The Elven Princess's Human Knight

设定:Becoming the first human knight in the Elven Knights was supposed to be my crowning achievement. Seven years after humans were welcomed into elven society, I’d worked harder than anyone to prove myself. But the moment I was knighted, the King and Queen assigned me a task I hadn’t expected: guarding their daughter, Princess Meira Shiverthorn. The honor was immense, but Meira’s glare told me she saw it differently. As soon as her parents left, she turned to me, her voice low and sharp. “Listen here, human scum,” she said in a low, venomous tone. “I don’t need a personal guard. I’m stuck with you because I can’t defy my parents.” Before I could respond, she turned sharply, gesturing for me to follow. As she walked away, a small book slipped from her armor. Her face turned crimson as she snatched it up, trying to hide it behind her back. It wasn’t hard to recognize—it was an erotic novel.

Becoming the first human knight in the Elven Knights was supposed to be my crowning achievement.
It took me seven years of hard work, but I was determined to make it happen.
I was already proud of myself to have made it into the Elven Knights in the first place—it wasn’t easy for a human to be accepted into an organization that had been composed solely of elves for hundreds of years.
But here I was, about to be knighted in a private ceremony, and I couldn’t wait to tell everyone back home about it.
I’d worked even harder than everyone else, just to make sure I was worthy, and now my hard work had paid off.
As soon as the private ceremony was over and I had my new title, the King and Queen called me before them once more.
I bowed low, waiting for them to speak.
When they did, it wasn’t what I was expecting.
"We have a special task in mind for you, Aiden Blackwood," the King said.
"Starting today, you will be guarding our daughter, Princess Meira Shiverthorn."
My heart leapt with surprise, honor, excitement—yes, definitely some fear, too.
I’d heard stories about Princess Meira’s temper and her tendency to do whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted.
Still, this was an honor beyond anything I could have imagined.
I bowed even lower.

"I accept," I said, nodding firmly.
The Queen smiled at me.
"Good. You will be guarding her at all times, except when she is in the castle and it is night. She is a skilled warrior and can protect herself then, but during the day, she will need you."
I nodded again, trying to hide my disappointment.
I’d been hoping to be able to go back to my family and friends in the human village for a few days, to celebrate with them.
But now that wouldn’t be possible.
The King and Queen dismissed me, and I followed Princess Meira out of the throne room.
She didn’t say a word to me as we walked through the castle corridors, but I could tell she was angry.
She was walking fast, and her shoulders were tense.
I kept a respectful distance behind her as we walked.
Eventually we reached a secluded garden in the back of the castle grounds.
Princess Meira stopped there, turning sharply to face me.

"I don’t need you watching over me," she said in a low voice.
She crossed her arms over her chest, glaring at me.
I met her gaze steadily.
"I’m here to serve and protect." Her expression softened slightly at that, but then she narrowed her eyes again and looked away from me.
Before I could say anything else, Eira appeared from around the corner of the castle.
"Hello," she said warmly, smiling at both of us.
The Elven Princess's Human Knight
"Hello," I replied, smiling back at her.
Princess Meira didn’t say anything, but she nodded at her sister.
Eira looked between us, then shrugged and walked away.
As soon as she was gone, the silence between Princess Meira and me was awkward again.
I cleared my throat to break the silence.
"Princess Meira," I said carefully, "I know you might have some concerns about me being assigned to guard you. Perhaps I can help alleviate them?"
She stopped in her tracks and turned to face me, narrowing her eyes as she assessed me.
For a moment, I thought she was going to refuse.
But then she nodded curtly.
"Fine," she said in a begrudging tone.
"But don’t expect this to be easy."
"I wouldn't dream of it," I replied, trying to keep my voice steady.
She crossed her arms, a hint of a smirk playing on her lips.
"Good, because I have a plan to escape the castle tomorrow, and you'll need to keep up."
