I felt like I was wheezing louder than an old lady with asthma attacking her.
My chest was heaving in and out; I clutched my inhaler tighter, hoping the doctor was coming soon.
I closed my eyes; the cold air blew in from outside through my mohawk.
I could hear the beeping around me; I opened my eyes, blinking hard when I felt the cold air hit my eyes.
I looked around; I saw a bunch of hot blonde doctors and nurses walking around, all wearing glasses.
They looked nerdy but cute.
I wanted to jump on one of them right there in the emergency room.
I heard someone yell my name loudly.
"Here!"
I yelled back, coughing loudly.
A tall doctor came in quickly, holding a black binder.
She had a stethoscope around her neck and glasses on her face.
"Mr. Thompson, I’m Dr. Carter."
She smiled softly.
"What seems to be the problem?"
I took another deep breath; my chest started heaving in and out again.
"I…can’t…breathe…"
I said loudly, wheezing even harder.
She nodded quickly as she grabbed the clipboard from the nurse standing next to her.
The nurse was also hot; she had a soft voice and glasses on her face.
The Doctor's Unexpected Patient
I gasped loudly, feeling my throat tighten even more.
I looked at the inhaler in my hand; my other hand started shaking.
The nurse, Nurse Mitchell, looked at me and walked over to me quickly.
She put her hand on my shoulder gently as she adjusted the oxygen mask over my face.
"Deep breaths, Mark," she said softly.
I could barely hear her over my wheezing.
Dr. Carter nodded to another doctor standing next to her, Dr. Nguyen.
She was looking at my medical history on the clipboard.
"Let’s increase the oxygen flow," Dr. Carter said calmly but urgently.
The Doctor's Unexpected Patient
Dr. Nguyen nodded and turned the knob on the oxygen machine.
I could feel more air blowing in my face.
Dr. Carter looked at me, her glasses catching the light from the fluorescent lights above us.
She leaned over me as she grabbed a syringe from the counter.
She pulled the cap off with her teeth and put it on the counter.
She pushed the plunger down slowly, squirting out a little bit of medication.
"This should help," she said softly but firmly.
She put the needle into my IV and pushed the plunger down quickly.
I felt a cold sensation flow through my arm.
My chest was still heaving in and out; I could hear myself wheezing loudly.
Nurse Mitchell adjusted the oxygen mask again, her touch reassuring.
"Thank you," I managed to say between gasps for air.
The Doctor's Unexpected Patient
Nurse Mitchell’s hand was warm and steady, a small anchor in the storm of my struggle.
I could feel her fingers tighten slightly as my wheezing grew louder.
Dr. Nguyen glanced at the monitors, her brow furrowing as she exchanged a quick look with Dr. Carter.
"We need to intubate," Dr. Carter said decisively, her voice cutting through the chaos.
I saw Nurse Mitchell nod, her grip on my hand unwavering as she prepared the necessary equipment.
The Doctor's Unexpected Patient
The room was suddenly plunged into darkness, the hum of the oxygen machine falling silent.
I gasped for air, my chest tightening even more.
"Stay calm, everyone," Dr. Carter’s voice cut through the darkness, her tone steady and reassuring.
Nurse Mitchell’s grip on my hand tightened, her presence a lifeline in the sudden chaos.
"We need to switch to manual ventilation," Dr. Nguyen’s voice was calm but urgent as she moved around me in the dark.
I could sense the doctors and nurses moving quickly around me, their hands working in the dark.
"Mark, listen to me," Nurse Mitchell's voice was close, her breath warm against my ear.
"We've trained for this; you're in good hands," Dr. Carter reassured, her silhouette a steady presence amidst the shadows.
"Trust us, we'll get you through this," Dr. Nguyen added, her words a promise that cut through my rising panic.
The Doctor's Unexpected Patient
The room was still dark, but I could hear the rustling of drawers and the faint glow of a flashlight being turned on.
Nurse Mitchell’s hand tightened around mine as she moved to grab something.
A beam of light cut through the shadows, illuminating Dr. Carter’s face for a brief moment.
She nodded to Dr. Nguyen as they worked together to set up the manual ventilation equipment.
The flashlight flickered, casting fleeting shadows as the team moved with precision and purpose.
The Doctor's Unexpected Patient
Nurse Mitchell’s hand remained steady on mine as Dr. Nguyen deftly connected the manual ventilator.
I watched her hands move with precision, her glasses catching the faint light.
Dr. Carter held the flashlight steady, ensuring everything was in place.
And then, suddenly, I felt a rush of air fill my lungs, a relief so profound it almost brought tears to my eyes.
My chest rose and fell more easily now, and I managed a shaky smile at Nurse Mitchell.
The Doctor's Unexpected Patient
The manual ventilator's rhythm was steady, each breath a lifeline.
Nurse Mitchell’s hand squeezed mine again, her presence a constant reassurance.
Dr. Carter adjusted the flashlight, its beam steady on Dr. Nguyen’s focused face as she monitored my vitals.
"You’re doing great, Mark," Nurse Mitchell whispered, her voice calm and encouraging.
I nodded slightly, trying to relax into the steady flow of air.
Dr. Nguyen glanced at Dr. Carter, who nodded back, signaling everything was under control.
I watched the doctors and nurses move with precision and purpose, feeling my breathing gradually stabilize.
As the tension eased, Nurse Mitchell released my hand to adjust the oxygen mask securely over my face.
The room was still dark, but I felt a sense of calm wash over me.
