fastening my seatbelt while Dad took his place in the driver's seat.
The engine rumbled to life, and we pulled onto the road, bound for Dad's night shift.
As I lay back, I gazed up at the stars twinkling through the window, their light flickering like distant beacons guiding me on my journey.
In the rearview mirror, Dad's eyes met mine, speaking volumes without words.
"Alyssa," he said, breaking the silence, "there's something you need to know before you go any further."
I leaned forward, curiosity piqued.
"Your mother... she wasn't just visiting the fairy realm; she was its guardian."
The Fairy Queen
The cruiser hummed along the dark road, its headlights illuminating the path ahead.
I leaned forward, my mind racing with the revelation.
"Is she a guardian or a queen?"
I asked, my voice laced with confusion.
Dad sighed deeply, his gaze flicking to the rearview mirror.
"Both," he admitted, his voice heavy with the weight of secrets he had carried for so long.
"She protected the realm and ruled it."
The words hung in the air like mist, their meaning slowly settling within me.
The road stretched ahead, a path into uncertainty, as Dad navigated us toward the station.
Finally, we arrived at the station's parking lot, and Dad parked the car.
He turned to face me, his eyes filled with determination.
"Alyssa, you have to understand, this journey isn't just about finding answers," he said, his voice steady.
"It's about embracing who you are and the legacy your mother left behind."
I nodded slowly, feeling the enormity of his words sink in.
The Fairy Queen
I grabbed my backpack, duffel bag, and rolling luggage from the trunk of the cruiser.
The night air was cool against my skin as we walked deeper into the forest.
The path was familiar yet mysterious, leading us to where the portal would open.
As we walked, I turned to Dad, curiosity burning within me.
"If Mom was both queen and guardian," I asked, "why did she leave the fairy realm to live here?"
Dad paused, his footsteps slowing as he considered his response carefully.
"She wanted a life with us," he said softly, his voice carrying the weight of memories past.
"But there were things she couldn't ignore."
"Like what?" I pressed, needing to understand the full story.
"There was a threat she couldn't face alone," Dad replied, his eyes shadowed with old fears.
"And now, Alyssa, it's up to you to finish what she started."
We continued on, the forest growing denser, the moonlight filtering through the trees above.
The air was alive with anticipation, the portal's opening drawing near.
As we reached the clearing, I turned to Dad, seeking comfort in stories of the past.
"How did you and Mom meet?" he asked, a hint of a smile playing on his lips.
"At a small café," he said, his voice filled with warmth.
"She spilled coffee on me."
I laughed, imagining the scene unfolding before my eyes.
"And then she laughed," Dad continued, his voice tinged with nostalgia.
"I laughed too. And that was it. I was hooked."
The sound of their laughter echoed through time, a moment forever etched in memory.
"Did she ever tell you about the realm before you knew who she really was?" I asked, curiosity piquing again.
"Bits and pieces," Dad replied, his eyes distant with recollection.
"She always said it was a place where magic and reality danced together."
The Fairy Queen
The wind picked up, swirling leaves around us.
As we reached the center of the clearing, the trees formed a circle, and in their midst, a vibrant portal materialized.
Dad checked my backpack, duffel bag, and rolling luggage, listing off the essentials I would need on my journey: clothes, toiletries, phone charger, and snacks.
I teased him about forgetting one thing, but he just smiled and handed me a small bag of homemade chocolate chip cookies.
Then his expression turned serious.
"Jerome," he said softly, "you know that being half human might make things... complicated with the fairies."
His eyes were filled with concern, his voice laced with worry.
"If you want to come home," he continued, "I'll be waiting."
I nodded, feeling the weight of his words settle within me.
"I'll miss you," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
Dad's arms enveloped me in a tight hug.
"I'll miss you too," he murmured against my hair.
The Fairy Queen
"But you have to do this. You have to find out what happened to Mom."
With one last glance at Dad's worried face, I took a deep breath and stepped toward the shimmering portal.
The Fairy Queen
As I stepped into the swirling colors, the portal enveloped me, creating a mesmerizing tunnel of light.
Each step felt like an eternity, the path stretching endlessly before me.
My backpack weighed heavily on my shoulders, and the rolling luggage bumped along behind me, its wheels echoing in the silence.
The small bag of cookies nestled in my backpack was a comforting reminder of home.
Time seemed to blur as I walked, each moment blending seamlessly into the next.
The Fairy Queen
Finally, I emerged from the portal, my eyes widening in awe.
Before me stood the fairy school, a majestic structure that resembled a castle.
Towers stretched toward the sky, their delicate turrets reaching for the stars.
The sheer grandeur of the building took my breath away.
But as I stood there, frozen in wonder, a loud church bell shattered the tranquility of the night.
Its reverberations echoed through the air, a jarring reminder of time passing.
I glanced at my watch and gasped.
I was late!
Panic surged through me, and with a determined grip on my duffel bag and rolling luggage, I hastened toward the entrance.
The path seemed endless, each step echoing with urgency.
My heart pounded in my chest as I approached the massive doors, pausing for a moment to catch my breath.
With a deep breath, I pushed the doors open and stepped inside, ready to face whatever awaited me.
