I was walking through the forest, looking for a good spot to climb.
I had been walking for a while and was getting a bit hungry, so I decided to take a short break and eat some of my snacks.
I sat down at the base of a large tree and began to unwrap my sandwich.
As I was eating, I noticed something strange behind a bush to my left.
I got up and walked over to see what it was.
I reached down and lifted up a rock that was hiding the entrance to a small cave.
"Wow," I said aloud to myself.
I had never seen a cave before, so I was excited to check it out.
I reached into my backpack and pulled out my flashlight and began to make my way inside.
The cave was dark and musty, but it was also kind of cool.
I had never seen anything like it before.
As I made my way deeper into the cave, I stumbled upon a small crystal nestled in the rock.
It glowed brightly as I reached down to touch it.
Suddenly, the air around me began to swirl and the walls of the cave began to shake.
I heard a loud rumbling sound that grew louder as it approached me.
The Dragon Prophecy
I stumbled backward, tripping over my own feet.
My fingers were still wrapped around the crystal, and I could feel its warmth spreading up my arm like hot water.
The rumbling grew louder and closer, and I could feel the ground shaking beneath my feet.
Loose pebbles scattered across the ground at my feet, and I could hear the sound of rocks falling from the ceiling of the cave.
I shone my flashlight in the direction of the sound, but I couldn't see anything.
The beam of light only went so far before it was swallowed up by the darkness.
But then, just as suddenly as it had started, everything stopped.
The rumbling ceased, and the ground stopped shaking.
The air was quiet once again, and the only sound was the soft hum of my flashlight.
I stood there for a moment, waiting to see if anything else would happen.
The Dragon Prophecy
But nothing did. I took a deep breath and began to make my way back through the cave.
As I walked, I noticed that the walls of the cave seemed to be getting closer together.
The air felt thick and heavy, and I could feel a strange energy pulsing through the rock around me.
I quickened my pace, anxious to get out of the cave as soon as possible.
But just as I was about to reach the entrance, I heard another loud rumbling sound behind me.
I spun around, shining my flashlight in its direction.
This time, I could see something moving in the distance.
The tunnel was widening out ahead of me, and something massive was moving through it.
As it drew closer, I could see that it was some kind of creature - its scales reflecting purple and gold in my flashlight beam.
My heart pounded in my chest as I realized that this creature was much larger than anything I had ever seen before. The crystal in my hand began to glow brighter now, matching the pounding of my heart.
The Dragon Prophecy
I pressed myself flat against the wall of the cave as the creature came closer and closer.
It was enormous - easily three times my size - and its scales glistened in my flashlight beam like molten copper.
I froze in place as it moved closer, its scales catching the beam of my flashlight and sending sparkles across the cave walls.
My heart pounded against my chest, but something about those gentle purple and gold patterns kept me from running.
The dragon - I was sure now that's what it was - lowered its head to my level, nostrils flaring as it sniffed the crystal still clutched in my trembling hand.
Steam curled from its nostrils, but the warmth felt oddly comforting.
I took a small step backward, bumping into the rough cave wall.
The Dragon Prophecy
The dragon's eyes, deep amber pools flecked with gold, locked onto mine.
"Do not fear, little one," the dragon rumbled, its voice echoing softly through the cave.
"You hold the heart of my kin, and it has chosen you."
I swallowed hard, my voice barely a whisper as I asked, "Chosen me for what?"
My legs felt weak as I followed the dragon's massive form through the winding tunnel.
The crystal pulsed warmly in my palm, casting a soft blue glow that mixed with my flashlight beam.
Each time we reached a fork in the path, the dragon paused, waiting for me to hold up the crystal.
The gem would glow brighter toward certain passages, like a compass pointing the way.
The dragon's tail swept along behind me, its scales scraping softly against the stone walls.
The Dragon Prophecy
When I stumbled on loose rocks, the dragon's wing stretched out to steady me.
The tunnel finally opened into a vast chamber, and I gasped.
My flashlight beam danced across towering shelves carved into the rock walls.
