Things were different here.
Different than they'd been in the old country.
The people were different.
The opportunities were different.
The United States brought possibilities that just weren't possible in old Transylvania.
I knew that making a fortune was possible here.
It was the land of opportunity, and I fully intended on making the most of every move I made.
Everything was new and different.
It was the 20s, and even though the Great Depression was still on the horizon, no one knew about the crash that would happen later.
Right now, money was still exchanging hands at a fast clip, cars were going places they'd never gone before, and the possibilities of the automobile industry were exciting.
Cars were the future, and I was all about being modern and embracing this new way of life.
I stared out at the city as my brother Peter and our cousin Tatiana sat beside me in our small Model T Ford.
We'd come to America together, leaving behind the only life we'd ever known in Transylvania.
It had been hard, but we'd done it, and I fully intended on making a life for myself here.
I wanted everything, and I didn't want to wait.
The Dracula Legacy
I lean back in my leather office chair, studying the eager young man before me.
Thomas fidgets with his tie, his eyes darting around my newly acquired workspace - still sparse, with only a desk, two chairs, and a cabinet holding engineering sketches.
Through the window behind me, the smoke of the factory rises against the Detroit skyline.
I've seen his type before: bright, desperate for a chance, the kind of raw talent that could help build an empire.
He's brought impressive designs for a new carburetor system.
The Dracula Legacy
I stand slowly, letting the moment stretch, watching him squirm.
The power dynamic is clear - he needs this deal more than I do.
I lean forward, studying the detailed sketches spread across my desk.
His designs are good, better than anything currently in production.
Through the window, I can hear the rhythmic clanking from the factory floor below.
My fingers trace the pencil lines of his technical drawings as I consider the profit potential.
This could be my first major acquisition in America.
The Dracula Legacy
Thomas wipes sweat from his brow with a handkerchief, waiting for my verdict.
"Let's make history together."
I lean forward, deliberately prolonging the moment as Thomas shifts his weight from foot to foot.
The carburetor designs hold the promise of fortune, and I can't help but savor his nervous anticipation.
Through the window, I hear the rhythmic clanking of machinery from the factory floor below.
The afternoon sun casts long shadows across the office as I finally rise from my seat, adjusting my suit jacket with measured precision.
Thomas's eyes follow my every movement, his hands clasped tightly behind his back.
The Dracula Legacy
The weight of the moment hangs between us as I step around my desk, studying his reaction.
"Thomas, tell me," I begin, my voice steady, "what drives you to create something like this?"
He hesitates for a moment, then replies, "It's the dream of building something that lasts, something that changes lives."
I nod, sensing the sincerity in his words, and say, "Then let's ensure your dream becomes a reality."
I lean back against the edge of my desk, studying Thomas's face as he processes my words.
His eyes widen with hope, and a slight tremor runs through his hands as he gathers his sketches.
The noise from the factory grows louder as a new shift begins their work below.
I straighten my tie, then push away from the desk with deliberate slowness, letting each step echo in the quiet office.
Thomas clutches his designs closer, still unsure if this is real.
Standing before him, I reach into my jacket pocket and withdraw a contract I had prepared earlier.
With a smooth motion, I place it on the desk between us.
Thomas's eyes flicker between the contract and my face, disbelief mingling with anticipation.
"Is this... is this really happening?" he asks, his voice barely above a whisper.
I nod, offering a reassuring smile, "Sign it, Thomas, and let's start building that legacy together."