Ancient scrolls and leather-bound books lined the shelves, while ornate wooden chests overflowed with gold coins and jewels that glittered like stars.
The dragon guided me toward a stone pedestal in the center of the room.
Strange metallic objects and crystalline formations covered its surface, some hovering and spinning slowly in the air.
The Dragon Prophecy
The crystal in my hand pulsed stronger, drawing me toward a circular indent in the pedestal's center.
I hesitated at the pedestal, the crystal's pulsing growing more intense in my palm.
The dragon - Ember, she had called herself - gently bumped her snout against my shoulder, urging me forward.
As I stepped closer, my flashlight beam swept across a narrow crack in the chamber wall.
Strange symbols were carved around the edges of the crack, but they seemed to blend into the stone.
Ember's warm breath stirred my hair as she nudged me again.
The Dragon Prophecy
The crystal jerked in my hand, pulling me toward the crack.
When I pressed my free hand against the cold stone, the symbols began to glow with the same blue light as the crystal.
The chamber trembled as the crack widened, revealing a hidden passage bathed in ethereal light.
I stepped through the opening, Ember following closely behind.
Her massive form barely fit through the narrow passage, and she folded her wings against her back to avoid scraping them against the walls.
The crystal pulsed faster in my palm, casting dancing blue shadows on the smooth surfaces of the tunnel walls.
Unlike the rough cave passages we had traversed earlier, this tunnel had been polished to a glossy sheen.
More glowing symbols were etched into its surface, and I couldn't resist tracing my fingers along them as we walked.
They felt warm beneath my touch, as if they were alive.
The tunnel sloped downward at a gentle angle.
My foot slipped on the incline, but before I could fall, Ember stretched out her wing to steady me.
The crystal's pulsing grew more intense as we descended deeper into the earth, its rhythm matching the quickening beat of my heart. As we rounded a sharp bend in the passage, a faint golden light appeared in the distance.
"Do you feel that?" I asked, my voice barely a whisper over the crystal's hum.
The Dragon Prophecy
Ember nodded, her eyes reflecting the golden light ahead.
"It's the heart of the mountain," she murmured, her voice a mix of awe and urgency.
As we approached the golden light, my legs trembled with each step.
The crystal's pulsing grew more erratic, almost burning in my palm.
Ember's wing brushed against my shoulder, steadying me as we entered a circular chamber bathed in amber light.
Glowing crystals embedded in the walls cast a kaleidoscope of colors across the floor.
I wiped the sweat from my forehead, squinting into the shadows between the crystals.
The air felt thick and heavy, making it hard to breathe.
My heart jumped when I saw movement in the corner of my eye - a dark shape shifting in the shadows.
I gripped the crystal tighter, its blue light clashing with the amber glow.
"Who's there?" I called out, trying to keep my voice steady.
A figure stepped into the light, revealing a hooded silhouette. "I've been waiting for you," the stranger said, their voice echoing with an ancient resonance that sent a shiver down my spine.
The Dragon Prophecy
I stood rooted in place as the hooded figure glided across the crystal-lit chamber floor.
My hand trembled, the crystal's heat now almost unbearable.
Ember's warm breath on my shoulder steadied me slightly.
The figure stopped ten feet away, their dark form silhouetted against the golden glow.
Skeletal hands emerged from the dark sleeves of their robes, slowly lowering the hood that shrouded their face.
As the hood fell away, I gasped at the sight of an ancient, withered visage.
Their eyes burned with a molten gold light that seemed to pierce through me.
The stranger's mouth didn't move, but their voice echoed in my mind, "The crystal has chosen you as its guardian."
I swallowed hard, trying to process their words.
"What does that mean?"
The Dragon Prophecy
I asked, my voice barely a whisper.
The stranger's eyes seemed to glow brighter as they replied, "It means you hold the key to awakening the mountain's true power."
Ember shifted beside me, her voice a low rumble, "But with that power comes a great responsibility, one that could change the fate of our world."
I glanced at Ember, then back at the stranger, my heart pounding, "And if I refuse this responsibility?"
